We can't recommend this place enough. The 'villas' are lovely and extremely well equipped with everything you could need, including your own kitchen. There is a lovely view overlooking the turquoise sea from the verandah, as well as from the pool. The beach is beautiful and secluded and offers plenty of opportunities to relax, swim, snorkel, have a picnic, anything you could wish for really. And as if that isn't enough then the owner, Jerry, is a man who could make anywhere seem like paradise. (No exaggeration). He is an amazing host, extremely kind, generous and goes out of his way to make sure you have everything you need to make your holiday special. We highly recommend his rum punch. Just be careful! (made with approx. 15 types of rum...!) We found this place when we were looking for a hurricane shelter. Our previous place was in a dangerous location and our host did not help us at all in finding a safe shelter. At Flamingo Bay everyone looked after us and helped us through the hurricane. We even extended our stay as we loved it so much. You won't be treated anywhere on Cat as well as you are treated here. it really is the best!

Having selected The Flamingo Bay Club largely on the basis of rave reviews, as we set out for Cat Island I was somewhat nervous that my expectations were too high. I should not have worried. The experience was better than the high expectations.

Our “villa” was attractive, comfortable, and well appointed. The queen-size bed was welcome. The ceiling fans were adequate for climate control during our stay, and it was nice to have the A/C available for use if needed. There are many choices on where to sit and read. As advertised we were able to kayak to a cave and bicycle to an Atlantic beach. Not trivial for an island setting, The Flamingo Bay Club produces its own good-tasting fresh water. Fruit and warm breads or bagels arrived at our door each morning. The daily cocktail hour was educational, entertaining, and relaxing. In short, we had the creature comforts.

Since the potential for snorkeling without a boat weighed heavily in our deciding where to vacation this time, I’ll elaborate on that aspect. Flamingo Bay provides excellent “off the beach” snorkeling: a wide variety of coral and fauna going beyond the usual wrasse and tang to rays (eight majestic rays swimming in formation were awesome) and turtles. Most days we went in twice because we enjoyed the snorkeling so much. According to wind and tide, however, some days were choppy. We have snorkeled enough in the past not to be put off by waves, but beginners might wait in vain for smooth water.

What makes The Flamingo Bay Club stand out are the hosts. Jerry seems to have a mission to provide whatever he can to make your stay memorable. If he has not anticipated a need, your identifying one throws Jerry into action. The remarkable service is in the category of friends wanting to take care of you.

Beyond what “the Club” provides, you should be prepared for the peculiarities of the area. You really are dependent on the Club and what you bring along. Night life for us was reading and watching DVDs (from Jerry’s huge collection). The little restaurant seven minutes’ walk away was not ordinarily open except for lunch. We talked with the cook/waitress and scheduled dinner there one night with no menu choice other than, “Is fish all right?” The “grocery store” associated with that restaurant carried a minimum of food - you cannot rely on it to provide what you might cook. Shopping on the island in general is limited - although signs along the road imply the existence of “straw stores,” you would have to search for the owner. We could not find a post card of Cat Island. Although we went into the water without hesitation, the locals consider the ocean temperature too low for swimming during the winter, when we were there.

If you do not want to cook for yourself, a car is necessary. We did not rent a car. (The going rate was $80 per day.) Although a car would have given us more freedom, we were happy to rely on Jerry and The Flamingo Bay Club. In sum, if it fits your style, the Club is a true winner.

My wife and I were looking for a relaxing beach vacation without being surrounded by other tourists, and that is exactly what we got. The beach at Flamingo Bay was beatiful and the reef was great for snorkeling. A couple of days we kayaked to nearby beaches and explored. The beach at nearby Cutlass Bay was also very nice and easily within biking distance. We never saw any other people on any of the beaches, it was very nice to experience a beach all to ourselves. If you would prefer a pool Flamingo Bay has a great pool area with a patio and hot tub overlooking the ocean. We also rented a car for 2 days and explored the rest of the island. We stopped at a couple of roadside bars/restaraunts and ate lunch and drank with the locals. Yardies about 5 or 10 minutes north of Pigeon Cay had the best conch salad. Walking up to and exploring the Hermitage was great and lunch at the Bluebird was delicious. Jerry and Donna at Flamingo Bay are two of the nicest people we have ever met. They will do everything they can to accomodate you. We really enjoyed drinking, eating, and visiting with them each night at cocktail hour. Flamingo Bay is a beatiful place, Jerry and Donna are wonderful hosts and we are looking foward to a return visit as soon as possible.

We have been here several times, and cant wait to go back. A short flight from Ft. Lauderdale and you land in paradise. Donna & Jerry are some fantastic hosts who will make sure you have all you need. The Villa's also have everything you need for a vacation plus a kitchen! Very secluded beach we spent 5 day's on the beach and have not crossed paths with anybody else. Kayaking, snorkeling, swimming, biking & touring the Island.

I debated whether to write a review about Jerry and Donna's place because we'd like to return someday and too much good word of mouth will inevitably make it hard to book this place...
I don't like to toss around the word "awesome" much, but this place warrants it. To begin with Donna & Jerry are probably the nicest people you are likely to ever come across. Forget the fact that they have built this beautiful place where you fall asleep to the sound of waves lapping the beach under a star-splashed sky, because even if Flamingo Bay was built on some desolate rock out in the scrub, you would still enjoy yourself because Donna and Jerry would see that you did.
When you stay with Jerry and Donna you are a welcomed guest. They bend over backwards to make sure you are having a good time, and their love this island is infectious.
Flamingo Bay is a place where you can do as much or as little as you please. Some of the things we did: biking to beaches, snorkeling off their beach, a kayak trip to a bat cave and Winding Bay (one of the prettiest beaches I have seen in the Bahamas). Lazing by the pool, relaxing in the Jaccuzzi , swinging in hammocks by the beach and by the pool, lunch at the bluebird, beach combing with Donna, kayak fishing (Jerry loaned me his rod), a visit to the local Easter festival where we had some great conch fritters.
We also rented a car for a day from Harry at the Lakeview and went all the way north on the island. We stopped to check out most of the other resorts on the island which reinforced our smug pleasure at having stumbled on Flamingo Bay. There are some lovely spots on the island and some lovely places, but my impression was that for relaxing atmosphere, and variety of experience, and just plain old fun, there isn't a better place to be than Donna and Jerry's. Even if you offered to put me up at Fernandez Bay, or Pigeon Cay, I would still take Flamingo Bay, and happily pay my own way.

We can't say enough good things about our week long stay at Flamingo Bay. The property has two studio villas (with kitchenettes) for guests and a matching house where the hosts live. Its location is a nice balance between seclusion and convenience o most things on the south part of the island (as much as it can be on Cat Island).

The hosts, Jerry and Donna, are incredible. Anything you need, they will help get for you. They even invited us to their Thanksgiving dinner. Plus, the locals and ex-pats on Cat Island can't say enough good things about them. On most mornings they provide a simple breakfast basket and Happy Hour in the evening includes appetizers and as many rum drinks as you can put down. Breakfast and Happy Hour end up saving you $25-50 a day (depending on how much you normally drink on vacation). They picked us up at the airport, arranged our rental car, and took us for a short tour of the island.

All of the facilities are clean, modern, and comfy. Jerry has built the place with his own hands, and Donna has helped with the interior decorating. Flamingo Bay has filtered water, backup generator, A/C, plenty of fans, and solar hot water (all of this is important to have on Cat Island). The facilities also include a BBQ, its own pool, kayaks, snorkling gear, and a 1 minute walk down to the hammock on the beach.

Flamingo Bay is one of the best places to stay on Cat Island! We may not be back next year, but it is a place we hope to return to soon.

June 2008 Owners Jerry and Donna can not do enough to make sure you have a relaxing vacation. You are treated like "family" or can have total solutide. . We spents weeks planning our trip to Cat Island and it was almost cancelled due to a serious illness. Flamingo Bay was a wonderful place to recover. There are only two small guest cottages, very clean and tastefully decorated, confortable bed, A/C and beautiful view of ocean. The beach was a short walk, and the owner, Jerry, reconized we may have a problem walking there. He provided his lawn tractor for transportaion. Since local grocery is closed on Sunday (day we arrived) he shopped for us, had everything we requested in the cottage. Now that exceeds the responsibility of a host! The beach is very private, swing chairs and hammock for relaxing. Happy hours were the best, meeting other guest , delicious snacks and rum punch provided by Jerry. It is not advertised on their website and do not know if provided to every guest - but warm muffins and fresh fruit was on our doorstep every morning. When he learned it was our anniversary, he deliverd Bloody Mary's. We were given such special treatment we did not want to leave. Their generosity touched our hearts.
