“We even had a cat join us at this Cat Island resort”

This was our 2nd stop during our first fly-in trip around the Bahamas. A very romantic beach side setting on a beautiful bay just 5 minutes from the (little) airport. The non-hotel like aesthetic that attracted us to the resort on the Web was in fact, very much a part of this place's attractiveness. Many/all of the rooms and suites are lined with coral stone. Nice pieces of antique furniture appear in common areas and the rooms. The Hummingbird suite we stayed in is a 2 story suite with a large bedroom and bath on top equipped with perhaps the most comfortable California king bed we've ever shared. A full kitchen, living room and dining area are below along with a spacious inside/outside stone lined totally private shower/bath.

To our delight, the room came with it's own totally adorable cat. This was not the typical semi-feral pet one finds in some island places but rather a well fed and kept cutie that adopted us the minute we arrived. She was obviously trained not to jump up on things unless invited (how does one do that???) but happily ended up sleeping with us each night. Just too precious and welcoming!

Otherwise the food was great though fresh conch salad in 'town' was a special highlight. The beach was wide and flawless. Bikes and kayaks were available whenever desired. That staff was excellent in a completely casual yet responsive way. A well stocked, self serve honor bar is a focus around cocktail time but time just melted away at this completely blissful spot on Fernandez Bay.

Room Tip: All rooms are beach front. Some are small, others quite spacious. You get more value from a non-ho...

We just returned from our third annual trip to FBV and will be back for more. We would not consider staying anywhere else on Cat Island, as this resort consistently exceeds all expectations. Each visit has felt like we're returning to our family vacation home, and the staff works very hard to set this vibe. Flawless reservation bookings with Tameron, warm hospitality from Donna and Jason, and breathtaking boating trips with Mark as our guide have all made our memories more special. Imagine outstanding dinners by the water with live Bahamian tunes followed by bonfires on the beach as a regular end to each day. Zero crime and friendly locals promote exploration of the island as well. If you are looking for an authentic island experience without tourist shops and clubs, unplug and run to FBV, but be prepared to become a repeat visitor as you will think about it all year and need to go back for more.

If you like small, intimate resorts this is the one for you. No pool, no frills, just romantic little bungalows on the most immaculate beach in the Caribbean. Pure white sand, turquoise perfect water in a sheltered bay- no surf at all- safe for even very small children. An open bar and terrific food. Service was great and despite its isolation there is plenty to do. Borrow a bike, a kayak, snorkel right in front of the restaurant. Or just lay in a hammock with your honey and read.

My wife and I just got back from our 5 night/ 6 day honeymoon from the Village and all we can say is; WOW! We both have pretty stressful jobs and needed to get away to unwind after the wedding and thats exactly what we did. Excellent food, amazing staff that makes you feel like family, and one of the most amazing locations sets this place far above other tropical locations we been to. If you are looking for touristy shopping and dressing up fancy then you should probably wander through Nassau. However, if you want to wake up looking out over a beautiful tropical bay, kayak through uninhabited mangrove islands and bike to ancient ruins, this is the place for you. The snorkeling is pretty awesome as well!

We stayed in the "Shane Shack" which, like all their rooms, is on the beach and literally steps from the water. Watching the sun set from our wrap around patio and sipping tropical drinks is something we will never forget. We look forward to coming back very soon.

We recently visited Cat Island for the first time but stayed at another resort. During our visit we, like many other travelers, wanted to check out other options for places to stay on later visits. We had dinner or lunches at several other resorts and were always made to feel very welcomed. One day we were driving by Fernandez Bay Village and it was lunch time so we thought we would drop in and check it out. After carefully driving down the long and very rough road we parked the car and approached the front entrance. On the door was a small note saying they were closed. As we turned to walk back to our car a woman stuck her head out the door and very rudely yelled at us, saying they were closed and we needed to leave immediately.

We were shocked, speechless and left immediately. I would suggest that next time they close they put a sign at the start of the long road in rather than just a small one on the front door. Or just be a little kinder to people who stop by.

12 family members were here in 3 houses for my parent's 55th anniversary. Donna and her Staff were exceptional as always, being aware of allergies, locating lost luggage, getting cakes made and champagne delivered from family members not in attendance! I always look forward to staying at Fernandez Bay Resort and miss it when I leave! Would recommend it to any and all The beach is Superb, the food Divine and the staff Sublime!

Room Tip: houses/villas house from a couple to several, and multiple singes

Stayed 4 nights at FBV during our trip to Cat Island. A great location on an amazing island, with everything that you could possibly want from a hotel. Rooms are very nice, although a tad rustic, and we weren't convinced about having the whole bathroom outside as cleaning your teeth turned into a bit of an 'I'm A Celebrity' Challenge when we left the light on one night! The food is good, but overpriced for a buffet and that probably reflects the hotel in general - it is slightly galling paying well over the odds for a local beer at an honesty bar. We found there was room for improvement on the service side too, it would have been nice to have had a barman in the evening and, compared to the other hotels on the island we visited (Tailwinds, Shannons), you don't get the same personal feel. This said, it is catering for a slightly different audience (very 'Republican' as one of the US guests referred to it...).
We had a great time and it's a great hotel with 'lots' to do - we did some fantastic kayaking and snorkelling right from the beach and borrowed some bikes for a tour round the local sites.
Would certainly recommend visiting FBV for the location, but there are, in my opinion, better places to stay on the Island where you will get better VFM and a more personal service.
