“First the bad parts!”
Reviewed August 31, 2014

First the bad things- no can't think of any
Now the good things and everything else,
We flew with ba, had worse flights and had better, but the seaplane flight was excellent and an experience. From getting to the terminal and the wait for the seaplane with drinks and cold towels.
The welcome was nice and the introduction to our water villa in the O resort was great with our luggage being delivered about two hours later.
When we go again (easter 2016) we will put our toothbrushes and small change of clothes in our hand luggage.
The villa was everything you would want and more. It was 20 meters from the sea. We stayed in room 290 and as far as we were concerned it was in a perfect location just far enough from the restaurant without being to far and about the same from the main resort area.
The room was cleaned three times a day by a really nice man who could not be faulted in any way.
The food was nice with a lot of variation. Each night was a theme night with a live bar for lunch and dinner. The live bar was manned by a chef called Kiron who always had a smile on his face.
We was served by Ahoo who was very efficient, friendly and attentive.
We snorkelled a lot and saw rays, a shark, a good variety of fish and turtles. Although there was a reef due to the wind at the time my wife gained the confidence for it. My only thought is slight concern is that perhaps a house reef could be built closer to the shore.
I went diving with prodivers and they was extremely professional with some good diving. I saw a manta and more turtles but due to the weather did not see any sharks, but you can't book wildlife to be where you want.
We stayed for for twelve nights and the weather was perfect for eight but we had a tropical storm for three days. With wind and rain. The wind was quite strong on the o resort side but not on the other.
I can honestly say it was the best and most relaxing holiday I have had and would recommend to anyone.
One more thing is that most importantly which goes to show wonderful customer service my wife left her bracelet either in the room or lost it when we was leaving. We emailed the resort and two days later firky got back to us and said they had found it and would be sending it on. This I cannot thank them enough for.
Many thanks for a wonderful holiday and see you again

Room Tip: Take your snorkels for a great time and if you are not confident, you will gain it here.

This is by far the best holiday destination I have visited. But it is a very long way from England. That said I would recommend this beautiful resort with its numerous and very helpful, welcoming and
friendly staff to anyone wanting a relaxing and interesting break. The accommodation, a beachside bungalow was spacious, comfortable and clean, 20 metres from the sea, with large firm beds, the beach was simply lovely, white soft sand, lots of sea creatures to observe, fish, some quite large and brightly coloured everywhere in the water, exotic trees, flowers and shrubs and one can walk right round the island without actually leaving the beach. No mosquitoes! The dining arrangements, self service with a waiter and a designated table were first class, great food, wide variation of dishes and plenty of curries! Lots to do if you want to or just sit on the beach or by the pool. I would not hesitate to recommend this resort to individuals, couples or families for a great holiday. I particularly remember, on our last evening the bar staff giving our 6 year old son, who had spent some time talking to them during our stay, a souvenir of a replica turtle, made of china and asking him if he would come back to the island again to see them the following year. We all had the best holiday ever!

Room Tip: We loved the beach facing bungalow.

We visited the Maldives for the third time on July 28 - August 13th, this time to Kuredu island.

We had just the best time. The island is so well kept, staff are very friendly and there is soooooo much to do.

We went on all of the boat trips the dive centre had to offer. On the full boat day excursion we swam with manta which was such a special, humbling experience. Vessel in the dive centre is such an articulate, knowledgable and passionate guide. We would highly recommend any of the trips on offer!

The food on the island is of a good standard with plenty of choice. The chefs were all so welcoming and always smiling.

The Babuna bar is just the best! We spent many a night having a laugh with the bar staff, whom are all very hard working and very entertaining. Darsh is such a wonderful person, always smiling and keeps his team and his customers very happy. We had many interesting conversations with the bar staff and felt like we got a real insight into both Maldivian, Sri Lankan and Indian cultures.

We also visited the spa on many occasions, treating ourselves to many a massage that we're oh so relaxing.

We also kayaked, swam with resident turtles, walked out to sea, played football with the staff, played GOLF on the island, visited a deserted island and snorkelled through a shipwreck!

To sum up, I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Kuredu to all, if what you want from holiday is: a beautiful island; full of friendly staff; a large array of marine life; many many activities on offer; good food; entertaining bar staff and resident turtles to swim with!

I hope to see you again, sooner rather than later!

Thank you for posting a review of your recent stay at Kuredu Island Resort & Spa.
Vessel in Prodivers and Darsh in the Bars will both be extremely proud of your praise for them.
It sounds like you really did find lots to do and maybe hardly had time to relax in between games of golf and football, visits to the Spa (I am sure you did relax there) and water adventures.
We all hope to see you again,"sooner rather than later".

We have just returned from a 14 night stay at Kuredu in a beach Bungalow. Having contacted our tour operator to ask for an upgrade prior to travelling out to the resort we were told there were no upgrades available from the tour operator itself but once we arrive at the resort ask for an upgrade as there should be some available as the resort normally holds some back for people wanting to upgrade on arrival. We arrived to find that we could not upgrade and was told by the lady looking after us that she would let us know if there were any upgrades available during our 14 day stay. We never heard from her again not even to just keep us informed. It was our honeymoon and my 50th Birthday Celebration so we felt that it would have been nice for the resort to assist us as we even didnt mind to just upgrade for the last few days, so it saddened us more to read that a couple staying at the same time was given a complimentary upgrade to a water bungalow for free when we were prepared to pay the full cost of an upgrade.

We arrived at Male airport to find our case was missing (apparently a regular occurrence) We arrived on Monday 11/08/14 and received our case Thursday evening 14/08/14. Not the resorts fault however if it was a regular occurrence then we feel that some provisions should have been made where we could purchase some cheaper supplies instead we had to use the very expensive shops on the resort to buy t-shirts and shorts, shoes etc. If it is a regular occurrence it would be nice for the resort to provide cheaper options.

The beach bungalow: It served its purpose but it was dark and oppressive inside and very basic. The outside garden and had no flowers in it and dull grey gravel in it which made it look scruffy and the wall surrounding it looked scruffy too. More like Glamping not the quality we were expecting for the price we paid.

The food was okay and always something there that you will like but nothing special. I think when you are spending the kind of money you spend to go to the Maldives you are looking for the wow factor and the big grilled platters of sea food and more master chef quality presented really well, we felt the quality was poor and presentation was poor too. On several occasions the food from the day before had been recycled so if there was baked potato's one evening the next day it was turned into potato curry same for fish next day you would get fish curry. We experienced this in Cuba on a much cheaper holiday but didnt expect it in Maldives.

Luxury sailing: The trip should have been cancelled as the crew knew the weather was going to be bad all day. We were taken out on a Windy Stormy day, no English speaking guide in fact no guide at all just the crew who could not speak English however the crew were very nice but it was chaos and it did not feel safe at all. The guy taking us out to snorkel gave no safety brief in fact never said one word and actually swam off and left us behînd struggling to keep up and in rough seas and strong currents another couple on the trip had to come back to help us. The boat broke down and the fumes from the engine were very strong. Food was actually very good that is when it didnt blow off your plate in the wind. We did all get a refund so no further complaints there but not the luxury romantic sailing we were hoping for.

Few other Minor observations

Towels were not replaced some days in the room, When called to have some towels took several hours to bring them. One time it was the next morning.
We were not allowed to eat afternoon tea around the pool area and had to sit in the dark seating area all the time again dark and oppressive.
No umbrellas around the pool area so not very shaded.
Had to dodge the sea planes on several occasions as they come into the snorkeling area and also had to dodge boats they too come into the snorkeling area oh and on our last day we had to also dodge the people sail boarding as they too was in the snorkeling area. Accident waiting to happen there!!! There was one incident when my husband had to literally wave his arms to stop the plane as it got too close. It finally stopped and let us get out of the way and get back to the steps. Very scary experience. Near the steps there is a very strong smell of fuel and can taste it in your mouth when swimming.
We were not allowed to take cocktails to our room however we could buy a bottle of Alcohol and take that to the room. I priced a bottle of Henessy Brandy and it was $208.00.

Positives:

Friendly staff
Nobody hassles you
No pressure for tipping - Tipped at the end
Resort is Paradise
Sea life in abundance, Mantas, Rays, Sharks, Turtles
Pro Dive Center most professional I have ever experienced (Vaisel not sure of the spelling was extremely professional, safe, and fantastic communication and his drawings of the Giri's should be put up for Auction they were brilliant)
Reef Hopping trip is amazing - Run by pro dive center
Cave trip good too but not actually caves you swim into you just snorkel above them more like a scalloped Reef Wall
Line fishing trip is good but if you catch a big fish be prepared to have cut fingers as the line cuts clean through the gloves you are issued with and your finger too.

In the end we did have a wonderful honeymoon on Kuredu but only because we decided to put all the negative stuff behind us and just enjoy the time we had together as a newly married couple. It would have been nice if we had received the nice treatment others seemed to have benefitted from but I think we were overlooked somewhat and our requests to upgrade ignored and the fact we were on our honeymoon and celebrating my 50th birthday was sad to not have had the absolute amazing experience we were both so looking forward to especially as we had worked so hard to pay for it and worked so hard on our wedding we just wanted to relax in complete luxury. The resort was recommended to us and we would be tempted to go again but we would never rely again on upgrading on arrival we have learnt a big lesson there to make sure we book the right level of accommodation before we arrive and don't take the chance as we would never stay in a beach bungalow again!!!

Room Tip: Book no less than a beach villa.

Dear roseroch,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your recent Honeymoon vacation at Kuredu.
It would appear that the holiday did not get off to the best of starts with the international airline misplacing your luggage. Added to that, it seems that your hopes of benefitting from a room upgrade were wrongly represented to you by your Tour Operator. Perhaps they assumed that the resort would be quieter in the summer months and there would be a possibility of a room upgrade. With a year round occupancy in excess of 90%, room upgrades at Kuredu are very limited, whether paying or not. As you say, "lesson learnt", i.e. book the room category that suits your budget and requirements or accept what is available.
It is worth me responding that our Kitchen is not over preparing any products one day to deliberately re-use what may perhaps be left over, in a different form the next day. All dishes are prepared on the same day that they are served.
I am sorry that the weather turned bad on the day that you went on the all day sailing excursion. Added to that, the mechanical failure of the boat was an unfortunate coincidence and it was therefore only right to give a full refund to all the participants that day.
For six months of the year due to the Westerly winds, sea plane and boat movements take place on the Eastern side of the Jetty, from where the House Reef is most easily accessible. As per the snorkelling map at the Jetty steps, snorkelers are strongly advised to swim to the start of the House Reef before starting to snorkel. To be snorkelling in the area of any boats or sea planes would indicate that these instructions have not been followed.
Despite the disappointments mentioned, I am heartened to note that you had a “wonderful Honeymoon” and that you “would be tempted to return again”.
I sincerely hope that is the case, as we would like to make amends for a not entirely satisfactory experience on this occasion.

Regards,
Ken Flockhart,
General Manager.

One of the best holidays I have been too... a great island.if you are a fan of snorkelling, kite surfing, and wind surfing..you will indeed love it here....

Sky: It was such a well organised team effort from the Kuredu team from the time we landed. There was someone to greet us at the arrivals, guide us to the shuttle to the seaplane airport.. separate lounge for the kuredu guests... fresh cool towels provided... sandwiches and drinks before we got on the sea plane ... Once we were on the seaplane woah!!! The views of the atols amazing... when and if you get a minute... browse through the inflight magazine as its a 40 to 50 minutes flight from malé to Kuredu. Some interesting info in there.. PLEASE PLEASE PACK YOUR SWIMMING COSTUMES IN YOUR RUCKSACK OR HAND LUGGAGE WHICH WILL ALWAYS BE WITH YOU... as your main luggage may arrive later..

Sea: we swam with some lovely beautiful colourful fish(trigger fish, clown fish, sweet lip fish - this one was the absolute winner of the beauty contest for me... a proper big mamma in her white polka dot outfit with a slap of lipstick on ... cute little turtles ... sharks-big and small (black tipped & grey reef sharks) ...

Although there are a large number of varieties of fish...i wldnt say the coral reef was brilliant. ..this is because i have been to the vilamendhoo island before and they have a better house reef...however i went on a reef safari snorkelling excursion and saw some cute dolphins up close and personal.... and they took us to the komandoo island house reef and they have a brilliant coral reef and some mind blowing kinds of fish ...definitely worth booking one of the snorkelling excursions!!!

On land: Kuredu's Sangu sunset point and Sangu sand bank is the best place to take the most romantic walk in your life... so a little tip to all you honeymooners out there... if you have any long lasting promises at all you want your partner to make for you... THAT'S THE PLACE FOR YOU!!!

The Kuredu Team: these young men and women won our hearts and minds from the minute we set our feet on the island.. greeting us with their local drumming.. Kuredu is a big island and there are 700+ of the Kuredu team who make our holiday a happy one.. Kaimal, Preethee, Fikry, Adham, Anif, Ahmed, Mirzan are all amazing people with a lot of knowledge on the best things to do around the island..Preethee and Fikry have been my daily morning dosage of laughter every day.. Darsh at the Babuna bar is a quiet calm chap but makes some good cocktails during our trip... sanjeeva at the akiri bar is a cool chap always smiling and happy to serve you ... even if your room is just a stone's throw away... i recommend you to take one of the golf carts to drive you down... the amount of knowledge you gather while taking a ride on the golf cart from drivers such as Moominool and abdullah are phenomenol... the food for breakfast...lunch and dinner was simply awesome... different cuisines every day and brilliant tasting food... desserts are to die for.. Moosa and Marrey looked after us so well at the komas restaurant..

The sweepers in red , the room cleaners, the sand fly cleaners, the sea weed sweepers... a big big thank you to all of you for being a superb team...

Duniye spa: we indulged ourselves for the full moon spa and massage...and its ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT. A COCONUT MILK BATH IS JUST THE WAY SUCH INDULGENCE SHOULD END :) WHICH IS INCLUDED IN THE FULL MOON INDULGENCE PACKAGE...

HATS OFF TO: Ken and Vinod and the entire management team, for running this whole island like a well-oiled engine... you guys are the best.. anytime I had an issue.. you immediately addressed the issue and patiently listened to what I had to say and made necessary ammendments. .

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT: Ken ... i know you read and respond to each and every trip advisor review..so my dear friend I address this section directly to you...I understand that inorder to run a big island such as Kuredu...you need to follow certain rules and regulations. however when we approach the team for something or the other... most of the time the initial response is - "sorry ma'm its against the rules.." and then a bit of a push and a nudge and they wld then do it for you...
Kuredu is seen as an international resort and educating the Kuredu team about people from different walks of life wld help them better to know what to say and what not to say to guests sometimes... since not all of them wld take things in a jovial way... hey! But this is a simple minor gap... which is nothing at all .... just speak to Ken if you face any issues and he is Mr.Superman for any issues during your stay...

Expensive medicines and essentials... Ken, please can you immediately look into this matter... Bare essentials such as toothpaste, medicines , sunscreen lotion are very very very expensive if you buy them at Kuredu... Please please ensure they are atleast equal to the money we pay for them back home...therr is only so much sunscreen and after sun lotion one can carry and sometimes qe might need to buy some more... so please Ken look into this matter as it requires urgent attention...

The last day we took off and left our gold chain by mistake in the locker... however when we reached Malé the kuredu team let us know abt this and thts only when we realised this and they made sure it reached us before we boarded the plane back home...

SO MY DEAR TRAVELLERS... IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO SPOIL YOUR LOVED ONES.. HAVE ARELAXING HOLIDAY ... FEEL SPOILT YOURSELF AND REACH HOME WITH A LOAD OF MEMORIES... HERE IS WHERE YOU NEED TO BE...

P.S : For all the British Airways travellers to Kuredu... if you have forgotten to buy an underwater camera... Do not worry!!! BA inflight shopping sells an underwater camera and camcorder for just £20 not sure abt quality though...

Dear sujsang,
Thank you for the interesting review of your recent vacation at Kuredu Island Resort & Spa.
I particularly appreciate the personal feedback given both in the content of your review and during our occasional discussions when me met around the island.
With regard to the price of toiletry items in our Gift Shops, it is important to understand the logistics and associated costs of importing goods initially into a local distributor or agent in Male and then on to the resorts. International freight, customs duties, tax, domestic freight and the distributors profit margins are all notable factors which may not be the case when buying similar products on the competitive UK high street.
It sounds like you had a wonderful vacation and I hope that one day we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Paradise.

We had an amazing honeymoon at Kuredu resort, the seaplane to get there was a first for us. You are then welcomed leaving the seaplane by some of the staff, who are all fantastic. We had booked to stay in a beach villa but as it was our honeymoon we were given an upgrade to stay in one of the water villas for one night. This was fantastic and we were also given a fruit basket and bottle of sparkling wine. There is a lot do at the watersports centre as well as being able to relax in paradise. The sand is like talcum powder it is so soft and the crystal clear water is amazing, we had so much fun snorkelling where we seen so many tropical fish and turtles - we were able to swim so close to them, the only fish to watch out for are trigger fish!
The food is outstanding we were impressed by how much variety there was, different cuisine each night and we ate so much over the 10 nights. We were sad to be leaving this resort had an amazing time.

We've just returned from 10 days on Kuredu for our honeymoon. It was a big splurge for us, and we spent a lot more on this trip than we normally would, but we wanted a real treat. Best decision we could have made!

Our jacuzzi beach villa was fantastic! Good air conditioning, big comfortable bed, and located equally between the main bar and the O resort pool. The room was kept very clean by the staff, although we did have to ring and ask for loo roll a couple of times after it wasn't replaced. The mini bar was full of soft drinks and beer which were part of our all-inclusive package.

The staff in the restaurants were brilliant and deserve high praise. Breakfast, lunch and dinner they looked after us and after just a few days they knew our drinks preferences. The chefs did a great job of making meals to order, and the choice of buffet options was consistently good- something for everyone! The bar staff were also nice and made excellent cocktails, although service could be quite slow in the main bar in the evenings when entertainment was on. Our tip- skip the queue by getting your drinks from the pool bar instead!

We loved the island's animals, such as the various types of crabs, the beach bunnies, President Henry (the island's guard bird), the geckos, the fruit bats and birds. The only local wildlife we didn't like were the mosquitoes, which seemed immune to the repellent we worn and had their own buffet on our legs!

The snorkeling was great. Even just a few metres off the shore we swam with turtles, rays, sharks, and all sorts of fish. The guided reef tour and the half day reef safari were the only trips we did and were both very good.

Our biggest tip for those travelling without young children is to use the pool at the O resort rather than the one by the main bar. The O resort has an age restriction of over 12 years, so it was mostly couples who wanted to relax in the sun. We went to the O resort pool every day and it was quiet and uncrowded even at peak times, with really comfortable sun loungers (with mattresses and pillows). You can get drinks from the bar there, and pop into the restaurant for breakfast and lunch with great views out to sea.

We had the most amazing honeymoon, with several special touches by the staff to help us celebrate. We were so sad to have to put our shoes back on and go back to the real world at the end of our holiday. My new husband has already promised to take me back for our 25th anniversary!

Many thanks to all of the staff who made our honeymoon so memorable!
