“Comically bad service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

Went for early-ish lunch on a Monday, bar man so surly, unhelpful and unwelcoming it was actually quite funny. Despite the fact it was 12.15 on a Monday they only had one burger in the building. Basic bar food took 50 mins to arrive despite the fact there was barely anyone else eating. When it did arrive it was rather good, but not good enough to make me want to return or, indeed recommend the place to anyone else.

Thank you for your correspondence regarding Monday lunchtime service.
I could hardly recognise the young man in our employment from the description you gave of him as he has been regularly been complimented on his attitude and skills by others. In this instance however after making enquiries about that particular day I hope that any shortcomings are due to the fact that immediately following his shift he had to be driven to hospital to have a knee brace fitted on a torn ligament.
Monday in the day we replenish after the weekend and as this had been a particularly busy weekend we were awaiting a butchers delivery in order to make fresh burgers amongst other items on the menu, all of which are made from fresh ingredients not frozen and hopefully accounts for you finding the burgers rather good.

According to our computerised printout your order was taken at 12.20 along with your companions order and was cooked in the order in which it was received in the kitchen.

An establishment such as the Beaufort has several eating areas which are not in view of all the guests, such as the rear of the brasserie and the private dining room and would be out of sight of you and your companion who were seated some distance away on the external terrace area. We endeavour to deal with orders in the sequence in which they are received by the kitchen irrespective of where the customer is seated.
We apologise if you think there was undue delay in our service, had you brought this to our attention at the time we would happily clarified things to you then.

This old coaching inn is well located for exploring Monmouthshire, the Wye Valley and the Brecon Beacons. The room that we had ( Number 2 ) was very comfortable, a decent size and quite well appointed. Breakfast was excellent and the staff were most pleasant. The lounge bar is also a pleasant place for a beer or two.

Room Tip: Go for room number 2 over looking the Church.

Visiting friends for an evening celebration we needed a bed for the night. Efficient check in and good bedroom in this very busy pub/restaurant. However my wife correctly described her fruit platter at breakfast as superb - 8 different fruits beautifully displayed. In fact this dish beat 2 5* star hotels where we recently stayed by a long way. My full cooked breakfast was equally outstanding and included 2 fried eggs (which upset my wife) and the freshest and largest mushrooms ever seen.

I have never reviewed breakfast before but this really was exceptional.

We came as a party of six 'concessions' and were made thoroughly welcome. Staff responded to our noisy humour with cheerful forbearance, and could not have been more helpful. Meals were excellent, and of generous proportion. A thoroughly enjoyable stay.

We stayed at the hotel as part of a party of 6 for 2 nights. As soon as we walked into the hotel we felt very positive vibes and were warmly welcomed by the lady at the reception desk. We were impressed by the interior of the hotel and had excellent meals including breakfast in both the Bistro and one of the 2 bars. The bedroom was clean, comfortable and had all the facilities we required. All members of staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend the hotel to others.

After a nightmare at another local inn, we found a warm reception at the Beaufort Arms. They were efficient, helpful and understanding without being overbearing. Room was warm and comfortable, food was good and the beer very acceptable. We slept well, despite being over the bar on the night of Wales' victory over England! Breakfast kept us going all day. The central location within Raglan village is good - there are several local shops and other pubs and hotels nearby and road access is very easy. Only down side would be the charge for a broadband connection (£3.50 / hour) which really should be free in the 21st century.
