My wife and I recently travelled to Andros Island for a getaway. We spent one night in a neighboring lodge and decided it was enough. Thank God Swains Cay was there to save the day. We were impressed from the moment we entered their driveway. Cheryl was very accomodating and sought to meet all our needs. Our room was beautiful, the service was great and if you eat here, ask for the grouper and coleslaw with fried potatoes! My wife won't stop talking about it. We felt this was one of the nicest surprises that we have had in a long time. Noel keeps the place immaculate and the view is fantastic. I will be coming back for fishing next time. Take our advice, if you are not sure about where to stay.....stay here!!!!

Room Tip: Ocean front is the way to go!

I had the experience of a lifetime in joining three friends for a long weekend stay at Swains Cay Lodge! Cheryl and the Pamelas provided awesome hospitality. We were able to experience the local culture along with truely fresh conch salad ( Cheryl will point you in the right direction ) . The Homecoming Celebration was alot of fun. The food, drink, rooms, and other amenities were excellent. Oh, and the fishing wasnt half bad either. We fished for bones and barracuda in the flats and then ventured into the ocean for groupers, snappers, and mahi with plenty of success and lots of action.

Lots of fun!! I would highly recommend Swains Cay Lodge to anyone and I am planning next year's visit, already.

Recently traveled to Swain's Cay for a fishing vacation. My friends and I had a fantastic time!
From the moment we arrived, the hospitality, accommodations, food and fishing were outstanding. Three days of great fishing with fantastic guides to take us to the best fishing spots around Andros Island. Highly recommended! Cheryl and Pamela are outstanding hosts. We're already planning our return trip!

Just got back from a trip to Swaines Lodge in early May 2012. We were primarliy bonefishing, but we also got a chance to enjoy the local nightlife as it was the Annual Homecoming Celebration. What a great place!
Cheryl and the group at Swaines are great in every way. From the rooms, to the food, to the friendly service, it would have been hard for our group to have had a better time.
Only regret---having to leave!!
Already planning our return trip to Swaines Cay Lodge. Highly recommended!

We chose Swain's Cay because of the bonefishing. The cabin and grounds were beautiful. We had a great guide, Danzel. My husband caught many bonefish while I enjoyed taking pictures. Out fishing we saw many sharks, barracudas, turtles, porpoise, giant starfish, conch, and even a lone pink flamingo. Our guide took us snorkeling one afternoon and it was beauitful in the crystal clear waters. He also took us to see some blue holes.
The lodge has a new view at night where all the fisherman gathered to talk about their conquests, including the ones that got away. The beer was cold, the rum punch was fantasitc. Try the baby-maker made from fresh coconut. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner each night along with conch fritters.
The beach in front of the lodge was full of coral and sea grasses, but there was a lot to see when the tide rolled out. We were able to walk out quite a distance
If fishing, keep yourself covered as the flies can be relentless. I think the flies were the only bad thing.

Swains Cay is an awesome escape from the crowds of the big resorts in the Bahamas. If you're looking for kayaking/snorkeling/beach time without crowds, I'd highly recommend it. The price isn't cheap, but comparatively to what else is on the island, I'd say it's a bargain!

The Room - Very nice furniture/decorations. Well done all around. Simple, nice and functional bathroom, good water pressure in the shower. A/C in room worked great but the nice breeze meant we didn't need it all that much. Comfortable bed. No mind blowing luxury in the rooms but certainly nothing to complain about and excellent compared to the other places on the Cay.

The Resort and Restaurant- Bikes/kayaks are available and lots of fun. We used both and would have used them more had we stayed longer. The restaurant is quite good, selection is limited but everything we had was tasty and they were accommodating if we wanted something different. Breakfast was usually fresh fruit, some bread and cereal. Lunch we had sandwiches and chips or fried potatoes. Dinner was usually veggies, a potato or rice, and then meat which was usually fresh seafood but chicken was also an option. The dinners were really excellent. Happy hour is always great and the conch fritters are awesome. Food/drink prices aren't cheap but you're on a secluded island and they do a great job so no complaints there.

The island/beach - There are very few people on the island and it is an awesome escape to relax. The beach at the resort is great, nice sand and nice lounge chairs there. The water depth is pretty shallow a long way off from shore. At low tide you could wade out to the little island and you'd have to go a ways out to swim. Great places to snorkel around the little island and the kayaks are awesome. There are tons of beach access points up and down the island you can bike to as well as some local conch shacks and cafe's but there's not much in the way of other restaurants and stores. The blue holes are cool and there's even a great hike (somewhat difficult) to an inland blue hole you can do from Swains that takes ~3 hours round trip for the 5ish mile hike.

The other 8-10 guests while we were there were awesome company. We were the youngest (in our late 20's) there by a few years and I'd say the average age was 40-50. Dinner and happy hour with all the other guests was lots of fun and everyone was quite friendly. It was a good mix of people fishing, couples where 1 person fished and the other relaxed on the beach, and people just there enjoying the beach/snorkeling/kayaking.

Bring some bug spray with DEET as well as Benedryl pills and cream for bug bites. Others were able to avoid them, but we got hit early in the trip sitting out on the beach and were playing catch up from there. Not bad though and nothing that isn't worth the relaxation.

This resort isn't anywhere close roughing it and they do a great job making you comfortable but if you want a resort where you're waited on all the time and have all the modern comforts, it's not for you. If you want a secluded place to kayak/bike/hike/snorkel/fish/enjoy the beach, this place is AMAZING and you will love it as we did.

Room Tip: Request one of three 3 beachfront rooms, especially either of the 2 away from restaurant (I think ro...

My husband and I have recently returned from Swains Cay Lodge - having spent a long weekend there. We cannot recommend it highly enough. Under the excellent leadership of Cheryl, all the staff cannot do enough whilst you are there to ensure you have a wonderful time. The location is beautiful and ideal if you want a quiet getaway to bird watch, fish or just relax on the beach or use the complimentary bikes or kayaks. The staff will organise fishing, snorkelling or walking trips as required and all the guides we met were extremely knowledgeable. The accommodation is lovely and the cooking superb - the best Conch fritters and Guava cheesecake ever! You will be warmly welcomed by the locals and will definitely want to return :)
