“Well worth visiting when in Illocos!”

Malacanang Of The North
Reviewed January 29, 2014

Malacañang of the North or Malacanang ti Amianan as its known in Ilocano is located in the town of Paoay and on the "Must See" list when visiting the northern province of Ilocos Norte. Its design is typical Illonocano.

This property is located on 5-hectares with fantastic views of Paoay Lake, and was the residence of late president Ferdinand Marcos and his family when they were in the north. Visitors to this home included both local and foreign guests .

After Marcos death the palace transformed into a museum of the late president’s memorabilia. I enjoyed walking through this place and one can have some sort of idea of the opulant lifestyle experienced by President Marcos.

The property is now under the care of the Department of Tourism with an entrance fee of 20 pesos for adults and 10 pesos for children. It is open from 9am-11:30am and 1pm-4:30pm daily except on Mondays.

No entrance fee if your not going inside the house. We went here just outside the house to take some photos. Old house..

No one should miss this place when you are in Ilocos Norte. It is a reminder of a regime that ruled the Philippines with an iron fist. I was already in Ilocos, so I decided to see the place. And again, riding a motorbike, off I went to Paoay on a cold early morning breeze. The palace or was it a big big house was maintained. Not really that well maintained but the inside was clean. It was made mostly of wood, cut from narra trees. What do you expect, you are in power, you can do anything. Hallways, rooms and dining area are huge. The view on the veranda facing Paoay lake was good. Serene and beautiful. For me, building such a placecis a waste of money. At least there is a reminder of how the Marcos regime ruled during their time..

Overall, it was really okay. The architecture was beautiful (it was really made to be airy and cool), and the displays were authentic and interactive. However, I guess I was expecting more things to be on display, as well as a more information (I didn't know the relevance of some of the displays I was looking at).

There is also a mini resto on the first floor and bathrooms, and entrance fee is Php 30, so I think I got what I paid for. If you want to see more Marcos memorabilia though, I think you may be better off going to the Marcos Musuem instead.

This was built by the former president Ferdinand Marcos as his official resident in Ilocos Norte. Today it is converted into a museum wherein several of his memorabilias and his family is displayed. Overlooking from the palace is the Paoay lake. It has it's dining room which is large enough to host several dozens of people, living areas, bed rooms, ball room and large balcony at the second floor.
