“What a peaceful destination!”

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this first stop on our Princess Cruises "Caribbean Princess" trip through the Bahamas (Eleuthera), Curacao and Aruba. This privately owned (Princess) beach area is perfect for experiencing the true Caribbean flavor of warm gentle breezes, beautiful beaches, relaxing beach chairs, locally-managed stores and delicious food and drink. We would highly recommend that you rent a locker (found at 2 locations, one very close to the tender drop-off point) for $5/day so you don't have to carry everything with you. Once your hands are free, head to the security gate (just beyond the lockers - ask for assistance or look for the "Crafts" sign) and go outside the privately-owned area where you'll find local artisans and their booths filled with colorful regional craft items - we found some delightful souvenirs there that we never saw at other places. Be sure to take a photo ID with you in order to get back in through security. After we returned and retrieved our belongings from our locker, we headed up the longer part of the privately-owned section and entered the water near the red-roofed gazebo with our snorkeling gear. Once in the water, follow the rocks around to the right and past the gazebo for beautiful sunlit corals and tropical fish. This is what good snorkeling is all about! Very enjoyable, incredibly relaxing day... [as this stop is part of the cruise, food is included and no fee is required]

“Beautiful, but watch out!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2013

We visited Princess Cays on March 11, 2013. The weather was perfect and the island looked like paradise. It was clean, plenty of chairs and activities. They also served food that was pretty good. However, I ended up with Sea Bather's Eruption (caused by the larve of thimble jellyfish getting trapped under the swim suit and they sting you but you might not know they are there until you leave the water) It left a nasty itchy rash that I am still trying to get under control a 12 days later. We saw the baby jellyfish floating in the water but we didn't know what it was at the time. They looked like little specks floating near the surface of the water. If you go swimming there, beware. They are especially numerous March-May. Other than that, we loved it there.

“Beach Day for Princess Cruises”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2013

Princess Cays is the "private" beach for Princess Cruise lines. It requires a tender to get to shore. There are plenty of lounge chairs and many shady shelters available in addition to being able to rent a "clamshell" for your own shade around your lounge chairs. They host a complimentary BBQ lunch which is good - there are picnic tables nearby. The shore is very rocky and really requires water shoes to comfortably enter the water. Long lines to head back to the ship at the end of the day, but they have a band nearby and cold towels to help pass the time. A great day off the ship to just enjoy the beach.

“Relaxing Island”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013

Princess Cays is a private beach/resort on the island of Eluthera, Bahamas owned by the Princess Cruise line. We visited this island during our Caribbean cruise in November 2012.

To get to the island you have to go in a lifeboat from the ship and once on the island the sun loungers are free, as is the BBQ lunch. The drinks are not free but you can pay for them with your cruise card (the card issued to you on the ship to charge money to your cabin), you can also use this in the shops so you don’t need to take any cash with you.

The water equipment (snorkels e.t.c) and activities (pedalos e.t.c) are extra cost, but we took our own snorkel and goggles and the best place to snorkel was by the rocks where there were lots of fish, so make sure you take an underwater camera. There are zoned swimming and snorkelling areas and lifeguards on stations around the bays. The beaches are lovely white sand, this island is slightly windy, which was an issue during the second week of the cruise. We were due to visit the island for a second day but due to the wind the captain couldn’t stop as the tender from the ship would have been unsafe.

Lovely island if you just want to sunbathe and enjoy relaxing, there’s lots to do also if you like active stuff but this will cost you extra.
