You won't find the typical resort or similar amenities, but you will be hard pressed to find people more friendly than Juanita and Ma Ruby. I was a bit disappointed with some of the comforts of the room, but the receptive-ness, friendliness and willingness to help in any way they can made the stay very homely and intimate.

We had the suite which included a kitchen and a fridge, very convenient when you can stock up on drinks from the town convenience store to help with the summer heat. What we found disappointing was the water pressure and the dated and worn out furniture that previous posts mentioned, but there was also an ant problem, as they streamed in through the bathroom window and created quite a scene. The towels and bed sheets seemed like they’d gone awhile without any use and thus never changed.

You probably won't find a more economical lodging choice on the very expensive Harbour Island, but if you don't mind some shortcomings, their hospitality will make your stay a very pleasant one.

If you want an authentic Bahamian experience, this is the place for you. We stayed at Tingum Village and had a wonderful time. The staff was so friendly and personable. We enjoyed getting to know the legendary Ma Ruby and her family. Our room was very quiet and cozy. It was also amazingly clean. We returned from the beach and tracked sand throughout the room. Everyday the cleaning staff made sure our room was fresh and our floors were clean. The only problem we encountered was with the water. The water pressure is low and one night we didn't have any water. I think this sort of thing tends to be a problem in the Bahamas where fresh water is scarce. I still had a great time and loved the laidback attitude. I recommend it for people who don't want a cookie cutter experience. If you want to experience the local flavor of Harbour Island, I suggest you stay with Ma Ruby.

I just spent a week in Harbour Island staying at Tingum Village Hotel. I was one of a party of nine: two sets of parents, four children and one grandparent. We rented the cottage and a room. Overall, our stay was delightful and a real bargain, especially given that it was high season.

As other reviewers have emphasized, the place is a local institution, run by the welcoming, capable Juanita, daughter of Ma Ruby (the owner).

The location is excellent - a short walk from downtown in the the midst of a tropical grove that provides nice shade and a lovely setting, and less than a five minute walk from the famed pink sands beach.

There is also a nice bar and restaurant, and we agreed that the cheeseburgers were as good as advertised. We also loved the fish, rice & peas.

The facilities are basic- this is simple, low key living, not a resort. The furnishings are a bit dated and the plumbing is a challenge -- the water pressure was mediocre, at best, and hot water was only intermitently available. That said, it was a comfortable place, and we successfully prepared several lively and lovely family meals, including excellent fresh tuna from the fish market across from the main boat dock.

In short, if you are not too picky about your amenities, Tingum Village offers wonderful hospitality and a memorable stay.

I cannot believe the other reviews. Our experience was TERRIBLE. The room was dirty, lots of hairs in the bathtub, no water pressure, AND the owner organized a wedding in front of our room which was filled with unbearable noise all day long (actually you could hear the music all over the island). Ma Ruby was very rude too.
