“Lovely experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

We had a Sunday lunch for a large family gathering recently. We were seated in the conservatory and the whole experience was brilliant. Denise was a pleasure to communicate with and had everything organised when we arrived. The food was delicious and the service spo on, Thank you for making it a really special day

Could not have been a better venue for an 80th anniversary dinner party from Reception through to Restaurant Manager and General Manager and attentive and knowledgeable waiter. The food was top quality and I have done much business entertaining in my career. We shall return. Truly GMS

It was our first stay here at the weekend and we loved it. It's in a nice quiet location (the road next to it isn't that busy) surrounded by fields.
The food was amazing, service brilliant in the bar/restaurant and the staff in the accomodation area couldn't have been more freiendly and helpful.
We stayed in one of the hot tub rooms which was nicely decorated and well equipped.
The only thing I would say is that the room description on the website says the hot tubs are totally secluded and this isn't the case. There are bedrooms above the hot tub areas which overlook the hot tub and although there was a small roof area to try and shield you from the rooms above it could do with replacing as it was a bit worn out and see through !
Also, the fencing between each of the rooms and the hot tub areas could do with patching up a bit so it is totally secluded like the website descriptions say as opposed to you being able to see what the couple are getting up to next door ! Sort out the hot tub shielding and this place is perfect !
Other than sorting that bit out, I would definitely recommend this place for a weekend away.

Room Tip: I would still choose a hot tub room !

Myself and wife stayed here in the bora bora room on a romantic package. We arrived to very friendly and helpful staff and had a lovely afternoon tea before checking in to our room.

On getting to the room we had lovely flowers and bubbly waiting on ice. The room itself is nicely decorated and stylish on the tihiti theme. Only to find outside a fairly old and well used hot tub which seriously needs replacing!!!

One thing I can highly recommend is dinner. We had some amazing fish starters and mains, then they're epic assiette of desserts to share....yum!!!!

During the night it was very muggy and the rooms have no fans or air-con so we had the back doors open. Unfortunatly our hot tub and next doors would not stop making wurring noises all thru the night.... Very annoying + didn't sleep well!

On looking back on what I paid I don't think it was worth £350 for Saturday night. Although I would stay again during the week as the packages mon - thurs are far better value!

Compliments to the chefs and restaurant / reception staff :)

This was a night away with a hot tub, afternoon tea, 3 course evening meal, flowers, champagne, chocolates and breakfast.
Afternoon tea was nice. Then we went to the room, Bird Island. The bath needs replacing the bottom was damaged and had black circles on it. The hot tub was lovely but not as private as I would have liked even with an umbrella over the top. The little planted area behind it had massive thistles in, this hadn't been maintained in a while. The evening meal was lovely and the service was great. Although we were able to hear an entire conversation about someone making their parents homeless so they could get a bigger house, nice!
Went back to the room and were subjected to water torture throughout the night with the shower dripping constantly, we put a towel in the bath to try and muffle the sound, then my swimming costume over the shower head, this worked long enough to get to sleep but the dripping noise soon came back. Breakfast was ok. We reported the dripping shower to reception upon checkout to be told they would let the plumber know the next day. Great, but not very helpful to me. Later we were phoned and accused of taking the key, which we hadn't.
For £350 for this 1 night package I expected a little higher in standards and customer service.

I have not been to the crab for nearly two years now but if anything the place has got even better. Charming, attentive staff, great surroundings, luxurious rooms and what a great restaurant. Go there - you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Each room is different - keep going back to collect a full set :)

Well the other day and came upon this Hotel near Chieveley in Berkshire.

The Crab has excellent accomodation with a charming restaurant serving first class food at sensible prices if you consider the quality offered. If you are looking for a secluded hotel for a quiet weekend in the country which offer everything except a leisure complex then this is the one for you.

Don't hesitate just pick up the phone and make your reservation - you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent, but if you are disabled book a ground floor room.
