Owners Renee and Julian are great people who will do their utmost to please you and spend time chatting and joking with you. We had a great meal of fish/home-cut fries and a garden salad along with some (much needed) cold beers on a patio with a "million dollar view". We dropped by unexpected, which is not the norm, and were grateful that they managed to whip up a meal for us so quickly as usually the protocol is to phone ahead (at least half a day) and pre-order. Thank you so much!!

Thank Colleen M

We ordered ahead for our lobsters which were delicious especially with a Kalik or two to accompany, of course Julian learned all our names and told us there's nothing to do on Cat island.... We all tried the Rake 'n Scrape and a great evening, wonderful friendly people.

Da Smoke Pot may be the most famous restaurant on Cat Island. Now, erase all preconceptions about what that means. We had read and heard from others about this small place. It is an ought-to-go destination event for visitors on the island. At the inn, our kind hosts offered to call ahead to make sure we could eat there on a Friday night. (Not what you would think--if they knew we were coming they would be there and cook for us--if we just showed up, they might not be open. And by the way--what would we like to eat?) As it turned out, there were 6 of us in attendance. The food (fish and sweet and sour conch) was delicious and plentiful and we washed it down with good Bahamian beer. The proprietor, Julian, was a gracious host, bartender and musical director. After we finished eating, all of us adjourned to the front porch for a night of rake and scrape music--a high energy and infectious Cat Island art form. Julian led the concert, with local acquaintances drifting in to add their ...talents and help drink beer. The music was really a treat and our host (who could remember everyone's names) graciously let all of us take a turn with the saw and screwdriver.

This was a great night. We will be, as the song says, "going back to Cat Island" and, if we go to no other place, we will go back to Da Smoke Pot.

We had read other reviews on the Da Smoke Pot before our arrival on Cat Island. We took the advice and called on Monday night for reservations, unfortunately they were not open but Renee made recommendations and took our order for Tuesday night. We arrived to very lively crew of Canadian expats who we had met earlier in the day and were greeted by Julian. After introductions, a lively conversation ensued and our food was served. I had sweet and sour conch and my husband had the grouper, both were served with plantains, rice and salad, Everything was delicious! The sweet and sour conch is highly recommended. The night continued with rake and scrape music, which my husband had the opportunity to play. The night ended with an intense game of chess between Julian and my husband. We were very sorry we did not have the opportunity to visit again during our time on Cat Island, even tough Julian invited us.

Great food, great service, very fun. The hosts, Julian and Renee were such genuine people. Julian can play the saw like a pro and he and his band are excellent performers.
