Peter and Betty are the best hosts you can imagine , nothing is too much trouble for them . the taxi they arranged was waiting for us as promised ,we had a lovely warm welcome on arrival and they gave us loads of information on exuma .we didn`t have a hire car and the shop was a 10 minute walk away so Peter took us and waited while we shopped so he could bring all our heavy goods back in the car . the apartment was very spacious and extremely clean . i have never seen such a well equipped holiday rental .the property is near the most wonderful beach ( 5 minute walk ) and within a 10 minute drive of george town .i would recommend this property to anyone going to exuma , they made our holiday very special and we can`t wait to go back .

WE stayed at the B and B last month and from the moment we arrived peter went out of his way for us - drove us to a restaurant on our first night as we didn't arrive until late, gave us great advice and recommendations for activities and places to eat and visit, called people with us so we didn't have to interrupt our day to find wifi, was brilliantly flexible with car hire and generally made sure that we made the most of our stay. Woke up every morning to the sound of the seas - bliss! thank you!

We highly recommend Coral Gardens if you're visiting the beatiful Exumas!! Hosts Betty & Peter are warm, knowledgeable, very helpful and strike the right balance of providing information and support to the extent desired on any given day.

We traveled as a vacationing couple, and loved the studio apartment attached to their Coral Gardens house and B&B. It was fully private, quiet, peaceful, and had enough space to spread out a bit and have a relaxed week. Nice King bed, small but full kitchen for cooking as desired throughout the week, and good location with walking distance to lovely Hooper's Bay beach.

Renting a car through Peter is a no-brainer, easy, and very necessary to explore the area fully. We stayed 8 nights, which seemed just about perfect with enough time to get out on the water, do some kayaking, snorkeling, enjoy some great beach time, meet locals, and enjoy a few excursions. Those who try to explore any of the Out Islands for just a few days are missing out. A week allows more time to slow down, explore, experience much more and soak it up.

The one disappointment we had was visibility and weather for snorkeling. Our trip landed during some rainy, cloudy days, but Peter was very helpful in trying to anticipate weather patterns to plan our day trips around Mother Nature! We were still able to accomplish what we had anticipated, but missed the bright sun and clear water that would have really lit up the fish. But our days were still very much enjoyed, beautiful and memorable.

Coral Gardens is great for self-sufficient travelers who aren't looking for fancy resorts or luxury experiences but want a sense of comfy home. It's a very relaxing, quiet, peaceful place, well-appointed and tastefully pulled together, and very pleasant to come back to after a day on the beach. The screened windows allow a nice breeze and we were always very comfortable, without needing to turn on the air conditioner.

Peter's recommendations for where to go, what to do, where to eat, etc. are spot on, so be sure to consult with him as you narrow down what you'd like to do.

And don't miss the best fresh lobster...be sure to visit Dee at Santana's! We loved it so much we went there twice. And right next store her mom at Mom's Bakery makes a lovely rum cake, which we also enjoyed over a few nights back at our apartment. For beaches: we really loved Cocoplum particularly. But you can't go wrong with tropical sand and truly turquoise water; there are several nice beaches to explore driving in both directions on Great and Little Exuma.

Tip: definitely take and use bug spray--bugs do come out at dawn/dusk, and if you're out at that time you'll be glad you have it.

Thanks to Peter & Betty and Coral Gardens and the beautiful Exumas-we'll enjoy our memories for years to come, and we are so pleased our trip planning research led us there!

T&M,

You were truly lovely guests and as experienced travelers, your comments about your stay are particularly valuable for others who may be thinking of a visit to Exuma.

Both Betty and I try our best to ensure that our guests enjoy the holiday they wish to experience, but unfortunately we could not control the damp weather that affected some of your days!!

Best wishes, many thanks and good traveling in the future,

Peter and Betty--Owners

My boyfriend and I spent 6 night at Coral Gardens, in the studio. It was perfect. The place is beautiful, near the beach. We had a really great time, and we could really relax. Peter, the owner, is so nice. We arrived on a Sunday and he bought us food so we would have something to eat on our arrival. He took the time to show us the different places on the map. He really made our vacation perfect. Please go to Exuma, and please go to Coral Gardens!
Thank you Peter, from Karine and Jean-François.

And we miss you too !!!
You were both lovely guests and we very much enjoyed you staying here at Coral Gardens.
We usually find that our Canadian guests, with the direct Air Canada flight from Toronto,"discover" Exuma and as we are only 10 minutes from the Georgetown airport they are able to be on the beach and in the sea(currently 29*) very soon after arrival.
We hope that you can come back soon to further enjoy our sunshine and sea.
Best wishes,

My son and I stayed at Coral Gardens at the beginning of July. After a frustrating trip into Exuma (delayed flights, mechanical issues etc...), Peter was nice enough to have a cab waiting for us when we arrived at the airport. Once we got to Coral Gardens, we were at home. Peter is a pro at making sure that he helps you at the level that you would like. Want to spend the week in solitude and just have fresh towels everyday? No problem. On the other end of the spectrum, want to sit down with Peter every morning for advice on what to do that day? He is willing to spend as much time with you as you would like. Hemade phone calls for us, check into tours, even called restaurants to confirm when they were open. He was so helpful with dinner suggestions, activity suggestions, calling a cab when we needed one, even loaning us a mask and snorkel for the week so my son could search for fish when we were at the beach.
We had the king bed room which was perfect for us. We had a fan for the cool nights and an air conditioner for the hot afternoons. The bed was comfortable, the room always spotless clean, the bathroom was small but met all of our needs. We had free WiFi in the room which was fast, except in the evening when it got a little slower. Having free WiFi in the room was a live saver!
The house sits a little way away from beach but the walk is easy and along a road with no traffic (important since I was walking there with my young son). The beach was unbelievable, truly. We literally sat on the beach for 9 hours one day (under a beautiful pine tree) and saw only on other person. Peter gave us some tips on where to find fish and possibly turtles.
Breakfast was always filling with several options of cereal, fresh fruits with bread (often locally made bread. we even had coconut bread one morning) with a variety of jellys and butters. We never left hungry!
Communication with Peter was always fast and professional. Right up to the day we arrive, he was always quick to respond to all of my (many) emails, answering all my quesitons, even when they didn't have anything to do with my stay there (I had some scuba diving questions).
The house and the location (really the whole isalnd) is completely safe. You don't get a key, the door is never locked. We left our bedroom door open everyday without even a worry.
I could not have thought up a better place to stay. Peter truly made us feel like family.
My only wish was that we could have had access to a microwave and some silverware. I know that some of Peter accommodations have them but ours didn't. (We did end us just asking Peter for some spoons and he was quick to get them for us!) Just as there is no fast food, no pizza delivery, there were nights when we would just eat dinner in the room (Peter can let you know where the grocery store is). Having a microwave would have been great.
That being said, if we ever go back to Exuma, no doubt in my mind, we will stay at Coral Gardens (or maybe one of his houses on the beach!).
I agree with a previous review. If you want glitz, a spa, room service and a variety of souvenir shops, this is not the place for you. If you want a homebase where you feel safe, relaxed, content from which you can base all your activities, Coral Gardens is for you!
Peter, thank you for meeting our needs and exceeding our expectations. You helped make our vacation more than we ever thought it would be.

We were truly touched by this wonderful Review for not only the comments but also knowing that you are experienced world travellers and are in a senior position with a luxury international hotel group. You were great guests and we enjoyed you staying with us.
We always like to learn from comments and suggestions ,and as our guests often like to use the Breakfast Room in the evening for snacks or relaxing ,so we will be adding a microwave to complement the existing refrigerator for guests use.

Best wishes and happy global journeys,

Betty & Peter Oxley---Owners

My girlfriend and I were lucky enough to spend a week here last June and I can't even express how great of a place Coral Gardens is. Peter was more than accomodating. Literally, any type of information that you may need to have the time of your life is at your finger tips. When you stay at this place, you're not just getting a bed to sleep, but a knowledgable concierge who is willing to make sure you have the perfect vacation. Just to give you an idea of what to expect when booking this B&B, I'll list our experience...

We contacted Peter and Betty months ahead of time to book our stay and all the way up until our flight to Exuma they answered any and all of my questions (we're the "planner" type if you can't tell). Whether it be questions about weather, tours, boat rentals, best beaches, snorkeling, etc., we had the answer. When we arrived, we felt very comfortable about the place due to this. As we arrived, Peter had arranged a taxi to bring us to the B&B. The fare was around $25, I forget the exact amount. While at the B&B, we realized that we had made a mistake with our booking. There are two properties, one named Coral Gardens (which is a B&B a few blocks from the beach) and Coral Sands (the one on the beach). We wanted the one on the beach, but I was confused with the booking and booked the wrong one. Luckily, Peter was more than willing to fix this problem and ended up letting us stay at Coral Sands for the week (very nice of him).

As far as the properties, both Coral Sands and Coral Gardens are so unique! They did such a great job with the landscaping. Plants are everywhere and it gives it a wonderful, oasis feel. While at the B&B going over places to see/ things to do with Peter, we even saw a humming bird feeding by a plant near the porch. Such a great and beauitful place. The rooms were exactly as described and Peter even took the time to get groceries for us since we arrived on Sunday and the store closes early that day. For Coral Sands, the house is amazing. We stayed in a self-sufficient type apartment which had its own kitchen and bathroom. Everything was clean and we had no problems. The house was big and had plenty of rooms, but we were the only ones there for the week so Peter said we could use the balcony above us. What a view that was. Hooper's Bay, which is the beach that is about 30 yards from the house, is stunning. After Tropic of Cancer Beach, this is the best beach in Exuma. There are even sea turtles that nest in the bay behind the house (they loved eating squid out of our hands, but watch your fingers!).

We also rented a car from Peter which worked out great. Renting a car is a must, trust me. The car provided was similar to the Toyota 4-Runner (I forget the specific car, it was shipped in from Japan). We got to see so much thanks to having a car and having Peter tell us what to check out. Some things that I recommend as a "must-see" or "must do" are Catch a Fire restaurant (try to go there when there is live music on Wed and Sat nights...this place is stunning), tour of the cays through Four C's, Tropic of Cancer Beach, Santana's, renting a boat from Minn's and exploring the harbour (we only did this for one day, wish we would have done this for at least 2 days), and just exploring in general. If you're worried about Exuma being too small with not enough to do, think again. This place is unique in so many ways. The people there have a mindset that I've never encountered before in my life. Everyone there is so friendly and willing to help you and anyone else they may encounter. I never felt worried or unsafe the entire time I was there. You'll leave Exuma with a new perspective on how people are SUPPOSED to interact. The people there live day by day and are genuinely happy. There's no obsession with having the best car or having the most money. They live to live, and we certainly appreciated that lifestyle! I remember landing in Atlanta after our flight home from Exuma and immediately feeling the stress and hustle of the U.S. again as I walked through the terminal. Go to this place and stay at Coral Gardens. It's something you'll be happy you did and you'll have great memories that will last a lifetime!

Thank you Peter and I hope Betty is doing better! We will be back soon.
Ryan and Sheena

P.S. I added some of my pictures that I took while there. Many of them are edited, so I apologize if anyone was looking for raw images!

When we receive a report such as yours, we are truly grateful for the time and trouble you took to fully describe your visit to Exuma. The variety of activities and places you mentioned will also certainly help others who may be thinking of visiting the Bahamas.
You were both lovely guests and we trust that your medical studies and careers develop well in the next few years.Hopefully we can welcome you both again sometime in the future-either to Exuma or to our Sunset Beach ,Long Island location.

We've been in Bahamas & Exumas before, but this stay in Coral Gardens was special. We were there for 3 nights, before getting aboard a sailboat up to NY, USA, so these 3 nights were important for us to get rest.

Peter & Betty were welcoming from the start, offering all required information on Georgetown area, making our stay as confortable & enjoyfull as possible. Room was clean, fresh (windows' brease) and larger than expected (from the site). Being away of Georgetown noise was marvelous for us to rest, and the nearby beach (10 minutes walk) was as peacefull most of the Exumas.

As Peter said, if you want Sandal, it's up north of the island (or anywhere on the globe). If you want tranquility and Exumas' pease, CORAL GARDEN is the best.

Thank you to Peter & Betty,
