Before deciding if you wish to spend time at Las Nubes, you have to ask yourself the question; 'what type of person am I?'

If you are of the ilk that needs your creature comforts, such as air conditioning or wi-fi, or if you are afraid of insects and nature...then this isn't the place for you. You should look at booking a nice generic chain resort instead.

However, when you get home and describe your trip, there's a good chance that your accommodation will receive little more than a side note. At Las Nubes, your accommodation becomes the focal point of your conversation!

Imagine waking up to the sound of the forest, then walking to breakfast with views of mountains to your right, and the ocean to your left. Home cooked meals by a gourmet chef await you morning and night, and in between, a swimming pool with views that take at least two glances to believe. Enjoy cocktails whilst watching the sun set over the Pacific Ocean, as you start to smell dinner being made, before a communal meal where everybody has a story to tell.

Words do not do Las Nubes justice. If you want to totally immerse yourself in Costa Rica, and receive a level of service that makes you feel like one of the family, then book your stay here. We have travelled all over the world, and can honestly say, that the four days we spent here, rank as some of the best we have enjoyed.

The worst part of our stay at Las Nubes, was the fact we had to leave Filipe and Augustine behind. We would have happily spent many more days here, enjoying the wonderful food, great conversations, and new friendships.

Pros:

- the views are breathtaking, on all sides of the property.
- service from Phillipe and Augustine is at a level, you will probably not experience again.
- the quiet peace you find, is like nothing you have felt before.
- falling asleep to the sounds of the jungle, in a place where you don't need doors, is pretty special.
- a 25 minute drive and you are on the beach, 45 minutes to Manuel Antonio national park.
- you will be talking about this place for a very long time!

Cons:

- lots of insects, but if you leave them alone, they will pay little attention to you.
- the road up to the property is an adventure in itself, you need a 4X4 and a little courage.
- no air conditioning, can make it warm in the night, but the breeze from the ocean helps.

We stayed in this hotel last January, the nights before New Years.
Pros:
- The design is lovely, the shower works great, the beds are comfortable
- Breakfast was amazing. Dinner was also outstanding, and fairly priced
- We saw a lot of animals in our stay. Bright colored frogs, a slug in the middle of the road, a family of Tucans that we watched over every breakfast on a near by tree
- The views from the balconies are simply ridiculous. Best breakfast views and best sunsets ever
- The gardens are gorgeous and well kept
- The best of the place is the owner, a friendly and well educated Belgian.

Cons:
- It can get very humid and noisy at night. The rooms are not completely closed and do not have aircon (it's an eco hotel, remember).

Tips:
- Don't miss the dinners
- Go to reserva Baru, playa matapalo, manuel antonio during the day
- rent a nice 4x4 if you plan on getting up there.

We were a group of 12 and had a most wonderful stay at Las Nubes earlier this month (July 2013). Las Nubes Resort is everything but the ordinary. The breathtaking views, the stunning lodges and architecture, the gorgeous setting, Filip's charming and warm hospitality, his dedicated and helpful staff and his excellent cooking skills make Las Nubes a place to visit for travelers loving nature and in search for elegant small-scaled unique atmospheres.

We had a wonderful experience that began right from the start when we drove up the mountainous terrain to get to Las Nubes - it was such an exciting adventure to reach the top and once we arrived, we were welcomed with open arms from Filip, the friendly owner, who made us feel right at home and always made sure that we were well looked after.

We were spoilt by Filip's cooking, who caters to any dietary requirements and special requests - from the gourmet breakfasts to the absolutely scrumptious roast chicken and ossobucco for dinner. Delicious!

The resort strategically accommodates a maximum of 16 guests, which we were grateful for as we were able to have a relaxing and peaceful getaway to allow us to reconnect with ourselves, which was what we were looking forward to after the hustle and bustle of being in San Jose (and coming from London!). Pure bliss!

Nothing beats waking up and chilling with a good book before heading for a quick dip in the infinity pool, where we were able to soak in the fantastic view and do some birdwatching! Having a stroll around the property, we were able to appreciate how sustainable Las Nubes is, which is truly amazing!

Good food, awesome views, great atmosphere and wonderful host - what more could we ask for on a relaxing holiday? Words cannot describe the magnificence of the place, you have to see it to believe that it is a piece of heaven on earth.

Pura Vida (:
