If you are really looking for a destination to get away and relax I would strongly recommend Fernandez Bay. From the casual check in to the ride back to the airport everything is on a no stress relaxed pace.

Everyone on staff truly treat you like family, especially Donna.

We came back to Fernandez Bay Village for Christmas agin this year because we wanted more! This time the only members of the family that could come back were the family from Asheville,NC. My 2 granddaughters (12 and 14) were packed and ready to go weeks before. The weather was great, the food fabulous, and the activities perfect: paddle boards, kayaks, bonefishing and helping us catch and tag turtles for the Archie Carr Center for Sea Turtle Research. The people staying here, some the same from last year, were all interesting, fun and enjoying the resort. One family had been to Atlantis with their 2 teenage children and after 1 day said they wished they had spent the entire time here! So second, third or fourth helpings...we'll be back again next year!

Room Tip: The pool is the ocean and it is better than any pool I've seen. The beach is the fitness center...

We said goodbye today after 9 nights in the Sand Dollar Villa. The staff, the food, the accomodations, the beach, and the island all met or exceeded our expectations. This villa was a perfect choice for us - we brought our 13 year old. There was a lot of room, 2 bathrooms, huge patio, full kitchen, gorgeous views, steps from the beach, lots of privacy, and a good mix of sun and shade. Kayaks, floaties, bikes, chairs, etc. were all plentiful so no issues with that. Donna was very friendly and accomodating. Ron and Kelly were super nice and made us feel like more than just guests at a resort...more like friends. The resort is literally 2 minutes from the airport. We flew Sky Bahamas and no complaints there. We loved it here, our boy loved it, and we really hope we are fortunate enough to return soon!

The wife & I literally just returned from an amazing 4 day 3 night stay @ FBV. If we didn't have to get to FLA for New Years..we would've stayed longer. I found out about this gem on the net and did research on TA. We flew our small twin engine plane to Cat Island from NY. For those without a plane, there is good airline service to Cat Island from Nassau. Anyway, from the moment we got picked up at the airport by Donna, and took the 3 minute drive to FBV, we knew we were in for a special time. Check-in was super quick and Donna gave us an overview of the entire place. Within minutes we we in our "Royal Cottage" putting on swimsuits. Next came 2 cold drinks from the self-service honor bar and a pair of comfortable lounge chairs @ the beach...directly in front of our cottage. How awesome was that! Lots of fun water sports including canoeing, snorkeling, & paddle boarding...all complimentary. Food was delish and the staff couldn't have been better (just like the weather). We are going to book the same digs for next year. The folks at FBV aim to please...and please they did.
In closing, this place has a real warm rustic Caribbean feel...with an amazing beach & scenery. Spray a little OFF on yourself after sunset and you'll be all set. Enjoy!

As a corporate pilot we get to stay at many desirable locations - often just by chance. Since this little resort property is right adjacent to the New Bight airport, we stay here while the boss frolics on his mega-yacht! The folks that run this property are the primary reason it gets such great reviews.....they are awesome and make every effort to accommodate all your needs. If you're expecting lots of amenities, casino, large crowds, noisy music.....it ain't here!! The units are very interesting and not real large - but then you don't go here for the luxurious lobby with hanging chandeliers etc......the surrounding horseshoe shaped bay is gorgeous and the water 'gin clear'. Kayaking and snorkeling are sports you must try.

Room Tip: all the rooms overlook the bay - some are larger than others.

There is very little to be said about Fernandez Bay Village that hasn't been said already, so I'll do my best not to repeat the identical glowing praise that others have rightfully heaped upon this resort. My wife and I traveled with another couple and one of the reasons that we decided on Fernandez Bay Village was that we could get a two bedroom house with a shared kitchen/living room area. We decided on the Point House which was about a quarter-mile from the clubhouse and it was perfect -- well appointed, quiet, and right on the beach. Our house even had a little charcoal grill which we used to save a few bucks on our food bill once or twice.

We rented a car for two days and spent a day each on the north side of the island and on the south. Heading North we managed to find sea glass beach which, according to hostess Donna, is down "a three mile road that will feel like twenty" (accurate.) It was on the Atlantic side whose waters were far more rough than those on the Caribbean side but the beach itself yielded several piles of sea glass that we brought home. We also stopped at the northern Shanna's Cove resort for a swim and a beer. We all agreed that it looked like a lovely resort (in fact, one that we had looked into during our planning stages) but as they didn't have any two bedroom villas we felt we made the right choice when booking at FBV.

Our first stop on the south side was the Hermitage and it was absolutely worth a look. The hike to the top is pretty easy with lots to see as Father Jerome built the stations of the cross in stone and concrete along the way. Great photography opportunities and sweeping views across both the Atlantic and Caribbean from the highest point in the Bahamas.

We also booked a bottom fishing trip for us dudes in the group. Now in fairness, we did manage to come home with a decent sized Mahi-mahi which we cooked up over our grill; however, the trip itself didn't feel worth the $500 we paid for it. For starters, the boat we took out was very small -- so much so that it was difficult for the four of us (two plus the fellow we booked through and the "captain") to move around. Second, the rigs provided were worn and more suited to heavy offshore fishing than for bottom fishing -- they were simply too heavy to feel any hits from smaller bottom fish. And third, despite the fact that we weren't catching anything they didn't feel the need to relocate to find the fish. Nonetheless, when we came back to the clubhouse with news of our mahi catch Donna zipped into the kitchen to throw together a grilling package consisting of butter, spices, lemons, and limes for us. That's the kind of thing that happened time and again and what makes FBV such a special place.

It's the people at Fernandez Bay that helped us have such a great vacation. There are plenty of resorts that have cottages right on the water and that serve great food -- but I can't remember visiting a place that really made you feel like you're spending time with family, and that's how you feel at FBV. They were always happy to give us a ride to the market to pick up supplies or spend time just laughing and telling stories around the bar, introducing other guests, giving advice on things to do the next day. For example, we all wanted to hear some Rake & Scrape music (the traditional music of Cat Island) but were having difficulty getting our schedule to match up with those of the local establishments. So my wife asked the evening guitar player about it and he placed a call to Bohog (aka Pompey - he seemed to have two names), a legend on the island, who set up a Rake & Scrape group at a small outdoor pub near the regatta area for the following afternoon. We got a ride from Ron and Kelly gave us her personal cell phone to use to call when we were ready to be picked up again. If that's not the definition of above-and-beyond, I don't know what is.

While I'm at it, I definitely want to throw some love at Ron and Kelly -- they were only on the island and working at FBV for three days when we got there but they are clearly cut from the same cloth as the rest of the staff. They both seemed thrilled to be there, to be spending time with guests, and they both did a great job making sure everyone was enjoying themselves. While it would be hard to have a bad time at such a beautiful property, the two of them made it even better.

It was very hard to leave and we're already trying to figure out when our next trip to Fernandez Bay will be. We've never had a more enjoyable, relaxing vacation.

Just got back from a wedding/vacation at Fernandez Bay Village and could not have asked for a better beach location. We were greeted and picked up at the airport and took the brief drive to the resort where we met Donna - awesome hostess. Fantastic check in service - we got a brief tour of the important stuff - dining room and meal schedule, honor bar (yes in 2012 you can actually go to a resort and they trust you - just like the corner store where you write down what you drink and they bill you at the end!) and our villa.
We stayed at the Sea Garden villa which was perfect for two couples. Seperate but equal bedrooms joined with a comfy living room area - but we spent very little time in our rooms, too much to see and do. Comfortable beds, air conditioning, and cool outdoor showers. There is nothing better than taking a shower and having a cool breeze go by. Unique and fun!
Beach was incredible with fine white sand, gently sloping - great for kids to play. We took the complementary kayaks out to the small volcanic island to snorkel and then went around the bend through the mangrove river. Saw sea turtles. Tried paddleboarding for the first time. Took a cruise in the power boat (you can be your own captain). We visited the Hermatage (a must see) and toured the island - remote with it's own warm personality.
It was nice to have access to the internet in the lobby but a break from electronics was really the best part of this vacation. The resort provides all the modern conveniences with the unusual tranquility of being the only guests as far as the eye can see. You really do get your own beach here.
I did not get a chance to use the onsite bikes - we will have to save that for another time. The meals were fantastic with variety and plenty of food. The wedding was gorgeous and it seemed that nothing was too much to ask of this great family and staff. Go - you will not regret it. I know I will be back as soon as I can!

Room Tip: Sea Garden villa is a small walk to the main lobby area and the bar.
