Visited this castle on an inclusive tour. Setting was fairly remote with a very long road to reach the estate itself. Situated close to a beautiful loch but it is not possible to walk very far alongside it which was disappointing. The castle itself is charming but needs some tlc particularly in the gardens. The land immediately surrounding the castle is mainly forrest and there is a lot of timber working going on.
The staff are excellent , friendly and try their best to help. The food is excellent and there is plenty of it.
The rooms in the castle are very varied and different. Some have been renovated and are fine with good views over the loch. However, others are much smaller and have very limited views with only one window. So do chose carefully which room you have or you may be very disappointed as we were.
We did not see the distillery at all so cannot comment on whether it was functioning or not.
Check facilities in rooms before you book. Also be sure to request a refurbished room with views if you want a nice room. Be aware you may be situated on a higher floor (with no lift).More
