Arriving late in Cherbourg we found the town's hotel accommodations to be fully booked, but a stroke of luck pointed us in the direction of this functional-looking auberge about 12kms west of Cherbourg.
Set on the main road at Ste Croix Hague, we were shown to a room that's better described as a suite that, across two rooms plus bathroom, would sleep 6. Comfortably decorated with homely touches, there's no escaping that this is a roadside inn, but with home-made auberge meal and the biggest cup of fresh coffee to see us on our way in the morning, it proves excellent value and a welcome alternative to some of the town's established hotels that seem to begrudge the need to serve.
The owner who, until recently, had worked at The Mercure in Cherbourg, offers a warm and personal service that's refreshing to find. Offering exceptional value for money, I'm sure that this accommodation will go from strength to strength.
