“Simply beautiful gardens in a fabulous setting”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Andromeda Gardens are a delight. The variety of the tropical trees and plants is enormous with excellent signposting. The location is fabulous, overlooking Bathsheba on the East Coast, with wonderful views. I only had a few hours to spend there but could easily have spent the whole day there. I will be back.

“magnificent”
Reviewed November 15, 2013

We visited Bethsheba by bus, had a beer and watched the surfers, and then walked up a very steep hill in probably 30 degrees of relentness sun, but what a find at the end of it. With hindsight, we could have got off the bus at Andromeda and then walked down to the beach later. However, I love gardening and this was more than worth that climb. It's situated on the side of a hill so you have to be relatively fit to enjoy the visit but there are plenty of seats along the way to sit and admire the incredible plants, waterfalls and ponds. Saw a toad in one of the ponds which would have covered a dinner plate. Also saw humming birds drinking from flowers. We were just too late in the year to enjoy the hibiscus in all their glory but there were still a few beautiful flowers to enjoy. You are given two very informative printed guides which certainly added to the enjoyment. So many different species of trees to admire and I would definitely visit these gardens again if I was in Barbados at a different time of the year. I usually stay away from gift shops but I still regret not buying one of the paintings by Jon Stewart which totally depict Barbados. We did the gardens, both ways, as shown by the guides so saw some parts twice and it would not have taken more than 2 hours but then had a drink in the cafe which extended our visit to over 2 hours

“A lovely place to spend the morning”
Reviewed November 6, 2013

our visit was just after a rain storm so the paths were a little bit slippy, but as long as you were thoughtful of this our morning was great. The staff were very friendly and one of the gardeners found us half way round and spent the next 1/2 hour explaining to us all the different plants, their characteristics and uses. Very informative, friendly and wonderful place.

must visit.

“Beautiful experience”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

This is a great place to visit on Barbados especially if you have a car. Bring your National Trust card if you are a member for a discount. Lovely planting and good for bird watching. Some shade but it can be hot but they have a nice little café to rehydrate

“A once beautiful garden”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

You can still see the bones of what was once a great garden by Barbadian gardening maven Iris Bannochie. There are still many wonderful plants, but the sense of an evolving, living garden guided by a singular vision is gone. I left feeling a bit sad, almost like visiting a mausoleum. If it's a living, breathing, spectacular garden that you want , it's Hunte's Gardens. Worth a trip for sure.
