“Self-catering cottage”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2012

We stayed in Glendaven House's delightful Harvey Cottage in the village of Dinnet. It is beautifully refurbished and a pleasure to stay in. The hostess, Rebecca, offers many welcoming touches. The kitchen area is fantastic and the sitting room has two comfy sofas as well as a well-stocked bookshelf and very efficient fireplace. The back windws look out to an enclosed patio and the front windows have a garden view across the lane. There is a dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer for use. Upstairs are two bedrooms and a full bath. At the end of the small lane is a great restaurant; we can recommend the sticky toffee pudding. We used the cottage as our base for an area castle tour.

Room Tip: This is a quiet, tiny village location. Don't miss the nearby "Burn O' Vat" walk i...

We stayed at Glendavan House for 2 nights in June. We were in the Ogston Suite and the room was simply amazing. We have stayed at 5 star hotels and this suite was just as good or even better than a 5 star hotel. The suite itself consists of 3 rooms - a bedroom with an ensuite, a living area and a conservatory with a walkout deck and amazing views of little creatures paying visits to various feeders on the deck. We could have spent hours sitting in the conservatory. The living room has a beautiful fireplace. The rooms are beautiful and tastefully decorated and they're spotless. Even the bathroom was beautifully furnished. Alan and Rebecca are amazing hosts who go out of their way to help out and make your stay a memorable one. We had access to the kitchen with a fully stocked fridge and wonderful home made shortbread. Alan made reservations for us for dinners and we came back to a wonderful crackling fire in the fireplace on both nights. Rebecca is a wonderful chef and her breakfasts are very tasty. If you're ever in this area you must stay at Glendavan as I cannot imagine a better place to stay maybe except for Balmoral Castle. Thank you Alan and Rebecca for making our stay a very memorable one, we will always remember your beautiful home.

It is very hard to add anything to the accolades already attributed to Glendavavan House so I will simply say that it is the best place that we have ever stayed in Scotland. Alan and Rebecca made us feel so welcome and the size and luxury of the suite made us feel like the "Laird and Lady". The house is situated in one of the most beautiful spots with endless views of the surrounding hills and forest. To sit in the conservatory and listen to the birds and watch the squirrels is the ultimate in relaxation. We stayed 3 nights but had wanted to stay 4. Unfortunately for us the room was already booked for the 4th night and we had to move on. If time and money allowed you would still find us relaxing in the conservatory, hoping for cold weather so that we could move inside in front of a roaring log fire!

Room Tip: We selected the Ogston suite as it is on the ground floor and very easily accessible for me as I ha...

Our stay at Glendavan House was perfect! We were treated as kings & queens, everyone is so nice, very helpful - they truly want you to enjoy yourself. Great suggestions for restaurants, shopping, and in general. Our room, the Trantor Suite, looked down over the deck and we spent an enormous amount of time watching the pheasants wander in and out and the red squirrels playing! We loved coming back to the room in the evenings and lighting our fire - especially since it "magically" was cleaned up and re-stoked for the next time we wanted to light it! Great breakfasts. We can't say enough nice things about Glendavan, our hosts, and the surrounding area. Oh - and the family friend's shortbread is the best we've had! One of the top 2 places we have stayed during our 7 trips to Scotland!

Room Tip: Trantor Suite overlooks the deck, with the red squirrels, birds and pheasant. Also has a huge clawf...

Imagine a cottage in an enchanted forest, where squirrels bristle in old Scots pine and woodpeckers bob on giant peanut feeders that sway in the shimmering breeze. Imagine too, a little boy; not yet turned six, gathering eggs and presenting them to his grandfather who potters and preens among the plants in his shiny glass house. Then, imagine a room beyond a velvety staircase and a rickety door that whispers magic as you enter and gasp.
Look left at the spick and span bathtub that wraps you in bubbles of Lavender as you cock your ear to the call of Cuckoos.
Look right to a room, complete with cuddling couch and broad shouldered writing desk that commands you to sit and gaze at the splendour of a snow capped peak as yet unnamed until you reach for a guide beneath a table laden with tea time treats and quench your thirst.
Then straight ahead, a four-poster beckons, but not yet. There’s squirrels to capture in pixilated freeze frame from your bedroom window amid the chatter and whistle of chaffinches and sparrows and the odd bold enquiring Pheasant.
Then it’s off to explore, circumnavigate the nearby loch in record slow time, hearts buoyed by moorhen chicks racing to the come-here call of an attentive mother. Hearts lifted by gaggling geese slaloming through birch towards the soft peaty shore. Hearts stopping as curious snakes recoil into ferny mausoleums inches from your sole.
As dusk descends the scattering bats conduct the nighttime cacophony before sleep takes you down through half remembrances and future desires.
Dreams of breakfast arrive on the dot of eight with a girl who suppresses the urge to giggle at her good fortune then just after eight as sleep bows to memory, the girl changes into a woman but the giggle remains. The banquet begins and ends with a flourish. Berries and bacon clamour to be devoured and you don’t disappoint.
The birthday boy skips into view, clutching his gift of time. His every breath now measured in temporal segments and he’s going to be late.
You say your goodbyes and down the road a mile or two you wonder if it all happened this way and then you peel the sticker from your envelope and smile for you really did buy a ticket.

Room Tip: Pick the Trantor suite for four poster luxury and views to die for, not to mention the wildlife.

We stayed in the Davan Room and we were immediately impressed by the tasteful furnishings and comfortable feel of our room. Our large and well equipped bathroom was just across the hallway. Rebecca was quick to offer us tea, coffee and shortbread and recommend a walk for us to stretch our legs (just a short drive away is a nice walk to Burn O'Vat).
Unfortunately we were just passing through and could only stay one night but we will definitely be back to Royal Deeside and will definitely stay at Glendavan House.

We were two couples traveling around Scotland. We stayed 2 nights and wanted to stay longer. All 4 voted this the favorite. Our room was beautiful room with a private bath and sitting room. The 2nd room was very spacious with separate bath. Our stay was comfortable and friendly with unexpected extras. Great location for relaxing and a nature walk or home base for castle touring. I hope to return.
