“Does it in old Style and comfort!”
Reviewed May 24, 2011

Upon arrival Christine who runs the B&B part of the house(It is a private house) Made us very welcome, this after booking less than a week before. We were also assigned to the room with a walk in shower for my disabled wife. Christine very kindly took our luggage which meant I could help my wife up the short flight of stairs to our room, the old nursery. The bed was very large and comfy with crisp clean sheets, and the bathroom was very easy to use for my wife. In all a very Comfortable room.
The breakfast is taken in the oldest(12th century) part of the manor where you are served a traditional english or continental breakfast, what a Stylish setting.
It is set in large gardens and you are free to roam around at your convenience. Christine also seems to look after the gardens, keeping them very tidy.
To sum up if you are in Benson or it's surrounding area you will not go wrong with this "olde world" country manor.

Room Tip: Ask for the Old Nursery on booking.

This beautiful old manor house is something to behold. Dating back 100's of years it is full of character. The only noise are the ducks & birds, the rooms are all different with features according the period they were built. I stayed in the bule room - the electricity is powered by the owners waterwheel. Breakfast is a medieval affair - with the hens just outside laying the eggs almost as you order them! What a deightful, wonderfull weekend we spent there. I will be oing back againand again. value for money is excelletn. Thank you for making out weekend away so special. Libby Hannelle

We were really impressed with the manor and its authenticity. Our room (former nursery)was well equipped and spacious. The host was very welcoming and our (organic) breakfast was of a high quality. The beautiful garden invites exploration.

Christine made us most welcome in her delightful old manor house. The Blue room was beautiful and serene with views over the water garden. For breakfast there was delicious local organic bacon and eggs after a choice of cereals and fruits. Anything we needed was quickly provided - umbrella, hairdryer, etc. Lovely countryside and lots to do in the area.

Having just returned from a 3-week trip around the south of England, this B&B was one of the highlights of our stay. Situated conveniently close to Oxford,we arrived in time for the Henley Regatta & found this a welcome respite from the heat & crowds. The manor has parts dating back to the 12th century & the hosts,Chris & Francis, are delightful. He is equally adept at discussing physics or the installing of a genuine water wheel which he had just done on the property. Our bedroom was comfortable w/ the most modern shower we encountered in Britain & the Christine-cooked breakfast kept us going all day w/o a break for lunch. The dining room was adorned w/ 18th century furniture & we felt that we had stumbled into a Jane Austen novel.
We found the review by Squidilina confusing as our experience was the complete opposite--perhaps too much NY attitude! But for 70 pounds we found the manor a great value, good fun,well-located & worth a return trip.

This was the first time that we had left our two and a half year old daughter with relatives and were feeling anxious when we arrived. The house is magnificent, full of period features and the dining room and adjacent room have to be seen to be believed! There is also a new build cloisters that is an ecologically friendly build but bagged by Christine's son! Fair enough I suppose when you consider that he both designed and built it along with the befuddled man mentioned in a previous review (what was that woman on??!!) I was welcomed by Christine's husband and no i didn't catch his name either but he was charm personified. The bedroom that we had was the cream one which is large and spotlessly clean and very warm. I was meeting my wife at a local pub for dinner which involved a twenty minute walk down dark country lanes. Christine had supplied both a rechargable torch and a high vis jacket for this very purpose (how thoughtful). I thought that this was a lovely touch and came to really appreciate it as I set off to the pub.
Breakfast in the morning was delicious organic food and Christine made us feel most welcome. If you're looking for a bed and breakfast with style, class and the very warmest of welcomes look no further than Fyfield Manor.

Huge rooms, tastefully and appropriately furnished, alongside good views, and a friendly but not fawning greeting makes Fyfield Manor worth a stay. There's plenty of useful local infomation provided and Chris has been able to supply more during the various stays made by this writer throughout January. The local village happened to record the coldest temperature in England one night of the stay - the room was warm as toast, albeit the stone dining room required me to wear a sweater in the morning - a small price to pay.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
12th century manor countryside guest house situated in the village of Benson. It has recently been restored and refurbished and now offers very comfortable hotel-equivalent accommodation in a building with features which span 7 centuries, many of which have been hidden for over 250 years. Fyfield offers a friendly and personal service without being intrusive. We offer a good selection of organic and healthy options for breakfast but still maintain the traditional English breakfast. The 3 rooms are very individual in their character and furnishings but all have either king or super king beds, are large and bright and have all comforts. There are 3 local pubs within walking distance and several gourmet pubs and restaurants within a short drive. A regular bus goes directly to Oxford and Cholsey train station is within 3 miles. ... more   less
