“Graceful and elegant reminder of the past”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2014

Visited the Malacanang of the North as part of my Laoag and Environs Tricycle Tour. The palatial residence is situated on an elevation beside Lake Paoay. I entered it after a short walk through verdant gardens. There was a lot of finely carved woodwork, both architectural and on the furniture. The interior was very cool and refreshing. There were displays inside harking back to the glory days of the Marcoses. Particularly stunning were official portraits of both former President Marcos and his wife Imelda - they were done in a style that suits European royalty, complete with sashes and decorations.

On the second floor were more displays - old video cameras, various pots, odds and ends, but the greatest was the view over the manicured gardens to Paoay Lake - very scenic!

“Turn back in time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2014

I have seen this place when I was a kid and went back again when we were scouting on a place for wedding reception. I was shocked that everything is still intact from before and I think they added some spaces for new attractions but still haven't seen it. Inside are rooms used by the late President Marcos and his family. Although do not expect a grand mansion since there were only few things left from their time since it was said before that during the EDSA Revolution and the Marcoses left the country, the place was ransacked by the people. I only hope that the government could fix the place up especially the road going there since the road is so rough and there are no streetlights.

“Include in your list”

It's not what I have imagined it to be. By today's standard, the place is pretty decent. Once inside, you wouldn't want to leave. The place is so refreshing and the view is great because it is facing Paoay lake. The place also brings you back in time because of the old pieces of furnitures and pictures/photos (of great leaders who have visited the country or have met the first family) found inside.
