Off the canal for a meal. Bar maid was standing in at short notice for the landlord and was not really up to spec on the job but she was very friendly and did her best. Although when the bill was checked she had charged us for a bottle of wine and not the single glass that was had!
When we ordred food and the landlady / chef was friendly & helpful.
The pate was commercially produced and not very tasty.
When the fish cakes were ordered we were told they were actually crab cakes, not a problem for the person who wanted them until they arrived as they were in thick batter and deep fried. The batter was not cooked properly and the crab was very bland.
Three of us had scallops with chorizo and black pudding. There were 3 large scallops which were well cooked and really juicy, the chorizo was chopped into tiny pieces and on top of the scallops and the 3 slices of black pudding were over cooked, dry & tasteless. The vegetables were acceptable but the potatoes were not quite cooked.
Two had corned beef hash which was a slightly different take on the norm as it had a bechamel sauce layer and was very tasty and enjoyed by both.
