The dining and kitchen areas were adequate. For the I,bed of people USO them, though, bathroom facilities were small and not as clean as they could be. We arrived late to find that we had been given one room to share instead of the two that we had booked some months before hand. Our room was off the kitchen area and obviously was a garage adjoining the main house at some stage. The room smelt of mould and there was mould on the ceiling. We had no choice but to stay as we arrived late in mid- summer and accommodation in the town was fully booked.

On a positive note, though, our money was refunded when we complained about the room. Hopefully they have rectified the mould situation by now.

I stayed here with a friend in early August for 1 night - it was extremely full and we had to share a double room but we didn't mind, it was the only room left in the area for that night! The owner was very helpful and friendly on the phone arranging it all.

The room itself was clean but very small, only just big enough for the bed, but then we only needed a place to sleep. Communal bathroom facilities were clean enough, not the best but by far not the worst I have ever encountered in a hostel.

What really made this place was it's atmosphere, big dining table where everyone sat around and chatted, the staff were really friendly and helpful. It's in a good location too, within walking distance of Urquhart Castle, worth taking a wander up there after dark to see it all lit up.

All in all, decent and clean and about right for what we paid, would stay here again.

I really enjoyed my time there. Everything was clean and nice, staff was kind and people were friendly. The surroundings of the accommodation is absolutely beautiful becouse Backpackers lays right next to the Loch Ness.

due to financial constrains my partner and I were forced to stay here for one night. As you walk in the surroundings seem really nice and welcoming, with a good sized lounge, kitchen and a massive dining area. However when you view the rooms you realise that space is not carried out in the rest of the building. My partner, who is quite tall, and I were shown to a private room with not enough space to store all our luggage, which meant we were tripping over each other. We had to move the bed away from the wall and pretty much rearrange the box room in order for him to fit. Then there is the bathroom area. This is located to the side of the stairs, on the ground floor. the toilet cubicles are not separate little rooms but cheap cubicles open at the bottom and the top so everyone else can hear you. There is very little ventilation in the entire bathroom area so all smells eventually waft their way up the stairs and into the rooms which can be most unpleasant. The shower cubicles, whilst having a small fold away chair/shelf in them are just disgusting. Hair and muck all over the place. I felt dirtier coming out than i had going in. All in all, not a nice place to stay and it is a good twenty to thirty minute walk from the main town. Next time, finances be damned, i'm staying in a B&B - at least they won't ask you to change the sheets and place them downstairs before you leave.

Room Tip: there are no good rooms

This backpackers hostel in very conveniently situated in a small village on Loch Ness. A cosy hostel with very friendly staff. The rooms were rather small and cramped for 7 guests. Although they had only 2 showers and toilets for all guests, they were clean. A well equipped kitchen and large common area has enough space for everyone to cook and eat. A breakfast of cereal, bread-butter jam, tea/coffee can be bought for a small price. The staff was very friendly and even invited us to join them on a midnight walk to the castle and lake for a dip in the water which I declined as I found the place too cold to walk leave aside take a dip in the lake.Brr!

Me and 5 other friends spent a night there. We booked online a month before for 4 females and 2 males and when we arrived they did not sign for the 2 males. Fortunately the hostel was not busy and they could find a place for them anyway. Me and the other 3 girls where in this room with 3 other girls so 7 people in a really really really small room with a such a small window that during the night we woke up because it was hard to breath. There were only 4 plugs in the room for 7 people and only 3 were working so we had to charge our phones in the common room. The 2 guys were in the same situation and their door could not even be locked. There were 2 toilets and 2 showers that had to be shared among 20 people (females and males together) therefore they were dirty and the showers full of hair! But what I really hate about that was that the night of our arrival we paid 3£ each to have the breakfast the day after. They made us pay the night because in the morning nobody was there. When we went to the kitchen to have our breakfast there was nothing left (and I swear it was 8): no more bread and no more milk. We all paid for something we did not receive and we also tried to call them on the phone to complain and they did no answer....really desrespectful! We paid too much for what we got (20£ each) and I will never ever go there again in my life!

This place could be so much better! We turned up, thankfully dry, because there is no drying room or drying faciilties. The male/female only dorms are about as big as my thumb, cramped with no way on earth you can get bags in there as well as people. The top bunks had no barriers so H&S nightmare! There was a good size facility room but nothing to do. The washroom is shared male/female which is totally unacceptable, the room was damp and smelly. Thankfully it is only a short walk to a couple of good places to eat. I wouldn't return and wouldn't recommend at the moment, but with a bti of work and thought it could probably be ok.

Room Tip: I get the feeling there were better facilities for those not in dorms. Try that.
