On 16 August, we opted for Ray’s half-day tour and it was without a doubt worth every penny and minute spent! With the soul of the Bahamas in his blood, Ray was a natural guide, expertly piloting his boat while delivering a visually stunning, informative, and laid-back tour.
Over the course of four hours, we made multiple stops to admire the unmatched beauty of the region, visit the pigs and the iguanas, and snorkel the reefs. These activities are all as endearing as you might imagine, and we can vouch that the other reviewers’ enthusiasm is wholly warranted: if you do one activity while visiting Exuma, we highly recommend this be it. You will not be disappointed but you will leave with amazing memories.
The boat was uncovered that day, so we were glad to bring hats and dry-fit clothes to combat the sun. Regardless, bringing extra sun block is essential, as is remembering to re-apply it, because you’ll be in the direct sun for hours and hopping in and out of the water. Ray provided some light snacks and refreshments to which you could help yourself anytime, but if you need to eat something more substantial than some biscuits over the course of four hours, you’ll want to bring some extra food. Finally, you can bring your own snorkel gear but keep in mind there is limited storage on the boat, so leave at least your fins at home. In addition to offering full snorkeling gear, Ray also provides pool noodles to help you stay afloat when snorkeling, which was a godsend for a buoyantly-challenged person like me.
Another accessory I cannot recommend enough is a waterproof bag/case for your camera: it lets you use your camera worry-free in and around the water. Being able to splash around with the pigs and capture the stunning underwater beauty of the reef was a real treat.
To summarize, if you don’t take Ray’s tour, you’ll miss out on the best of what the region (or at least Exuma) has to offer.
