Earlier this month during a day trip, I had the misfortune of meeting friends for sunday lunch. Manager was rude on entering, after shouting down the telephone "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO" he stated that he was talking to his child!!!!!!!!!!!!
Starter was melon, served warm, can only think that no room was left in the fridge, as one member of the party is a vegie, and her main course was served cold! My main was pork, with burnt crackling and very over cooked stringy meat.
we were given a selection of veg, which included ONE piece of broccoli for the four of us to share, when we asked for slightly more, the waitress looked stunned.
the deserts were average and tasted like ones from any frozen section of a supermarket.
At the end of the meal I then had to endure the state of the toilets - situated just to the left of the kitchen, wish now I had crossed my legs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also would like to comment on the grounds of the hotel, somehow they have managed to cultivate empty beer bottles in every flower bed, very poorly kept, could look beautiful if it looked like thought played a part.
But at least I have the memories of how rude the manager was to his own child, I wasn't quite spoken to like that!

Recently stayed here with my partner for a long weekend-where do I start!!Firstly on the positive side the location is great, sadly this is the only positive. The staff here are absolutely ghastly,in particular the manager was extremely repulsive. His attitude and customer service skills are quite dire.I dont think I've ever had the misfortune to meet anyone quite so ghastly,EVERYTHING was too much trouble.I stongly advise you to stay somewhere else.
The food was of very poor quality and value-overpriced slop!! We've stayed at many hotels around the UK and have never had cause to complain before, but we have to say this is definately the worst place we've ever stayed purely due to the unwelcome atmosphere and obnoxious management. You have been warned.........

we had a 50th anniversary party at the Beggars Reach for 80 people. Despite lots of notice and several discussions with them they said they were only able to provide a buffet because of the small number of guests! On the night there were three salads, one was just lettuce and one was lettuce and tomatoes, there were then three types of stew, pork, beef and lamb and a bowl of rice and bread that looked like it had been left over from Sunday. There was barely enough to go around if you didn't put much on your plate and not enough for anyone to go back for more. The desert was 2 profiteroles and a chocolate type source ( wasnt very high qual;ity) or a roulade which looked ok and coffee. This cost us £17 each. The evening with our friends was great but the food bitterly dissappointing...beware

We stayed 2 nights for a Christmas Dinner Dance and our party took most of the rooms.

The hotel is set in open countryside with neat gardens, the rooms are comfortable if a little cluttered and the food was good, however it became very apparent that we were not welcome by the manager and his family.

Party poppers that were put out for the party were removed by the Manager, it was only when we asked for them that he said that he had removed them for health and safety reasons.

The party came to an abrupt end at 12.30 when the bar shutters were brought down and two security guards were positioned in front. Apparently this hotel has the security presence for licensing rules but it made the whole party feel very uncomfortable. Again It was disappointing that the manager could not have explained this himself before hand.

The hotel would not consider extending the bar for residents and without any apology or explanation the final insult was when the owners daughter told us "to go to bed now".

Be warned that even on a Sunday breakfasts are only served up until just 9.00, some of our party arrived at 9.20 initially to be told that there were 2 spare breakfasts, however later told that there were none after all.

Whilst the hotel is in a nice location I would not recommend it for any evening function such as a wedding, or Christmas party.

An expanded traditional family-run hotel in an exceptionally quiet location, this is almost the perfect away-from-it-all destination – but perhaps not the best place for children & teenagers who expect to be ‘entertained’. The restaurant produces good, traditional food. Overall, this hotel is good choice for a relaxing few days.
