Yes, the ocean is gorgeous.

Yes, the views are amazing.

Yes, the service is awesome.

Yes, they give you a boat to use during your stay.

...but for the price you are paying, and for a Sandals resort, there can be a few areas of improvements.

For example, the villa is a little dated (and in need of some maintenance - during our 1 week stay, we had problems with the air conditioning, doors sticking, and a door knob falling off), the food is average at best (definitely not worth the $100 per person price tag for those coming to the resort to dine), and there are aspects of the resort that have been poorly maintained (for example, great Schwinn bikes provided, but they obviously have not been well-taken care of - rust, slimy debris on handlebars, and horrible, squeaky brakes).

That said, there are some good things to say about the place too. I cannot stress how wonderful the staff here have been. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Our host, Lisa-Ann, was amazing. The boat is great to have and handles nicely. The location of the resort is pretty convenient - 5 min boat ride to Staniel Cay, minutes away from tourist spots like Thunderball Grotto and Major Spot, and tons of sea life nearby. (spotted: starfish, nurse sharks, sting rays, barracudas, and lots of other fish) You have the option of a packed lunch to take out each day if you're going out on your boat. For those that like fishing, fishing equipment and bait are provided. Decent fishing spots are nearby. The villa is pretty well stocked with food and beverages. The beds are extremely comfortable.

Bring mosquito repellent. Even though we had our windows and doors closed, we still had a problem with mosquitoes flying around inside the house.

Resort activities include: bike riding, tennis (rackets and balls provided; there is 1 children's racket), paddle boarding (just 1 - the other is broken), and kayaking. Indoor activities at the Hill House include pool, darts, chess, checkers and other games. There is a small collection of books and DVDs in the Hill House.

There is a small pool located behind the Hill House. (note: pool too small for laps) Inside the Hill House, there is a tiny little gym consisting of a LifeFitness treadmill, elliptical, and a few weights. Bring either reading material or your MP3 player when you go work out. The TV in there was not working for my entire stay.

Free wifi available, although it can be a bit slow. DirecTV available. Full cable provided.

Toiletries provided: Molton Brown brand (never heard of it, but it's quite nice!) shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, bar soap, and shaving kit.

Fowl Cay Resort is as unique as it gets. All travel in the Exuma chain is by boat and Fowl Cay is no exception. The resort itself is situated on a 50 acre island just north of Staniel Cay the closest air strip and village within 60 miles. Fowl Cay takes you to a place where you experience true island living with a luxurious twist the accomodations are excellent and the food is fresh and delicious. The fact that everything is surrounded by beautiful blue/green water so all activities revolve around being in the ocean and the fact that you can see 50 feet under water and no water in the area is over 40 feet deep makes for spectacular sites of fish and wildlife.

Stayed here in June briefly as we were on a boat anchored off shore from Fowl Cay. Spent 6 weeks in the Bahama's and this was the only five star experience that we had off the boat. Lovely grounds, people, food, dining room - WOW! It was a great way to bring in my birthday this year and will not be forgotten! Hope to go back next year!

This was our second trip to Fowl Cay, staying in the Lindon house. Our second stay was even better than the first, if that is even possible (see our review from May of 2011). On our second night, my husband looked at me and said ‘Why do we go anywhere else?’ – this from a person who always wants to try somewhere new. We usually take 3 sun/fun vacations per year and like to try different properties, but Fowl Cay tops them all.

We really felt like we were coming home when we arrived via seaplane on Saturday the 6th (If you are traveling with less than 4 people and a small amount of luggage make sure to check out Safari Seaplanes run by Paul and Suzanne Harding – it is an awesome experience). Hugs and warm greetings all around. The team (feels more like family) on the island is still basically the same, which was good to see, as they are all fantastic.

We were quickly shown to Lindon house, and it was just as we remembered it, with a few nice updates including new cookware and dishes (not that it matters that much, since we were only cooking breakfast).

The views from the patio at Lindon are truly some of the best ocean views ever. You can walk down the stairs to the beach and go directly into the water. The last hurricane eroded some of the North Beach but you can still get into the water pretty easily, and at low tide you have a bit of beach.

A boat is included with your villa, after a checkout ride with Yves, you are pretty much free to go where you want, when you want. Lisa Ann will pack you a marvelous picnic lunch to take on your boat (or you can chose to dine at Hill House on the island for lunch).

Every morning we had leisurely coffee on the patio and watched the sunrise, made breakfast and then headed out for the day. This year we decided to spend a day on the island itself (instead of always racing out on the boat). We enjoyed hanging out at the south beach, trying out the kayaks, paddle boards and the bocce ball.

We also decided to hire a captain for a half day to take us further North than we were comfortable going. It was nice to have someone else who knew the area, the tides, etc. to take us up the aquarium and other areas for snorkeling. Wayland was our captain for the day. He is one of the team at Fowl Cay and a former Sandals butler, so the experience was wonderful. He took us out to the aquarium at just the right time (slack tide) for snorkeling, then we went to see Johnny Depp’s island (not really star-gazers, but it was neat to see how the celebrities live), snorkeled at the coral gardens, then took a dip in Rachel’s bubble bath and finished the day with a picnic on a secluded beach. Wayland joined us for snorkeling and pointed out many fish (and a huge stingray buried in the sand) that we may not have seen had he not been with us. For our lunch at the beach, his butler skills took over and he spread out our picnic, poured our beverages and then quietly stepped away to the boat so that we could have some privacy. We finished with a quick stop to see the swimming pigs (they are so close to Fowl Cay, you can stop every day on the way home). It was a great day!

Every evening at Fowl Cay can be different, depending on the guests on the island and if off-islanders come over for dinner. It is really great to have a cocktail and chat with the other quests (or the dinner guests from the nearby yachts) to hear of everyone’s adventures for the day. You can be as social as you want, or if you want privacy, there are plenty of spots at Hill House where you can just sit quietly and enjoy a cocktail and the sunset. Dinners were always delicious with a choice of two different entrees. You can never go wrong the locally caught fish (in Wisconsin it is difficult to get fresh fish), but the meat entrées are also delicious. One night I had the veal chop (yes I know incredibly politically incorrect), and it was by far and away the best chop I have ever eaten. Chef Tony was filling in while we were there (Chef George was there last year, but he needed to return home and spend some time with his family). He did a great job on all the meals.

We were celebrating my birthday, so of course there was a cake, singing and many hugs. That afternoon, while I was taking a nap in the hammock at Lindon house, my husband quietly went out to the office and booked us for next year for my birthday as well! When we returned home, we decided ‘why go anyplace else’ and also booked for my birthday in 2014.

So we will be having a reunion with our ‘family’ at Fowl Cay (Yves, Marta, Grant, Nicole, Lisa Ann, Wayland and Ruby the wonder dog) in another years time.

The only problem with writing this review is that Fowl Cay will get even harder to book!!!! But how can I NOT write a review??? This is a magical island where dreams come true and family memories are made. From the minute you arrive, you feel as if you have known everyone for years. The staff are all so welcoming and so eager to make your stay the best that it can be. There isn't a single thing that I can say I didn't like about Fowl Cay. The food is super (thanks so much Ben!). The service is great. The accomodations are great. The sheets and mattress are fantastic. The frig is stocked with everything you could possibly need, even Haagen Daz in the freezer and chocolate bars on the counter!! The boat is perfect for exploring, fishing, snorkeling, hanging out on deserted beaches with your specially packed picnic with all the foodie things your family likes (they know exactly what to put in those coolers somehow!). Thank you so much Nicole, Grant, Wayland, Lisa Anne, Kyle (Kyle, please come back to Fowl Cay after you get your hospitality degree -- my boys miss you!), and to all the rest who work behind the scenes to make this special hideaway the best for family times! I cried when I left. Thanks for all those hearfelt hugs on the dock!

Where to start? Wow, we have sought out luxury travel for 25 years and we have finally found exactly what we are looking for in Fowl Cay Resort. The setting is unmatched on crystal blue waters, the setup - or how things work day to day provides a perfect rhythm in which to enjoy completely care free fun and the staff is perfectly competent but more importantly, genuinely friendly and helpful. It felt as though we were staying with extended family who truly wanted us to have a great time and would do ANYTHING to be sure that happens every moment of every day. But it's a low key, casual kind of service that makes you feel so comfortable, while experiencing the best of everything. I don't want to ruin all the nice surprises they cooked up for us to celebrate our anniversary so as not to ruin it for future couples, but suffice to say it was the best day we ever could have imagined! All thanks to the personable and fantastic staff. Of course being issued your own golf cart and boat upon arrival, the stocked villa, immaculate beachfront digs and surreal views don't hurt...Can't say enough except to say we WILL be back.
XO Lisa Ann, Nicole, Grant, Marta, Yves, Wayland, Kyle and Ruby.

Wow. I can't express enough about how impressed we were with Fowl Cay. We planned our honeymoon at Fowl Cay way in advance of our wedding. We decided last minute to "elope" and get married in the Islands as well. After a few discussions with our rep at Fowl Cay, we decided on nearby Emerald Bay. Incredible wedding and we loved the resort. But it cannot compare to Fowl Cay. People make the difference and they did. We loved everyone at the island. A boat and a butler - what else do you need? We woke every morning to delicious pastries and fresh brewed coffee then off on our adventures. 10-5 we were on the boat exploring and never had so much fun in our lives and we are not youngin's. We snorkeled in cave's, found the sunken airplane, swam in Rachel's bubble, swam with the sharks, took pic's with the Iguana's, had cocktails at the "yacht club's" and fed the starving little piggy's each evening. The food was incredible and the atmosphere so nice. We loved loved loved Fowl Cay. I hesitate to tell everyone about the trip because I don't want everyone to book in advance, but I can't help but being somewhat of a Maven. We loved Fowl Cay and will be back - over and over. Fun!!!!!
