I had the opportunity to stay in the Exumas at Sampson Cay in October 2012, the staff including management, chefs, store clerk and waiters/waitresses were gracious and accommodating. I was very impressed with the quality of food, housing and customer care. I wish I could go back every year! I viewed all the properties on the island but stayed in the Maine House, it had beautiful views. The island is small but full of beauty and thanks to the staff made for an excellent vacation! Thank you Sampson Cay!! - Nikki Schwab

We spent a week in the marina and had an incredible time. The marina store had the best selection of produce we could find in the Exumas! The marina was clean and well maintained. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Thanks to Mike (the manager) and Cathy (his wife) for snorkeling tips and overall great customer service. The island is beautiful with pristine beaches and reefs to explore. We will definitely come back again.

We have docked in this marina many times and so far this year have spent more than 3 weeks in cumulative nights. Everyone is so very helpful and any request we have had has been met in a timely manner and exceptionally. The dock masters, Fly and Rock are right on it, well informed and always within reach. The marina basin is an excellent port in the storm and well protected. The vivacious, sweet, sensational Sanya announces lunch daily on the radio and the restaurant is all she touts it to be. Mike and Cathy were attentive to our needs, friendly and made us feel very comfortable. We absolutely love this island. It is beautiful, the sand flats at low tide shimmer, the beaches (plural) are pristine and show many different vistas and there is always a breeze on one. The hiking trails are a highlight for us,as it is not always easy to get exercise on a boat. These trails around the island are scenic, interesting, different levels of challenge and just plain fun.
Wonderful island, marina and people. We love to "base" our Exuma cruising at Sampson each year. We will be back !

We docked for five nights at Sampson Cay and found it the most beautiful island in the Exumas. We had great service from Mike and Cathy who were fun, forward, and conscientious of making sure all guests were respected and provided for. We fed nurse sharks off the dock, swam with them around the island, and explored the many hidden beaches scattered throughout the little island. In addition, I was able to run the many paths every morning -- never missing a day of exercise. The island was very quiet and provided a nice escape from our days of snorkeling and exploring. We really enjoyed our stay.

We had a great daytrip out of the northern Exuma town of Barre Terre with Capt. Bob Smith of Coastline Adventures, but this is where Bob brought us for lunch.
The place felt like a clip joint for people for whom money is not an object. Main course Catch of the Day is $18, with no sides whatsoever. Listed as Blackened Snapper, it is indeed fresh and tasty, but only lightly seasoned with spices...not what I expected. It's served in a paper plate like what they'd give you in a takeout place, and as I said, devoid of anything other than the fish itself. Want some rice with that? That'll be another four dollars.
Gratuity is automatically added at 20%, whereas every other place we visited that included gratuity adds 15%. Want to use your credit card? They'll hit you for another 5% on top of that.
Want to complain to the cashier at the checkout? You'll get no word of apology, but she'll try to tell you that 20% is standard in Exuma.
Capt. Smith was unaware of the issues because the place is too expensive for him and his mate Liz to eat at himself; they wait outside. But he was grateful to be told about them.
Considering that he brings a boatload of people along (11 in our group), they should feed him and his mate. Or better yet, Capt. Bob should take his guests elsewhere.

I visited in August 2012 and stayed on my brothers boat. Since there were 3 other boats in our party we had a nice time among ourselves. I understood that the billionaire John Malone owned the little cay. So we were all surprised at the lack of service in the restruant. What was offered simply was not worth eating at any price. While it may be hard to care about a group of yacht owners concerns it was inconvenient to say the least to take the center console over to Staniel Cay for breakfast, lunch and a decent bar scene. So, after a few nights we all left and docked at Staniel Cay. Sampson island is a more protected harbor and the beach is nice. Since our group regularly visits the area for a couple of months each summer I have to assume that the operators were experiencing some unusual problems that summer. The optional ratings below really do not apply since we slept on our own yachts and prepared our meals in our salon. But the accommodations did not appear to be worth the posted prices on their website.
