“Perfect location for Arran ferry, and family friendly too”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here the night before our crossing to Arran. After a long drive with small children it was just perfect - friendly welcome, easy dinner, lovely room with sea view and good value incl breakfast. There was a very clean cot made up for our baby with bedding and room for our toddler's blow up bed. We slept well and it made for a very easy morning having breakfast, then a play in the park opposite, a bit of a walk then catching the ferry 5 mins drive away. Easy parking at the hotel and really fantastic service all round. Food was average but we didn't need much and again the staff were so accommodating with the kids we almost didn't care! Highly recommended.

Excellent dinner. Beautifully presented and reasonably priced. Only fault was we were in the conservatory and although it was a cloudy day the heat was unbearable. There was only one fan and it was to far away to be effective.

I ate in the restaurant at night, nice food, reasonable prices. The staff were very friendly and it was quick service. The room was clean and yummy cookies in a jar for tea and coffee. The tv was tiny but could live with that. Heater/fan provided in room which was good. Would go back, overall a nice stay.

My parents used to take me to this restaurant years ago, and my aunt got married in it a while back, but for the first time in 7 years me and my wife decided to give it a chance and see what it was like for a meal.
Just showed up at 5pm on a Sunday not really fussed if we got a table or not as we were not sure where or what we wanted for a meal.
Got given a lovely table with a nice view in the conservatory section (though weather was not great, still nice to watch the world go by outside) and service was fantastic.
For the meal we went for the Sunday menu which was 2 courses for £9 or 3 for £11.50-ish.
Usually these set menus I am a little skeptical as I feel its just stuff made in bulk to serve all day, or the portions are not all that big.
Pleased to say the food was just as good as I remember it. Ordered a Chicken Tempura Starter, which unlike other restaurants where you only get 2, maybe 3, slices, it was 5 pretty large chucks of chicken we got.
Main course I got the Steak and Links Pie, which was good, if not a little bit to over the top with the gravy, and more like a soup (could really have used more pastry for soaking up the gravy) and my wife had the salmon, which was so large she could not finish the garnishes on the plate.
Desert we both had the Strawberry Sundae, which I think a lot pf people were tempted by as we noticed a couple of gasps from other tables when the waiter served us.
All in all a very enjoyable meal at a great price, super fast and efficient service, with food that is really enjoyable and does not leave you hungry or disappointed.

Try the Lauriston Hotel in Ardrossan for superb food. We have ordered from the dinner and the snack menu and have found it to be superb quality at realistic prices. The friendly staff make it a truly excellent eating experience. The "not quite pre-theatre menu" is also superb.
