If you are looking for a beach resort with beautiful villas, wonderful staff and the most relaxing atmosphere this is the place. Beautiful beach on Emerald Bay, infinity pool, limited but great menu and again, I can't speak highly enough of the friendly, efficient staff in all areas of the Resort.

My wife and I recently spent a week here, actually 8 days, and we can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Only experienced the one bedroom villa and it was first rate.

We just returned from Grand Isle, where we spent 8 nights with another family. The hotel was extremely well-maintained - fresh, clean and very high-end. Our ultra-luxurious 3 bedroom villa overlooked Emerald Bay. The spa gave "the best massage ever" (in the words of a massage snob in our party). Emmerson and Justin at the beach and pool organized great activities for the younger guests. The food at the Palappa, the restaurant, was the best on the island (more on that below). Exuma is an amazing island, but only for those who like the simple pleasures of beautiful beaches, friendly people and sunny skies. There is limited dining, and nothing one could reasonably call fine dining, and almost no shopping opportunities. If quiet days and nights, beautiful turquoise water and white sand beaches are your idea of heaven, then Exuma is the place for you, and Grand Isle is the best place to stay on Exuma.

As a last minute getaway, we stayed at the Grand Isle Resort last week. Seeking relaxation, peace and quiet, the resort and it's tranquil settings delivered in a big way. If you are seeing a carefree vacation, this is the perfect destination!

Grand Isle Resort in Exuma was nothing short of luxurious. It offered the best accommodations I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. It's luxury villas were furnished with top of the line furniture and appliances. The grounds were immaculately groomed each day and the staff at the Grand Isle Resort were friendly and very helpful. (thank you Crystal, Linda, Justin and Emmerson for ALL of your efforts to make our stay fantastic).

The scenery is stunning. The ocean displays vibrant blues and turquoises that your HDTV will not be able to recreate! Sun rises and sunset's were stunning and you can enjoy them daily with very little traffic on the beaches.

The beach is shared with Sandals resort but, the Grand Isle Resort is by far superior!
Recreational equipment (snorkelling gear, kayaks, paddle boards, boogie boards, dvds, pool loungers, etc) were provided to guests and were in good repair.

The food at the poolside bar was prepared fresh and plentiful by chef Andrea!

Entertainment was arranged for guests (i.e. bon fires, yoga classes overlooking the ocean, musical entertainment in the evening) to create a friendly, enjoyable atmosphere.

This resort is a great place for families and/or couples to enjoy together and if I am fortunate enough to return, I would definitely do so.

Room Tip: Specify what you are looking for when booking and the staff will make every effort to accomodate you...

We stayed here mid-March for one week.. Two families of 3 booked through Air Canada Vacations. The property and villas were beautiful and well-maintained. The beach is gorgeous - Emerald Bay. It was great to have your own golf cart to explore the surrounding area as well. Your villa was tidied each day, beds made etc. That was a real treat as it felt like you were just checking in again! Staff were very friendly and very helpful. The resort didn't seem that busy as you could always get a lounge chair at the beach or poolside or a dinner reservation. Front staff were very helpful with respect to arranging taxis or car rentals or recommending boat tours etc. etc. I would definitely come to this resort again.

Room Tip: We had booked a 2bdrm ocean view and got a 3 bdrm ocean view. I think you will see the ocean regard...

We just got back from a week long stay at the Grand Isle Resort and Spa, and while we don't typically post reviews on Tripadvisor, we wanted to let other travellers know about this fabulous resort and also about Great Exuma.
We typically take a family beach vacation each year and have stayed on some great islands and in a variety of great hotels/resorts including the Fairmount Royal Pavillion in Barbados, the Sands in Turks and Caicos, Beaches in Negril, Jamaica and Elbow Beach in Bermuda. We also do a fair bit of business travel and have stayed in some great hotels in New York, San Fransico, and London. So in terms of rating the Grand Isle Resort, we can say that this resort is fabulous by any standards.
First, the resort itself. The build quality of the villas (which was built by the Four Seasons before it was sold through a receivership) is second to none in the Carribean and on par with any Four Seasons Resort Villas that you would find in North America. It has a very large infinity pool which is located just steps to a secluded 2 kilometre horseshoe shaped beach.
The resort provides kayaks, snorkel equipment, beach toys, etc. for no charge to guests of the resort. You can snorkel right off the beach as I did, and as you would expect in the Bahamas, the fish and coral are spectacular. I swam through a school of about 100 fish 50 feet from shore on my first day.
You can also golf on the Greg Norman golf course which is located adjacent to the resort along the coastline. The golf course is owned and operated by the nearby Sandals Resort, which was also part of the original Four Seasons development, so the course is practically part of the Grand Isle Resort. I golfed the course once and it was a great course; the back nine a bit more challenging than the front nine with some spectacular views of the ocean.
The fitness facilities and spa, which my wife used, are also excellent.
The resort restaurant is situated by the pool with good views of the ocean. We ate lunches and dinners there, as well as ordering in food to our 2 bedroom villa. Both the food and the service were very good. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and overall there was a really good vibe at the resort.
We also bought food and wine at Exuma Markets in Georgetown and a nearby wine store that you can get to with your golf cart. We found everything we needed to prepare some delicious meals for our family. The wine selection included some great wines, some brunello's and supertuscans, some great Calfiornia cabs, so we got to enjoy some great bottles during our stay.
Getting around the resort was easy and fun as each villa had its own four seater golf cart. We had a great time driving around the resort with our kids aged 4, 2 and 1. My four year old learned some basic steering skills, at low speed of course.
Finally, the resort pool/bar/restaurant area and all of the villas have high speed wireless so our ipad and laptop worked well whether lounging around the pool or in our villa. Cell coverage was also very good on the resort and off.
Now about Great Exuma. We ventured off the resort to do a full day trip with Capt. Jerry Lewless through the cays. We took our two young boys with us and had a spectacular day stopping on secluded beaches, grabbing lunch on Farmers Cay at a beach bar we had all to ourselves, feeding the iguanas, seeing starfish, stingrays, and other sealife. The highlight was a stop we made on a large sandbar about a kilometer offshore the nearest cay. Our tour guide advised us that Penelope Cruz actually got married on the sandbar and I can understand why as it was quite magical. We arrived at high tide so there was just a short washing of water over the sand bar, just enough to tickle you toes as you walked along this mile long piece of paradise sipping a kalik and trying to remember what day it was.
We also took a day trip to Georgetown, then Stocking Island, to hang out at the Chat "n" Chill beach bar and play on the beach with the friendly stringrays. Very relaxing and mellow way to spend an afternoon.
Overall, Great Exuma is like the Turks and Caicos was a few years ago before it became a bit overdeveloped. Plus it has 365 cays (little islands) which are extraordinary. So we would highly recommend this resort and this island for anyone looking for a relaxing (and if you venture to the cays, adventurous) vacation at a very high end and well managed resort. If you are looking to buy a vacation property, whether it be fractional ownership or full, this resort has to be one of the best investments in the carribean/bahamas that you could make.

We've spent a week in a different resort every year in the Caribbean and Mexico and have found the one we'll just keep going back to.

What my wife and I liked about Grand Isle was:

1. My wife swam off the beach four times a day and she thinks every beach is beyond belief – and she’s a connoisseur of beaches! We think these are the best beaches in the world. And the infinity pool is warm….
2. There is a quiet tranquility to a place with only 72 villas. The verandah overlooking the water is a comfortable shady place to play Scrabble and read;
3. We like feeling pampered in luxury accommodations, although we walked instead of using our personal golf cart;
4. While we don’t golf, it’s surrounded by a Greg Norman golf course, and some of our family do golf;
5. While we’re vegan and I like to cook, the poolside bar and grill chef and staff made it a very nice place to hang out and eat (at reasonable prices);
6. Each villa has its own router and the latest 3G Internet service. It’s VERY high speed; and
7. It will be a perfect place for our annual Caribbean family week (there’s lots of free snorkelling and kayaking gear and a boat ride through the Exuma Cays and exploring many spectacular deserted beaches for shells on Grand Exuma.

My daughter and I stayed for a week in a one bed condo here. We loved the quiet beauty of Exuma & having a well equipped flat was perfect for us.
You don't go to Exuma for the food but the market in George Town has everything you need for good home cooking. The drink store nearby was excellent with plenty of good wine choice. Renee at reception did everything she could to ensure we had a great time - thank you. The staff were all very good.

Loved visiting Stocking for Chat & Chill & the trip to the legendary grill pit on Little Exuma.
We went on a private boat trip with Captain Patterson, who sent us off with Captain Andrew - wouldn't waste the money for a private trip again - you still see all the spots with other tour boats & although we asked for some fishing - we didnt get any. Captain Andrew was a nice guy & did his best but we went on a windy day - against my better judgement- and the scuba at the Thunderball grotto was not really safe because of a strong current. Do go on a quiet day with a group - its a wonderful trip.
We were let down by Airport Hire cars - ordered a jeep & when we went to collect we were given a Rav - he promised the Jeep the next morning after charging me $750 - but another excuse so we hired a jeep from Don's. This vehicle had seen better days - the seat belt sprang loose on bumps & the fan stopped working. I think hire car charges on Exuma are very high for such poor cars.
We went to 'Catch a Fire' on Wednesday night - very pleasant.
The colour of the sea & the perfect weather on Exuma will be long remembered back here in grey UK!
