Had a lovely romantic evening in the upstairs restaurant on tuesday night.

It was very quiet with only one other couple dining but this suited us. Table was booked for 8.30, but we arrived early to have a drink. Would definately recommend giving yourself time for this, to sit by the fire and enjoy the ambience of the room. Very cosy.

The waiter/barman was very knowledgable about wine and assisted with our choices.

We ordered while having our pre dinner drinks, but were not rushed to move into the restuarant.

The restaurant room is beautiful. It feels luxurious yet relaxed.

The food was full of flavour and very rich (Almost a struggle to get to the end) but enjoyed all that was served to us.

Afterwards we returned to the fireside to finish our wine and again, there was no rush or pressure to finish up and leave.

Service was excellent, everything well timed to allow rests between courses.

Will definately return here for a treat in the near future

This was a very good restaurant, very nice waitress, very wide choice of food. I had pigeon followed by duck followed by chocolate torte, my wife had a steak and my friend had fish chowder, all of which were well cooked and although it was quite full the food was cooked and served without undue delay. thoroughly recommended - unhappy 186470 must have been there when the waitress and cook had their day off.

We had a disasterious meal here back in June and on the strength of a letter of complaint which resulted in a apoligy and a £30 voucher (bit mean but better than no responce) we gave it another go on Sunday the 12th of August with an open mind after our last spolited night out we had a table for 5 adults and three children. Starters for some people not all, did we want the childrens meals served with starters or main course.Main course please was selected, WHY O WHY then serve with the starters.
my main course was a haddock rosotto this was so salty that it was not edible, meal removed and another one offered I personaly want to eat with my family not 20, 30 minutes later so declined other adult all had resonable meals interestingly a table close by had the same problem with the same dish before we left. you had a second chance you have gone so far of the boil didnt even bother complaining by letter will vote with my feet and tell all my friends NEVER AGAIN Mr MILLER will we cross your door

We treated ourselves to a Saturday night in the restaurant, our third and best trip to this fantastic place. Only £15 each way in a taxi from four winds. Brilliant !

6 of us booked a Saturday evening for 7.30 p.m. downstairs in Balloo House and although it was full, we were shown immediately to our table. The staff were friendly and attentive and we all ordered varied meals, from fish to chicken, meat dishes to a burger meal which my son almost frequently sticks to everywhere he dines. Staff were patient as we placed our order even though they had to wait while a few couldn't just make up their minds what to choose. Jugs of water arrived as well of course as the wine and the food was served quickly with all our extras served with a smile. It has a great atmosphere and is one of the few places with a country pub feel to it. I think there were about 4 starters, our main meals and then 4 desserts and one cheese platter. The cheese platter was the only thing we were disappointed in with a few oatcakes, crackers and with very little cheese but this would be the only complaint so treat yourself to a dessert and forget the cheese. There were 2 bottles of wine and the bill for 6 was around £180 which I think is reasonable considering the wine and a few soft drinks were included in the bill. Will definitely return and would recommend here to anyone.
