Earlier this week my sister and I stayed in Cathcart Cottage beside the bridge leading onto the island. We were attending the Cooker School run on the island but not by Belle Isle Estate. The weather was terrible, wet, snowy and windy as in the rest of the UK. We had to collect the access instructions from Reception which was closed when we arrived but the keys were available for us. The heating was on and the whole cottage was very cosy and the photos on the web site are accurate and up to date. The bedrooms are well decorated with a twin and a single bed in each with en-suite shower or bathroom. The kitchen area had everything you need for survival. The dining/lounge area had a wood burning stove with enough wood to last several days. There was an audio system and TV with Freeview.
One down side was that the emergency number mobile we were given didn't work but luckily we didn't have an emergency. When I left the keys back I suggested that more information on the inventory of the cottage on the web site would have been useful and I was met with a disinterested look and the question "what sort of information?" I suggested that availability of hair dryers, the fact that there was a microwave and a few other small items of information would be useful. For anyone who is addicted to the internet, there is no wifi available in the cottages and the mobile phone signal is poor and certainly not 3 or 4G. The Fermanagh Lakeland is one of the most stunning areas of the UK and in spring and summer especially is a beautiful area to visit.
