We stayed for 3 nights and 4 days for the Easter 2012 break.

- Situated right on the main road in Dolwyddelan.
- Hotel has wonderful nice rooms, we got one with the view. The double bed room is a large one with nice snow-capped mountain visuals from the main window.
- The hotel has got its own private parking with ample car park spaces.
- Dolwyddelan is just 5 miles from the bigger town "Betws-y-Coed". There is a local superstore SPAR situated just 5 mins walk from the hotel for any general stuff. There is a SPAR in Betws-y-Coed as well.
- 40 mins drive from the main tourist attraction town: Llanberis. We did 2 major attractions here: One is the Snowdon Mountain Railway which is a cog wheel train that takes you to the Mount Snowdon Top. The second is the Electric Mountain tour which is a 2 hour ride inside the slate mountains to see the Dinorwig Hydro-electric Power Station.
- If you happen to visit Snowdonia, do make a stop at "Beddgelert". This is a beautiful town with a bridge and a stream, looks wonderful on a sunny day. There is a famous Pizza place called "Glaslyn Ices". We had wonderful pizzas, ice creams and milkshakes here.
- We also did the "Welsh Highland Steam Engine Tour" from "Caernarfon".

- Places to visit in North Wales: Llanberis, Beddgelert, Caernarfon, Conwy and Llandudno.

- The hotel owners are nice people. The guy suggested two nice red wines for us, which were brilliant. We got the wines from the hotel's main bar. There is also a selection of DVDs to take and watch in the room.

This is a great place at a fab location because it gives you a chance to drive to a lot of places located within an hour from the hotel. And one gets to see the real beauty of North Wales - valleys, streams, snow capped mountains.

Highly recommended hotel.

Room Tip: Get the room with the view.

This inn is filled with great character and is very clean and well maintained. The owners were always on hand to help and everything is really well laid out. The rooms are comfortable and the beds are very comfortable.

My wife and I wanted a couple nights away and found this place on the internet with a quick search. We needed somewhere that would accept pets as we had our Bichon Frise with us. She was also made to feel very welcome and at no point did we feel unwelcome or a hassle. A couple locals popped in for a drink in the evening and were very friendly.

Even though this is a pet friendly hotel it didn't even have a wiff of pets. Very impressed!!!

Beautiful views and set in a nice and peaceful area so very good for relaxing or long walks. Well worth te money.

Room Tip: We had the budget room but even that was nice. Small, but nice.

We spent a fantastic long weekend at this lovely family run hotel. We stayed in room 4 which consisted of a master bedroom with 4 poster bed and a small additional room with bunk beds which was ideal for our daughter. There was plenty of storage available in the main room and the views over the valley were breathtaking.

Both Adam and Helen could not have been more friendly or welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The bar and lounge were warm and cosy and the food in the restaurant was well cooked and presented. Our room was clean and tidy with tea and coffee, hairdryer, trouser press and tv.

The hotel is ideally situated for exploring Snowdonia with plenty of things to do and see in the area. The weather was very good and much to her delight our 6 year old daughter climbed Pyg to reach the summit of Snowdon in around 3 hours.

The hotel itself is a lovely old building which has obviously been updated and renovated. Yes there is the odd bit of wallpaper that needs tidying up but for us this just added to the character and charm of the place. I spend a lot of time travelling the UK staying in modern, souless hotels which all look the same and provide the same disinterested level of service. Personally, I would rather spend a cozy evening in front of the stove at Elen's Castle enjoying a well earned drink!
We would definitely return in the future.

We were on holiday in Wales staying in Dolwyddelan, and for my wife's birthday decided to go here for a meal as it was only a 5 minute walk - but how disappointed were we!

As we first walked it in wasn't very welcoming, we were asked to go through to the bar but the hostess was not particularly welcoming, never asked us how we were, had we had a good day - you know, the sort of welcome that makes a difference.

My wife asked for the Pate as a starter (not a lot of choice on the menu) but was then told it wasn't the same pate but another one - not a major issue though.

We were taken through to the restaurant which had seen better days, with seats that were ripped, paint coming off window frames, tatty carpet. The people who's orders were taken a while after us were served first, again not a major issue but a little frustrating. Our table-cloth had bits on it, and the napkins were paper - not what you expect in a restauarant.

Our starters arrived with dull dry limp salad, my wife just ate her pate and toast. I wolfed mine down as I was starving - my Salmon Goujons were very average, the breadcrumb coating wasn't very light.

When the main courses arrived, the veg looked like the salad had, bull, limp and lifeless, and my mash potatoes were stodgy. My wife's Chicken Cymru was nice and my Welsh Beef Pie was nice - however the portion was small and not exactly 'deep filled' and the cut edges were dry as if it had been cut and then warmed up.

Ok we weren't expecting the Ivy, but we were very disappointed. Even when paying we were never asked if we'd enjoyed the meal - just no pleasantries.

To anyone who has read this review - we hope that you read the other reviews and can therefore draw your own conclusions as to the type of people we are. It was obviously more important to these people for them to go and put a negative review on trip advisor rather than to make a polite complaint and give us the chance to prove how we really care about our customers. We stress that no complaint was ever made at any point.

Since we took over Elen's Castle Hotel in 2007, we have constantly invested and continue to invest in the renovation and updating of all of our rooms. The carpet in the garden room is being replaced at the beginning of May (in the next couple of weeks) and we have reupholstered the seat concerned. We aim to provide a relaxing, informal and unstuffy atmosphere where people can enjoy themselves. We appreciate that a very small minority of people are just never pleased!

My partner and i stayed here for a weekend away what a lovely place! the room we stayed in had a four poster bed, tv, tea coffee etc and one of the best views i have ever out of a hotel window. The room to be honest was a little "tired" but not as tired as us after all the wonderful walks we went on in the fantastic country side. The food and atmosphere were fantastic and owned and run by a very friendly team i would like to say thank you it was a special stay thank you
