Good set of information signs as to the original castle building, worth walking down through where the kitchens were to the River Monnow. Also no entrance fee!

One of the ‘Three Castles” built to subdue the Welsh. Located in the middle of town, it has some partially remaining towers and keep. A bit snow and wet the day we visited, it is well worth the drive into the countryside. The other two of the Three Castles are Grosmont Castle and White Castle.

Although Skenrith Castle is in the middle of nowhere, it is a lovely postition. We found this place through the National Trust handbook and out Sat Nav took us there. We'd been to a NT property locally to us earlier in the day and had time in the day to visit Skenrith Castle.

There are no tes/coffee facilities or toilets on site, but if I remember there is a Cafe a few yards away frommthe entrance. It is a lovely place to go, it isn't manned so there is no fee to pay. Great for families with young children with lots of imagination. It isn't suitable for people in wheelchairs.
