My wife and I just spent a couple of nights at Darven Cottage, mainly as a result of the reviews here on tripadvisor. We were not disappointed. The simple things are done right and done right consistently. From first arriving to driving away we were made to feel welcome, comfortable and relaxed. Nothing was too much trouble and nor were we made to feel "waited on". It was like visiting friends. David's Goan chicken curry is a real treat but then he is a bit of a closet chef and our plans to eat out on the second night were quickly changed. Congratulations on a lovely home and thank you for sharing it in such an unassuming and friendly manner. One negative though, we expect a Cumbrian flag in the collection for our next visit!!

We stayed for 3 nights with David and Claire and had a fabulous time. Darven Cottage is in a stunning location and David and Claire are lovely hosts. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay and both dinner and breakfast were top class. David only too happy to cater for our individual dietary needs. We were made to feel very welcome. Rooms were comfortable, spacious and well-equipped.

Room Tip: The double room has a gorgeous view over Sannox Bay.

Approaching Darven Cottage we could see the flag of our country....it made us feel so welcome!
And we felt welcome during our stay, it was as if we were part of the family. What a great place to stay, our room, the bathroom, the garden, the views, it was perfect. We booked a dinner for the first night, but decided to have dinner again with David on our second night. It was also very nice to share our choice of music. We were very sad to leave and will be back as soon as possible! On Arran there are lots of beautiful walks and mountains to climb!

It was year year we stayed at Darven cottage. Two adults and two springers. The owner could not have made us feel more at home. All the benefits of self catering (free use of the house) but with your beds made! Great location. Clean rooms etc. Outstanding value.

I booked to go back to Arran as a birthday treat for my wife as we have stayed before. We were met as old friends rather than guests by David our host. The room was immaculate and the bathroom fantastic with shower and relaxing bath. The double room has lovely views to wake up to. Having booked for a meal the first night we quickly decided to stay for dinner each night and were really pleased with our decision. The evening meals are delicious and the breakfasts excellent with meat delivered direct from the butchers to the door! On my wife's birthday night, David suggested a fantastic local hotel for a meal and this insider knowledge was much appreciated as it was lovely. Would highly recommend going to the beach in the morning, which is right out the back gate to watch the sunrise as it is spectacular and the dogs are a welcome addition. We borrowed the dogs to walk the costal path as we were keen to experience Darven at another time of the year and the bracing wind on the beach was fantastic as was the snow on the mountain tops. We went on a night excursion with David as our guide to look for the Aurora Borealis (northern lights) but unfortunately the cloud was low that night so only saw a few flashes. That is the extra mile our host goes to make your stay memorable, comfortable and enjoyable. Better than any five star hotel I have stayed at.

Very restful stay, the beach outside is fantastic for walking, the coastal trail ideal for running. David and Claire, the owners, and their canine companions made us feel really at home and cooked delicious breakfast, black pudding a real highlight! When we visited in October, in the nippy evenings, the woodburning stove was lovely. Thanks!
