“Evening Meal”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

We stayed in Salen at Easter 2013 and decided to go to the loch shiel house restaurant for a meal. We were surprised when there wasn't anyone else there as it was Easter .There was one person at the bar , we ordered fish & chips and didn't really look at the prices as we have eaten here in previous years and it was always reasonable before. However how shocked we were when the bill arrived £60 for 4 Fish & Chips !! It wasn't that nice either , we can only presume that the prices have been put up to an extortionate price to put people off ordering as they didn't have any other staff than the barman.
Needless to say we won't ever be going again, which is a shame as it used to be ok.We have seen the hotel for sale so maybe that is why the service and prices were as they were.

“Too Expensive”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2013

Called into this hotel/restaurant for a bar meal it cost £ 15.00 for fish & chips each !!!! Wow now that is expensive and not very fresh either ! Better meals locally available. No one else there we should have realised why ?

“Very friendly local with excellent range”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2013

Popped in here for some take-out food as we found that the local fish and chip shop was not open as we were visiting out of season. Very pleased we did. Landlord very welcoming and we had a vast array of whiskies and other beers/spirits to choose from whilst waiting for our food to cook. 128 whiskies if i remember correctly.

Food didn't take too long and the fish portions were enormous. All very fresh and tasty.

We went back a few nights later for a few pints and a couple of whisky testers and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening involving a very lengthy game of pool and a chat on with the locals.

Dogs are also welcome at the pub as long as they are on a lead.

and Sherman the pig in the pen out back also said hello as we were leaving.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

Nothing else was opened in the area the night we went. Bar food only which is fair enough in January. Service was friendly , atmosphere a bit dismal. I couldn't finish my food as it seemed to taste of the oil it was cooked in. The location is amazing, this is such a shame.
