We made a special trip just to have another slice of carrott cake. As it was lunchtime we both had an open sandwich of ham with chilli jam on homemade chunky soda bread - delicious!! Followed by homemade carrott cake and a lovely cup of coffee. If you are thinking of popping in somewhere for a wee coffee and some cake it's hard to beat this place.

Stopped for a sandwich and coffee on our way to Crieff, glad we missed the Barley Bree and went in here! Excellent bread, ham, etc and very pleasant owner who gave us voucher for discount at Drummond Gardens, do go and visit this establishment.

Stopped by on a bike ride through Stirlingshire for a well needed coffee and cake. It was quiet and the friendly owners were happy to welcome 4 sweaty roadies and have a chat. Great brownie too - kept me going to the top of the hill outside town.. almost.

After a 5 mile walk through the cold and rain on Sunday, the Birdhouse Bakery was a welcome sight. We would have been happy with anything to heat us up at that point, but to our delight we were treated to wonderful cappuccino and lemon drizzle cake. There was a wide variety of home baking on offer and the portions were generous. The cups and saucers all look like they have been sourced from a charity shop, but it sort of adds to the unique character of the cafe.

We were staying round the corner at the Barley Bree, which gets great accolades for its food, but if the truth be told, I enjoyed my cake and coffee at this quaint eatery, more than the salty French delicacies that were served up over the rest of the weekend.

Well worth a visit if you are passing through Muthill.

Touring the area over Easter we called in at the Birdhouse Bakery and Tea Room purely by chance and discovered quite a special place. Tea served in delicate, mixed design, bone china tea cups and saucers. We tried the 'Stovies' and soda bread which was totally delicious. But most of all we enjoyed the coffee and walnut cake. Light, well balanced flavour and just enough, smooth, butter cream. Really Yummy. Would have like to have tried more as everything looked wonderful.
