We stayed at the beautiful Club Med Columbus Isle in San Salvador, Bahamas this past June with our family. It was our first time there and the beach was amazing! There was no time to waste as soon as we landed as the resort was only 2 minutes away. What a friendly and fun crew. The food was nutritious and delicious and always accessible no matter what time of day. The beach bar was fun and lively with bartenders so eager to make anything you dare to try. Our 11 year old son had such a fun time he couldn't wait to wake up each morning and hit the daily fun activities, and each day was different. The tennis clinics were fabulous with such professional and wonderful instructors. The parties went into the wee hours of the night, but we were only able to make it to one as we were too pooped from the activities of the day. What a fun time, we will definitely go back!

Room Tip: go for the second floor with ocean view.... so beautiful! don't forget to have a meal or two at...

excellent value, we went here for march break.
kids programs so so as its not marketed as a kids resort, that being said our kids found plenty of friends.
food was spectacular, always plenty of fresh choices and lots of fish.
sailboat fleet was catamarans, very well maintained.
tennis club and courts excellent.
rooms average but the beach was exceptional so no need to spend much time in the room.

We just got back from a BEAUTIFUL week at Club Med Columbus Isle in San Salvador, Bahamas. From the daily beach activities and delicious food and drinks to the GOs and GMs... there was plenty to do and see in the company of new friends.

When we arrived at the San Salvador airport, we were greeted by the energetic and cheerful Club Med staff, the GOs, ready with refreshing washcloths and ice cold beverages.

We traveled by bus (a very short trip) to the club, where we were welcomed by several GOs who were on the verge of starting a blow-out bash to honor our arrival.

We must recognize the individual staff members who made our stay memorable and special.

Sailing GO, Bryce Aulin, was "da man." You'll discover that not only is he a great entertainer (He looks like George Michael) as a singer, dancer, and performer - but he is also a comedian who will tell jokes and mind benders that you'll only wish you could remember to impress your friends back home.

Antonio, who works at reception, went above and beyond to make certain we were assigned to the rooms we requested (adjoined with our family). Madelline, a business office GO, was gracious and kind... not to mention a great lunch mate!

Teenage camp GO, Alison, was an absolute joy! We enjoyed watching her perform in one of Club Med's nightly shows. Alison is honest, warm-hearted, and now a lifelong friend.

Also, a special thank you to Tracie who patiently helped us learn to waterski.

While snorkeling, we enjoyed seeing parrot fish, trigger fish, barracuda, sting-ray, squid, blowfish, and a variety of tangs. We even saw a reef shark.

The GOs welcomed us back from snorkeling with cold fruit for refreshment. They seemed to be everywhere, at anytime, to cater to our needs. The Chef de Village, Charles, couldn't have been more charming.

Friendly, friendly, FRIENDLY - everyone we met! Delicious, delicious, DELICIOUS - every bite we took! Gorgeous, gorgeous, GORGEOUS - everywhere we went. Do we recommend this Club Med in San Salvador? A resounding YES!

My wife, Susan, and I just returned from a week at Club Med's Columbus Isle resort on San Salvador, Bahamas. From the first footstep on the tarmac at the airport until boarding the plane a week later it was simply the most outrageously terrific vacation we've ever had. Our ocean view room (449) was absolutely amazing, and our lovely housekeeper, Sloan, kept it that way each and every day. Sloan, thanks for making our stay in our room so wonderful, and also for keeping us well stocked up with bottles of water!

Another kind of unexpected and very pleasant surprise was the quality of the food and the tremendous variety that they put out at each meal. The kitchen staff work their magic and create some of the best food that we've ever been served even in very upscale restaurants. Do make sure that you carefully check out the specialty items that are offered at mealtime, particularly at dinner time, as there were some real gourmet items that were not only delicious, but were veritable artistic presentations on the plate. We'd be remiss in not mentioning the great 'beverage' service we received at each of the numerous bars on the resort. The bartenders were fantastic, quick, good-natured, and made some seriously refreshing drinks for us. Thanks, Tim, Wendell, Nicholas, and all the rest of you!

The Reception Manager, Giulia, is a true pro and went out of her way to ensure that every guest at Columbus Isle is continually kept comfortable and happy. We also enjoyed spending time with her in the evening, meeting some of her excellent staff and simply marveling at how efficient they all are at answering questions and keeping all of us having fun. Giulia and her Reception staff can assist you in scheduling massages (which were fabulous!), or make dinner reservations at Watlings. Plus you'll always want to stop by Reception and pick up the daily schedule of activities. Giulia, you're the best! We miss you so much!

I also want to give a big 'Merci beaucoup' to Mimi at the Excursions desk. She was wonderful at arranging most of the excursions or extracurricular activities that we did during our stay. First, she recommended that we take the trip to Pigeon Creek Lagoon and High Cay. Frankly, this may well have been the high-point of our entire stay. Read on for our 'High Cay' adventure--

Club Med transported our group of ten (four French, four Canadian, and the two of us from California) to the south end of the island where we boarded a pontoon boat and went up into Pigeon Creek Lagoon and spent a couple of hours with two local Bahamians who enthusiastically gave all of us an excellent overview of the ecology of the lagoon and the mangrove swamps. We fed fish, found starfish, and wandered about in shallow water on a beautiful sandbar out in the middle of the lagoon. Then they transported us, via boat, about a mile offshore to High Cay, where we snorkeled in 86 degree F water for an hour or so. Wait, it gets even better! Our guides then dropped us off on this pristine little spit of sandy beach on High Cay where we were served a gourmet luncheon of grilled lobster, beef brochettes, chicken, several different fresh salads, all the wine and beer that you could drink. After lunch, rather than pack us up in the boat and back to Club Med, they simply let us frolic in the gin-clear water for a couple of hours (periodically refreshing our drinks too!). We arrived back at the resort about four p.m. as thoroughly satiated and relaxed as a person could be. Kudos to the our guides on the boat, and especially to the staff who prepared and served us that beautiful luncheon. We both highly recommend this excursion.

As I had been stationed on the island thirty-seven years previously while in the U.S. Coast Guard, my wife and I decide to see if we could get up to the north end of the island and see the old station and check out some of my old haunts. Mimi fixed us up with bicycles and off we went. Round-trip it was about 24 miles, so be sure to take cameras, swimwear, tennis shoes to ride in, and as much water as you can carry. We visited my old station--now a Bahamian high school--and then continued on to Dixon Hill Lighthouse. Definitely go to the lighthouse and climb to the top for spectacular views of much of the island.

We also want to call out the superb service we received from 'Mo-Mo' and Bryce and Evan at the 'Sailing Shack' down on the beach. These guys were fun to be with (day and night!), and made each and every day memorable with all kinds of water-sports activities. We sailed Hobie cats just about every day, and rarely did we have wait more than 5-10 minutes to pick a boat and get going. Bonefish Bay that fronts the resort has a huge area to sail, windsurf, kayak, or paddleboard in safely, and the guys are incredibly diligent in making sure that everyone is safe and sound and enjoying themselves. Good job, guys!

Finally, I do want to mention the overall condition and atmosphere of the resort. First, it is pin-neat. The staff seem to take a tremendous amount of pride in keeping the entire resort ship-shape, the landscape looking very smart and eco-friendly. The beach is beautiful beyond belief, and an absolute joy to spend time on. Make sure to pick up your clean beach towels and then go out early in the morning to set up your spot under one of the cabanas or umbrellas. I took four books and barely finished one, as there was simply too much fun stuff to do besides sitting around with my nose in a book!

In closing, we both know that we will be going back to Club Med Columbus Isle sooner rather than later. Club Med has created a patch of paradise on the island paradise of San Salvador, Bahamas. It was nothing short of magically enchanting for Susan and I. Thanks to Chef de Village, Charles, and all of his terrific staff for the great time and memories. We had a blast with each and every one of you! This place is a winner, and not to be missed.

My family spent a wonderful week here enjoying the Club Med experience. This was our 6th stay at a Club Med, but the first time at Columbus Isle. Since it is the only resort on the island, it relaxed-not a lot of people- just enough to make new friends from around the world. We sailed, snorkeled, paddle boarded, swam, danced, biked, did yoga and Pilates, water skied, went to the nightly shows, ate wonderful food. Charles, the chef du village was very gracious and attentive. The GO's were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and fun. My kids 14 & 17 participated in the Teen Club and felt warmly welcomed from the beginning to end. It was a great vacation and I cannot wait to go back. Sincerely, Stacey & Steve G.
