Clearly the cafe is dividing those that attend. Some clearly having a wonderful meal, some not. I clearly fall in to the latter category.
Initial impressions were very good as the queues outside were huge. Had we wanted a takeaway then no doubt we would have been waiting a considerable time. As it happens I was eating with my family and friends so we "dined" in the cafe. Nothing to write home about and lacked ambience. You choose from the menu and pay at the counter position.
Fish and chips are my staple diet and I have them at least once a week. I have to say having eaten them for almost 40 years, the ones I had here might qualify for the worst ever. The haddock I had was dry as a bone. When I say battered, that's an understatement. The batter itself was rock hard. I was all on to smash it with my fork. I suspect it had been cooked for a while and left heated. The only saving grace were the chips. Not fantastic but edible.
One final point which I found a tad annoying, there was no sauce for the kids unless you paid 30p for a satchet. In most cafes and the such you normally get your condiments free. All in all I will not be rushing back. There were a number of fish restaurants in the locality which I'm sure would offer up a better experience.
