“A hotel?”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

Stayed recently as part of 2 night Groupon deal - only stayed one night. The hallway to the rooms is unclean and unkempt. The room itself is laughably small with a sink in the corner even though the toilet and shower is at the other side of the room. Not a place you could spend time in so went to have a drink and dinner in the bar.

Had a drink outside as the Carrybridge is in a beautiful location, then in for dinner which was below average. The Devil's Hot bread explained by the waitress as being Italian breads with spices and dips is basically an uncooked pizza base with sweet chilli sauce and cheese on it, not a nice combination. Rest of the dinner was fine, yet unremarkable.

After dinner we returned to the bedroom and watched a film on our iPad, not the 12inch, remote-less, 5 channelled TV hanging above the bed. The walls of the rooms are so thin that it was possible to hear next doors TV. Fell asleep listening to the snores of someone next door or down the hall, knowing we would not be staying the second night.

Had breakfast the next morning after showing ourselves to our table and raising the waitress' attention after approximately 15 minutes. "What you want?", she asked. "A menu", we replied. "No, full fry or scrambled egg and toast." OK we thought - we'll have one of each. While waiting, others around us were able to request made to order breakfasts including poached eggs with various amounts of bacon, sausages etc. The waitress was quite possibly one of the worst members of staff we have ever came across. Oh, and there was hair in our milk. Breakfast was incredibly poorly thrown together, everything seemingly being pulled from a chip pan - including the 'breads'. We decided to check out immediately but were forced to wait until staff opened the reception at 11am.

We sped off not knowing where we would spend the next night but knowing that anywhere would be better. Do yourselves a favour and avoid this place at all costs unless you like substandard accommodation and food.

On having read your review i will take each of your points and address them individually.Firstly i cannot agree with how you described our corridors as being unkempt, we pride ouselves in our housekeeping and ensure that all public areas of the hotel are clean albeit we have some constraints to work with given our proximity to the lake and nature.
Your comments as regards the devils flat bread, this is a sweet bread which we bake in the oven and not a pizza base, the texture of a pizza base would not lend itself to this dish. We do use a high quality sweet chilli sauce and have had no other complaints about this simple starter.
I do have to apologise for the thinness of the walls in our bedroom block but most guests staying with us understand the constraints that we have with a wooden building. I myself recently stayed in a five star hotel in spain and had a ground floor room, with a woman who walked on a tiled floor above in high heels these sort of issues cannot be avoided given the circumstances.
Again i do have to apologise for how you percieved our breakfast procedure and have to admit that we can be somewhat casual as we try to accommodate all guests requests, i think that perhaps the fault lay with yourselves in not asking the breakfast staff for your required breakfast, we make no difference between groupon customers and other customers and on checking our register most of the guests in our restaurant that morning were all groupon guests, therefore the fact that you felt that other guests were being treated differently is not the case. Again i would have to apologise for our casualness as we allow our staff to go the extra mile with the hospitality to make up for our limited facilities. I would also like to point out that the breakfast staff can also check guests out, our bar/reception does not open until 11am but breakfast staff can do check outs if need be.
Your final comments again i feel are unjust as although we did not meet your expectations out of 380 groupon deals we have to put the negative reviews on here in perspective and that are quantified at approximately2-3%. Im sorry that you did not feel the essence of what we are trying to offer as many of our guests do and keep returning knowing that yes while our facilities are basic the warm welcome and our hospitailty is guarnteed so they keep coming back.

Rooms very clean and crisp, chalet style with ample hot water, towels, etc. Food excellent with a lovely chef who visited in the restaurant each evening. Breakfast also excellent with the nicest staff. Very relaxed atmosphere with clock set on "Fermanagh time".

Booked this hotel through groupon. When we arrived we were left standing as a blonde haired woman sat in an office glancing out at us, never got up mind you. the whole hotel smelt a little damp and had cobwebs everywhere. when we got to our room it was probably the smallest room I have ever been in, although clean. To boil the kettle you had to carry it to the other side of the room (although not far) it was still boiling. We did not get our free glass of wine which is in the offer with groupon. Though I am pregnant so I wasn't bothered my husband loves wine. Had dinner in the lounge that first evening, I found a bloody vein running through my chicken. I didn't complain straight away I thought it could happen to anyone, so I waited until the waitress came to take away our plates. She went on to inform me when I showed it to her that it was only the tail bit of the chicken that wasn't cooked, and would have been alright, again I stress I am clearly to the naked eye 8 months pregnant. When I informed her that it wasn't alright for any part of the chicken to be raw she said she would inform the chef. His reply apparently was that it was only a vein with a bit of blood in it (that's what we were told when she returned). We were told we would get the dessert for free. When the bill arrived after 20 mins of asking for it, it came through at full price, after refusing to pay full price three times!!!! we finally got the price of one dessert knocked off the price. on the bill arriving at the table for the third time, the chef arrived in the doorway, and watched our table until the bill was paid then walked away, he never once came to the table, but had the part time bar man deal with the situation. The bar man was more than helpful though I may add, a gentleman.
all in all it was a terrible experience, and one I will not be repeating for a very long time, nor would I pass its name on to anyone.

Room Tip: go to another hotel

I cant rate the rooms as we didnt stay but our hearts sank as we approached the selection of what looks like tired old porta cabins that is the 'carrybridge hotel'. However the kids were hungry and tired and we thought, 'lets give it a go, it cant be that bad'. Well the service was poor, despite the fact there was loads of young staff on, only one older member of staff seemed to have any idea of what constituted good customer service, the rest avoided all eye contact in case they got a job to do. The food was worse and we had to complain about a lasagne that was burnt to a crisp , it went back to the kitchen and re-appeared cut in half, with all the meat removed!!! so we complained again and finally got a different meal... but by then the damage was done and we couldnt wait to leave.

just back from a visit to carrybridge hotel very basic rooms but spotlessly clean with crisp white sheets and towels the staff are very friendly and helpful, and great craic. The food was absolutly delicious and the setting at the side of the lough peaceful and relaxing. The building is not beautiful but all the rest makes up for it. Chris Belfast

I am not very good at writing reviews .... so here goes... I have not stayed in the hotel but have visited the hotel many times for food and drinks over the years... The atmosphere is very homely and the food is good especially the carvery on Sunday!! There is always a welcome and there is entertainment on most weekends.. It has a real fire in the winter and with a pint of beer you could sit there for hours. Don't expect a big posh hotel but just a home from home.. I would heartily recommend the Carrybridge Hotel..
