My husband and I stay in this hotel at least twice a year - we love it! We used to live in the village and we have to stop ourselves staying here every holiday. The staff are exceptional, the hotel manager is constantly in evidence, the food fantastic (especially the breakfast) and the general ambience of the hotel is comfortable country house.
Dirleton itself is an historic village with 16th century castle open to the publlic, there are many walks from the village - many to the beaches of Yellowcraig and Gullane.
North Berwick is the nearest town, again with lovely beaches and fanatastic golf courses.
There is also a station at North Berwick and nearby Drem with frequent trains into Edinburgh.
The hotel has recently had 4 garden rooms added and a function room ( it is and always has been a popular location for weddings). The garden rooms have patio access to a small garden with garden furniture for each room. There is also a small inner courtyard with tables and chairs for the use of other guests.
Everything price wise is very reasonable. The bistro restaurant has a delightful menu with early bird options and the Library ( the high spend alternative) often has special deals.
The main room, often ablaze with a huge log fire is very relaxing. There are papers to read for those without books ( although there are books to borrow) and ... Im going to stop my review now as I think we may never be able to get a room again!!!

We have just returned from a weekend at the Open Arms where we stayed to attend a wedding. We were a group of 9.

Due to hours of delays due to the snow we were received at midnight by the owner despite the reception closing an hour or so beforehand.

The rooms were immaculately clean and well equipped with powerful showers and some basic refreshments of tea, coffee, water etc.

The breakfast was exceptionally good with a great choice although sadly we were allured by the full fry up on both days and didn't try some of the other options which included kippers and smoked haddock.

Overall the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and we had a really comfortable stay.

I don't envisage myself travelling up to this area of the world again but would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone who is.

Our 2 night dinner B&B break at The Open Arms exceeded our expectations and was excellent value for money. The hotel was conveniently situated for Edinburgh, golf courses, bird watching and castles (very interesting and impressive castle in the centre of Dirleton village opposite hotel). The hotel was warm and cosy with a roaring log fire in the sitting room. Spacious and comfortable bedroom with roomy bathroom. All the little extras were in the room and the bath and shower had lots of hot water and excellent pressure, although maybe the towels were a little jaded. Food too was very good, tasty and imaginative. The icing on the cake was the polite and helpful staff, they made us most welcome and even welcomed our (clean & well-behaved) dog!

Dirleton is a small village 3 miles from North Berwick and the site of Dirleton Castle. The Open Arms hotel is across the road from the ruins and is a small independantly run hotel of about 15 rooms. The hotel has a mixture of rooms, some in the original building, some in a new extension. We stayed in one of the new rooms, it was large, comfortable, very clean and had a patio area with outside seating which would have been nice in summer (it was below freezing most of the time!). My wife has stayed in one of the older rooms on a previous trip. The room was not as large, modern or as comfortable.
We had dinner at the hotel. I would recommend this option as there is a shortage of eateries in North Berwick and the food at the Open Arms is excellent - fresh local produce, cooked to order - my fillet of beef was excellent as were our starters and sweets).
Breakfast was also freshly cooked to order. We had the traditional cooked breakfast (huge portion). Pancakes, french toast, kippers, haddock etc are also available.
Service is polite and friendly.
I will definitely be back...
