“A perfect week at Swain's Cay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

My girlfriend and I went to Swain's Cay for a week in June 2014. We looked for a place that we could catch bonefish as well as spearfish. We certainly found it. I have fished for bonefish in many places, but this part of Andros is the best I have seen. My girlfriend had never picked up a fly rod before, but our guide Dougie put her on three bonefish that she caught on fly within about 30 minutes. I caught as many bones as I wanted each morning, and we spent the afternoon on the reef spearing grouper and snapper. The bones are plentiful and the flats seem untouched.
The food at Swain's cay is top notch, and the rooms are clean and beautiful. Everyone on Staff if friendly and fun to be around. This lodge is one of the few I have seen that is "Bahamian" owned, and Cheryl is a true fit for a bonefish lodge owner.
The lodge has Kayaks and Bikes which make exploring the island and blue holes a cinch. I would recommend this place to anyone.

The hotel was clean, neat, & comfortable. The staff was very attentive. The location was beautiful. I visited with my parents (mid-60s) and my son (9 y.o.) - we all had a wonderful time. The hotel had bikes and kayaks for use (free), the beach was pristine, and the stars were fabulous. Highly, highly, highly recommend if you are looking for a quiet beach getaway. If you want night life and action, this is not the spot for you; but if you want peace and relaxation then you *must* try Swain's Cay Lodge.

Swain's Cay Lodge is a true gem! From the moment you drive into the property, you can see you are in for a marvelous experience - and first impressions are the truest! The lodge is beautifully nestled against the sea. White sand that is soft and warm, combined with the lovely tropical plantings of coconut palms, hibiscus and other colorful flowers and vegetation as well as the Caribbean blue green sea are an immediate balm for weary travelers. Cheryl, a native Bahamian, is the owner and operator. She lives on the grounds and sees to your every need.

We were housed in the three-bedroom apartment. It was fully air conditioned and also had ceiling fans in every room. The rooms were spotlessly clean, sweet smelling, and beautifully appointed with comfortable beds and furniture. Maid service was available every day.

We purchased the meal plan and were treated to a hot or cold breakfast, lovely sandwiches for lunch, and dinners of fresh fish, chicken, ribs, conch! Cheryl also offers complete bar service. Snacks were available at all times.

We are not fisher people so we asked Cheryl to arrange a reef snorkel trip for us. Cheryl drove us to the dock where two sweet, funny and kind young men took us to three different spots to snorkel. We saw a burr fish, a turtle, barracuda, a nurse shark, lots of conch, Indian sea eggs, (unfortunately) lion fish, trigger fish, coronet fish, anemones, parrot fish, tang, wrassies, and many other lovely fish.

Snorkeling in front of the lodge was very fun as well. Our 9 year old grandson was with us, and he was able to joyfully swim all around in front of the lodge because the water was very shallow.

In addition to water activities, Cheryl provides bicycles and kayaks that are available for her guests.

My husband and I have been scuba diving for 30 years and have been all over the Caribbean as well as the Indian Ocean. We have seldom encountered a more perfect place than Andros and Swain's Cay Lodge for a family vacation. It is very easy to get to from the States. If you stay four consecutive nights at the Lodge, Cheryl will buy your round trip air tickets from Nassau.

Once Swain's Cay Lodge, which is only 5 years old, becomes fully discovered, it will be booked solid with returning customers!

Room Tip: All the rooms are equally charming. The three bedroom apartment had two full baths and a kitchen...

Come to Swain's Cay Lodge. It was my second time to Mangrove Cay and my first time at Swain's Cay Lodge and I couldn't have been happier. Everything you can ask for at a very reasonable price. Cheryl and the staff were wonderful, friendly, and went above and beyond expiation. Thanks for a great time and I will be back......at least if my wife lets me:) A true fisher man never gives up his "Honey Hole" But I have to share this place. If you want to catch large Bones....come to Swain's Cay Lodge!
Thanks, Matt R.

Room Tip: Bring bug spray..you can purchase it from Cheryl but nice to have your own.

Just spent 5 nights and 4 days on a father & son bonefishing trip at the end of May. Cheryl and her staff were great. The rooms were nice, clean, and well maintained. The grounds were well maintained and offered a fantastic view of the bay in front of the lodge. Cheryl and Pam are excellent cooks, offering a variety of island food and more traditional fare. We fished with Alvin all four days; despite less than favorable conditions, Alvin found fish and worked hard to ensure our success.

Our week stay at Swain's Cay Lodge late April/early May 2014 was amazing! From the moment we landed we received attentive and friendly service. Cheryl met us when we arrived, gave us a tour of the facility, introduced us to the staff and other guests (most of whom were other anglers).

Food was good. Drinks were great on the beach front patio. We looked forward to a cold beverage and appetizer after each day of fishing. Wait till you have their Conch Fritters! Room was clean and 30 feet from the beach.

We were there for the bonefishing! And, that was incredible. Our guides Patterson and Alvin were professional, experienced, patient, great instructors, and knew how to find fish! We never fished the same spot, and just had an all around great time!

Take time to explore the island on the bikes available. Everyone on Mangrove Cay is so friendly.

We will return!

Room Tip: Beach front rooms are great, but none of the rooms are far from the beach.

Just spent 6 nights and 5 days fishing Mangrove Cay from May 16-22. We stayed at Swain's Cay Lodge. The accommodations were clean and comfortable with easy access to fishing either Middle Bight or South Bight. Simple delicious breakfast, make your own box lunch, and fantastic dinners with everything from grouper to lobster bits to jerked chicken were available. Flights from Nassau to Mangrove Cay twice daily made trip easy. Can't wait to return for more bonefishing. Oh yeah the fishing was awesome also.

Room Tip: Bone fishing guides can be arranged through lodge or independently. All rooms close to beach. The t...
