“Beautiful Resort & Beach”
Reviewed March 5, 2013

Villa room was gorgeous - step right out onto the Beach with private hammock. Beach is small but beautiful - white sand & clear blue water. Butler service is amazing. Food is good. Very very relaxing.

This is a second visit to a Sandals. We once again upgraded to butler level and booked a 1 BD unit. We are older, wealthier, don't drink alcohol and are used to top quality food. This Sandals resort does not give any perks for butler level guests other than free golf. We were not contacted from the butler staff until 3 days before we were due to arrive. I pointed out 2 things. 1. We were arriving around 12 noon and needed to have the room ready because of health and lack of sleep, 2. My husband is allergic to feathers. We arrived in Great Exuma and were quickly taken to the resort. We were met and told to hang out as the room was not ready and was not due to be ready for hours. After waiting about 30 minutes and finally demanding a room we were given a villa on the beach. It was a nice location but not a 1BD unit. It was made up with feathers so housekeeping had to change it out. The location is beautiful and the resort is fine. The main problem is the food. It is all cheap quality not prepared very well. The buffet foods are subpar. The French Onion soup at the French restaurant tasted like dish water with cheap bread and cheese floating in it. The beef filet was not Filet Mignon. We were with a group and had to argue with the staff to get menus one night because they wanted to serve a set menu that was not ordered. The spa and golf course are great. We were generally ignored the whole visit until time to leave. I said something to the girl at reception about how affluent we and the others in the group are (35 people) and all of a sudden everyone from the manager on down were paying attention to us until our taxi arrived. The group is now planning next year's trip........

Room Tip: If you want to be on the beach you will need to book a butler level villa.

If you are looking for a place that is absolutely stunning and beautiful and non-commercialized, this is the place to go. The resort was beautiful, the mile long cresent moon beach was beyond words. The staff was terrific and beyond friendly. This was the place to truly go for rest and relaxation. Never had a problem finding places at the pool or the beach. Food was great overall and plenty of choices even for those with ordinary tastes and the service was outstanding. Had our wedding there and all the details were looked after well in advance. You have your choice of quiet and intimate or big and elaborate. The wedding staff will look after it all with simple instruction from you. No matter what you are there for, ALL the staff will look after you and get you whatever you need. Well worth the trip and this is our 4th Sandals Resort.

Room Tip: I don't believe there is a bad room in the place. All rooms have some view of the ocean (althou...

My wife and I just returned from Sandals Emerald Bay on March 2nd. We had a great week. First of all the resort is laid out very well and its easy to figure out where you are going or simply where you want to spend the rest of your lazy day....whether down at one of the best beaches and swimming areas, at the main pool or the quiet pool. We were fortunate enough to have one of the base Butler rooms and while I did not think it was necessary, it sure was a welcome and appreciated experience.
Beach: quite possibly second to none if you are looking for exquisite sand, beautiful water and lovely views. (Note: on some days some people found the sand fleas a little bothersome but that's remedied with some bug spray which the hotel had in our room (bonus!) On our week the beach was never busy. The hotel beach has some nice small palupa's, plus some larger raised ones. They also have some sort of folding sun coverups. With the Butler service we were able to request that our Butler lay out our stuff on a palupa first thing in the morning (early). Bonus...we got to go straight to breakfast and we didn't have to worry about rushing down to the beach to find / reserve one.
Pools: we personally didn't spend a lot of time in the pools(we're beach people) but they were very nice and seemed to be well kept. Lots of places to sit. Some covered areas and over at the quiet pool the covered areas even had ceiling fans.
Rooms: We were in section 2 on the third floor. It was nice because it was close to everything and we always ask for the third or highest floor as we find it quieter. This section however is quite close to some of the nightly entertainment and celebrating that goes on so it can be a little noisy up until about 10:30 - 11pm. Downside to our room was that the roof line didn't cover the balcony so in the morning even if it didn't rain the morning dew would run off the roof and soak our balcony and chairs. Lots of closet space. Nice if not spectacular sitting area but then again we use the room to sleep. We go south to hang out in the sun and warmth, not hide in our rooms.
Restaurants: The food was very good. There was a good selection(French, Italian, Beach, Gastro English Pub, Buffet, Pizza Place and French Bistro Bakery). Our favorites were most likely the Italian and the Buffet. Food was good everywhere but there was a disconnect at a few locations between the time the orders came in to how or how long it took to serve them. This is not a reflection on the quality of the food or the staff (because they tried) but there were some issues getting the food served promptly. Hint: coat yourself in bug spray in the evenings if you are going to the Barefoot Beach restaurant.
Alcohol: There was NO shortage of options or serving sizes. You will not accuse this location of watering down the drinks. I was even able to find my Crown Royal which I can almost never get when at other resorts. The Beringer wines are the "Stone Cellar" version of Beringer. They are ok and definitely better than what you get at most resorts but if you are picky about your wines you may opt to walking across the street from the resort and going to the "Duty Free" shop and bringing back some better selections. The hotel has some nice options but like most places the prices are too high.
Staff: Most if not all try harder than almost anywhere we have traveled and we loved their efforts! Special mention to our Butlers but in particular Arielle who ALWAYS had a smile on her face. Also, how many resorts have you been to where the General Manager meets you at the airport and then again is there to say goodbye and thank you. Thanks Jeremy Mutton, nice touch!
Gym: one of the best equipped of the dozens of resorts (4+ & 5 star) we have visited and it was barely used while we were there. We loved it!
Golf: I consider myself a good if not very good golfer and striker of the ball. The course was challenging but not out of control. Keep it straight or pay the price! My only suggestion would be that they need to have the first tee times earlier. 8am is too late. I as well as many others I spoke to would have preferred 7am.
Red Lane Spa: it seemed well equipped and the staff were nice. My wife really enjoyed her massage.
Tours: Do your research. The ones offered at the resort are very good however sometimes double or more the price of other tour operators on the Island.

Room Tip: Take lots of Bug Spray and Sun Tan Lotion. The costs for these on the resort is exorbitant.

If you've read any bad reviews, do not believe them! We were there Feb 8-16th. The weather was perfect. Fast check in at the concierge lounge. Every employee I passed by everyday said hello and were very pleasant. I was sick one day and they called later to check up on me. They were very accommodating here. I do not have one bad thing to say about this resort. When we were at the returning guest dinner, my husband told the head of housekeeping he wanted some chocolate in his room and when we got back to our room...it was there. We had turn down every night we weren't in our room and if we were in our room, we chose not to have it but they asked if we needed anything. A shout out to Sauna, Steve, Georgette and Vanrae who makes the best martini ever! Food was good, drinks were great. Entertainment was okay. It was nice sitting around the firepits at night listening to music or seeing an outdoor movie. It is a little quieter here than some of the other resorts but there was a mixed variety of ages but probably a larger amount over 50. Only suggestion I did have to staff was that they need a small bar and grill on the beach and more chairs. The beach is beautiful but not many people on it because chairs were sparse and not too many palapas. Gorgeious turquoise water. Loved this place.

Room Tip: We had the lower cost concierge room and they were quite nice. Large with table & chairs. A com...

If what is important to you is peace and quiet just to get away from it all, a wonderful beach that is a well kept, clean and beautiful property along with an easy commute through the Exuma airport, customs and then on to Sandals Exuma property, then this is the place for you. If you are looking to party, have lots of entertainment options, with a loud raucous swim up bar and bars/clubs that are open till 2,3, 4 am on property (or close by) then this is not the place for you.

I could go on forever about this trip but the bottom line is I do not have a single thing negative to say. (and that is saying something coming from a fan of Philadelphia sports teams :) Yes, it might be windy at some point, yes you might not be able to use all the water sports equipment, yes it might even rain but the service is wonderful. The food is good overall and there are plenty of options any day or time of the week. If your expectation is the level of food will be a that of a top notch steakhouse then you will be disappointed.

This is our 3rd trip to a Sandals resort (Whitehouse & Royal Caribbean) and each property has it's own personality, vibe and culture. We are people that like remoteness, great beaches, nice property, easy to travel too, different dining options with overall very good/great reviews. If you look for similar things in your trips then Sandals Exuma should definitely be on your list.

Room Tip: If you are considering Butler or no Butler definitely go with the butler they will make all the diff...

Never did an all inclusive resort before, had low expectations. We were wrong; this one was over the top in service and beauty. We know why the beach is called Emerald Bay, it was gorgeous. Expected to see an age population of all 20+ people; not the case, this was our 48th wedding anniversary, we are very young-at-heart....and we had plenty of company! Will go back, we have been all over this earth on many wonderful trips;however, for some romance this was perfect!
