“Amazing place to stay”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

Driving in to the front of the chateau is a jaw-dropping experience! This is a beautiful building both inside and out and located in an extremely quiet village which seems to be in the middle of nowhere but is in fact about 1 mile from the route nationale. Our welcome was not overly warm and madame Daille chooses not to speak English, however we were shown to a truly lovely and enormous room overlooking the orchard. The room had a double bed and two single beds so is perfect for a family with a large bathroom, however only a bath with shower attachment. The decor is exactly what you would expect from a French chateau - floor to ceiling windows, wooden floorboards, open fireplace, large mirrors and oodles of charm. We were the only guests in the chateau and it really felt as though we had the place to ourselves. Breakfast was served in a large wood panelled room downstairs and was simple - croissants, bread, jam, apple juice and coffee. Overall, a lovely, romantic place to stay, extremely good value for money, perhaps just lacking a little warmth from the hostess.

Room Tip: All the rooms are named after apples grown in the orchard. Ask for Pink Lady - it's the largest...

We enjoyed our stay at the Chateau de Saulty, it is a very impressive building and was very good value. The rooms were large and if you let the water run a little there was lots of hot water. The antique furniture was lovely and quaint. The breakfast was a perfect French breakfast with croissants, bread, good coffee, home made jam and home made apple juice.
It is not a 5* hotel but if you want a good genuine B&B this is a great place to stay

Saulty is a tiny hamlet just north of the Arras-Doullens road. The chateau is the only such building in the area, so is easy to find. The gardens and grounds are lovely and the family own 18 hectares of orchards, which offer lovely, relaxed walks. And the horse (not surprisingly) loves apples!
The building is old-fashioned inside, with lots of wood panelling and an impressive staircase. The room we had (overlooking the grounds away from the road) was large, with a double, two singles and a cot - so good for families. Plenty of hot water and a comfortable bed made for a pleasant stay. Breakfast was basic continental, but the apple juice and jams made from the chateau fruit were gorgeous. Madame was very friendly and helpful, including a good recommendation for a restaurant in Doullens (Le Dent de Loup).
All in all, a very pleasant stay in a quiet, unassuming B&B - and the launch of a giant hot air balloon on our arrival added interest. Recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the rear (not the road).

We stayed here on our way down to Paris. Good distance from euro tunnel and very convenient when we had been to see Vimy ridge that day. Set in a quiet French village, which was easy to find with sat nav! Very impressive looking house, and very large. It must be hard to maintain. Don't be afraid to knock on the old middle doors (around the back) when you arrive. This is the entrance hall! We were made to feel very welcome by Madam Dalle, who showed us straight to our room. This was as shown in the photographs on their website, but the bathroom was a bit dated. Breakfast was a traditional French one. Croissant with homemade local jam (which you can buy from the chateau) and apple juice made from the apples from the chateau's orchard. This you can also buy to take home. We also had a choice of cereal, and coffee, tea or hot chocolate. The price of the room was also less than we were expecting to pay, which was a lovely surprise.

The chateau is what you'd expect of an old building but whilst not in a bad condition, certain things could do with improving upon.
The room we stayed in had the en suite and toilet added but without keeping to the older details of the room. In fact I'd say certain aspects could do with a bit of upkeep such as a broken door handle and another that's nearly joining it.
We did get to see inside the other rooms and think they seem to have been of a better standard so while my review only scores average, I think staying in one of the other rooms would have been a better experience.
Breakfast was very good and the family running it were most pleasant. The grounds were nicely kept.
Would I return? Yes but to stay in one of the other rooms!

Stayed 2 nights in this very charming, unassuming Chateau. To walk outside before Breakfast and enjoy the graciousness of the grounds and the building makes this place somewhere to remember !
Breakfast was good, the 'Chambres' very adequate, spacious and historical.
Madame is very pleasant and helpful and speaks a modicum of English.
You can't beat staying in a Chateau like this for good value B&B accommodation oozing with character.
