Riding Rock is a 2 minute drive from the airport which is great if you've had a long flight. Check in was quick and easy. Rooms are very basic. 2 beds, small TV with a remote, AC and a small bathroom. Room was cleaned everyday. They do need major upgrades however. AC is loud and I found it hard to fall asleep. I would have liked to have left the patio door open, but there is no screen door. Bathroom shower head is clogged up and takes forever just to get your hair wet. The food some days was amazing and other days average. Breakfast was the same everyday, and after the 4th day I'd go to a little cafe down the street just after the dock and buy something there. (For lunch they make a killer Philly cheese steak.) If you're not picky about what you eat, you won't mind the food. A few of us got tired of the selection and paid $90 to go have the supper buffet at Club Med next door. A quick 5 minute drive, or a good 20 minute walk. (well worth the money) Service was great all around. Peaches at the Driftwood bar was great.

Diving: We had 3 dives a day included. Each dive site was amazing and unique. This was the first time I had seen a hammerhead shark or even reef sharks. John the dive-master was great and knowledgeable, and Bruce the captain and his adorable dog Jazzy was top notch. Best diving I have seen so far in the Caribbean.

Overall: Best vacation I've ever been on. Would I go back? NO, Would I recommend a friend to stay here? NO but do I regret going? Absolutely not. The amazing diving, friendly people more than make up for the little annoyances. If I were to go back to San Salvador it would be to the Club Med where you can dive with Nitrox and eat amazing food everyday.

We have been home for a couple of weeks now and my mind keeps drifting back to our amazing dive vacation. We were welcomed with warm smiles and a delicious meal when we arrived in San Salvador. This family style resort is casual and low key with exceptional service. The diving was terrific...the dive masters were attentive and made sure everyone was comfortable. We saw lots of grouper, reef sharks, a turtle occasionally and when lucky a hammerhead would take a look at us and drift off into the deep blue. Captain Bruce did a great job running the boat and helping us on and off the boat. Ryan, Jim and John did a great job making sure the dives went smoothly. It was my first experience with sharks and I learned a lot about these amazing creatures. They really are just curious about us and want to see if there could be an offering of a lionfish off a spear. Loved San Salvador and Riding Rock...a place I will definetly be visiting again and highly recommend. Thank you to Angie, Karen, Michele, Peaches and the rest of the staff at Riding Rock.

Just finishing a week at Riding Rock. As previous reviewers stated, accommodations are dated but adequate. Lovely location right on the water. Excellent food and service. The diving was FANTASTIC! Excellent viz, beautiful wall, plenty of fish. Saw our first hammerhead and lots of reef sharks of course. Captain Bruce and John our dive master were the best. Highlight had to be the friendly grouper who followed us waiting for our speared lionfish. CHOMP, gobbled him up. Several times. Even more spectacular was our release of speared lionfish to be gobbled up by by the fastest shark ever. Had a great time. Will definitely come back.

We stayed here for a week with a diving group. There were 16 of us in total. We were fed breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. The food was absolutely wonderful! Much better than any of the all inclusive resorts I have stayed in. The service was impeccable! The Williams family that runs the resort should be proud of what they have to offer divers and vacationers!

Room Tip: All rooms face the ocean and have wonderful views!!

When we first checked into the Riding Rock Resort in January, 2012, I was skeptical. The room looked just a little worn. The air conditioner sounded like a 747 with an oil leak. The ceiling fan wheezed. The bed squeaked. But it took only 24 hours to make me a believer in the resort. The staff did their darnedest to help me feel comfortable. They fixed the bed. We didn't use the ceiling fan, and the AC mellowed out after being on for a spell. But what really hooked me was the staff. This is a family owned operation, with hands on management. That translates to customer satisfaction. If I wanted to talk to the owner, no problem, she's behind the counter. Or he's helping around the property. Their regular dive master position had just been vacated, and their go to guy that steps in when they need temporary help is a peach of a guy. And he's from Michigan! As am I. Tyler and Jim, his assistant, were more than great. And they had backup help from John as well. The diving was all it's built up to be, with plenty of sharks, fish, coral and sponges. Our boat captain, Bruce, is knowledgeable, dependable and a nice guy to boot. They all made our group of 14 feel like we were valued customers, as well as family. The food was good, not great, but good. The wait staff and Peaches, the bartenderess, were also part of the great experience. I would defiantly come back.

Room Tip: We had the deluxe rooms, but had a peek at the regular rooms. Both looked good.

San Salvador is the most historic island of the Bahamas, it is here that Columbus did land on the 12th October of 1492, "discovering" the New World. The island with a unique see, has
a little populations , over 1.300 peop0le, in the same size as Manhattan. It has only two opposite possibilities for stayng One is the Club Med, who is a large place, full of life and entertainment, and it is one of the best ClubMed worlwide. The other is the Riding Rock, built in the Fifties, when there was a large american base, and which has about 50 rooms, with a swimming pool and a tennis court, and nothing else. It is over the bay, rooms go directly into the beach. Rooms are simple, but with everything.needed.
This resort was a very famous diving center. But, because of the death of the owner, diving has been disconnected. The hotel now is largely desert, and if somebody wants to have an holiday in absolute peace and in direct contact with nature, yet with air conditioning and modern amenities, this would be kideal. Be ready for simple food, basic service, but lot of peace, and an island at your service...

Room Tip: All the ground floor go directly into the beach
