We stayed there with my mum visiting family and the food was great. Nice big breakfast in the morning. Graig and Sue are a lovely couple. Very resonable prices. We want to come back in the summer time with the kids. Also we couldn't fault the rooms. Very comfortable beds.

Visited the Shady Oak one evening and wish we hadnt bothered. In fact, I being unfair, the food and the prices were actually very good, however, the attitude of the landlady was only what can be described as "ignorant".

No hello, place was almost empty and we were shuffled into a far corner from bar as all tables were supposedly reserved, no one else turned up. Half way through food and drinks order at bar (no table service) to have the landlady stop and go and serve a hotel guest. Amazing, we should have walked out and I have no idea why we didnt. There was no table service, had to go to bar for drinks halfway through meal, not asked if everything was ok, not asked afterwards if it was ok. Yep, this place should definitely be the next project for Alex Polizzi!

If you like good pub food with an attitude, this is the place for you! If you are feeling suicidal, definitely stay well away from here.

Excellant food and service second to none. The beers and wine are a compliment to the meal.I had Hobgoblin which was amazing on draft. The pub it's self has a warm welcoming feel along with the staff and owners. One word,GO eat there.

had a terrible meal,i asked for the beef and onion bap with grated cheese, when it came the beef really smelt,i couldnt eat it.i told the waitress and she told the chef [ the owner] and he said it was the cheese, what aload of rubbish, we asked for the bill and they refused to take it off,so we paid and left,i will never go back, the chef must of been able to smell the beef as it had gone off,

I do not mean to offend as i write this but the only problem is the lack of friendliness from the landlady.

The food is of good quality and the prices are reasonable with a lot of choice on the menu.

However everytime i have visited and when speaking to others who visit from time to time, the landlady appears almost put out when visitors walk through the door.

Anyone who can crack a smile from this woman deserves a medal, there is no effort in service and unfortunately this brings the experience down somewhat.

Another problem i find, is that there is no table service for drinks when you eat your meal.
The last time i ate there me and my partner were the only ones in the pub and i had to wait at the bar for quite some time whilst my drinks were poured and my food turned cold.

I would eat here again as the food is fantastic, however i may be too afraid incase the landlady finds out who i am and turns violent!

Not being someone who gets the opportunity to stay way, my husband and I were looking forward to our friends birthday celebration being held at the Shady Oak. We were showed to our room on arrival, and didnt exactly get a warm feeling, hoping things would improve we went down for our friends party. We cannot fault the food at all, very tasty, homemade and large portions, but what we were actually shocked by was the attitude of the landlady, at first we thought it was the stress of coping with such a busy night, but we experienced exactly the same abrupt attitude at breakfast. We were woken up at 9.00am on a Sunday morning to Celine Dion, we laugh about it now but trust me at the time it wasnt funny. Reading previous reviews perhaps the Landlady was simply having a bad couple of days, just a shame we had to experience it.

Room Tip: Ask for a double bed if you want one, as we were put in a twi n
