Booked at the very last minute to make a holiday out of the trip to Stranraer, had a room overlooking the water. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Would certainly go again.

My husband and I payed for a meal by credit card and were charged £68500 instead of £68. 50. It took a week to obtain a refund and in the meantime the account was frozen. They did not even offer any compensation for the inconvenience caused. We only used the restaurant so cannot comment on the quality of the rooms

If you want a nice quality hotel to get away from it all then this is the place. The hotel overlooks Balcary Bay and is in a very quiet and private location giving access straight onto the beach. There is little else in the very local vicinty and is ideal for a quiet getaway.

We stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis and it was very good indeed.
The food was of a similar quality to the best fine restaurants, perfectly fresh and well prepared with the added benefit of good portions(The cheese board comes with six cheeses). There is also a good choice of wine and spirits.

I would recommend to people wanting a relaxing retreat with good food.

Stunning sea views from our room. Service was excellent, helpful without being obtrusive. Food was very good. The decor was a bit overfussy-our room was very clean and pleasant but could have been decorated in a more subtle and appropriate way. Overall however I would wholeheartedly recommend the hotel and had a very restful break.

Didn't stay at Balcary Bay hotel as we are local to the area but was treating a friend to lunch and after reading reviews thought it would be lovely. What a disappointment! We both ordered the Ploughmans @ £8.95. Where do i start--stale bread, hard boiled egg, Branston pickle and very dodgy looking ham-certainly not our idea of a ploughmans! My friend had one mouthful and left the rest. We complained and didn't have to pay for lunch, we only had to pay for the drinks but that wasn't the point. For a hotel which prides itself on the rating of AA 3 stars and Scottish tourist board 4 star, its quite unbelievable that their quality of food can be so bad. Been once but never again
