We have tested Roggie once on diving and end up using him every day for our one week holiday in Andros. We were diving several times, snorcheling, fishing barracuda and even went for local disco one evening. Roggie knows the island, the see and all the blue holes and all local people. He is pleasant and easy to be with and he knows when to be active and when to give you a time. He is never in rush or stress and he is very reliable. He makes a real difference.

If you’re going to do anything in the waters around South Andros other than swimming, Reel Tight Charters is the company to call. Reel Tight is run by Roggie (pronounced “Rogue-ee”) who happens to be a fantastic, low key, professional who was helpful, fun to be around, and extremely knowledgeable about what to do and how to do it.

In our case we hired him to take us snorkeling. We went to three locations and spent as much time in the water as we wanted. There was no hurry or rush. He went at our pace. If we had wanted to spend a few more hours, no problem.

He had an assistant who swam with us in the water. I’ve now forgotten his name three times but it starts with an S and this kid is cool. He swims like a fish, knows every type of fish, coral, and place to see amazing things underwater. Like Roggie he was mellow, relaxed, gave us distance when my wife and I wanted to just swim together and was always on hand to answer a question. He even swam into some hard to reach places to get photos with our underwater camera that I could take credit for when we showed them back home.

All in all we had a fantastic time during our snorkeling trip. It was one of the high points of our trip to Andros.

One recommendation - make sure you have the snorkeling gear prior to your trip with Roggie (ours was supplied by the hotel we stayed at: Emerald Palms) or verify with Roggie where it will come from.

My wife and I spent Labor Day weekend on South Andros, and Roggie took us out on two separate occasions. We didn’t rent a car, so Roggie picked us up and dropped us off both days. In fact, after the first day of reef and wreck diving he just pulled up to the beach at Emerald Palms and we just hopped out into the water and walked up to our room!

The reef off of South Andros is just a few minutes offshore and really beautiful; perhaps even more vibrant than the reef off of Belize. We had great viz, but Roggie told us it could get much better than what we witnessed. We enjoyed two dives our first day out, and Roggie was great. Roggie and his partner Jesse (who was away) run the only two dive boats on the island, so like us you will have every dive site to yourself (and likely the entire dive boat, as we did).

The second day was the real treat, and is a dive experience not to be missed. South Andros, and many islands of the Bahamas, are known for their blue holes. These collapsed cave systems are typically found in the sea, but there are many on the actual island of South Andros itself. So, for our second day of diving we hiked maybe 5 minutes through the jungle (Roggie had 2 helpers for gear) to one of the blue holes. We dropped our tanks and BC’s in (inflated, of course), geared up in the water, and dropped down. The water was brackish and milky at first, but at about 55 feet it became gin clear and very salty. We dove all the way down to 120 and explored the cave, but you can always see the light shining in so never feels claustrophobic. It was like diving above the surface of an alien planet—truly surreal. I highly recommend this dive to anyone who likes a little adventure; climbing out of the hole and avoiding the giant spiders is a lot of fun!

For our second and third dives of the day, we drove back to boat and hit two blue holes in the ocean. One was a narrow cave that went to about 85 feet, which was pretty cool. The second was a shallow cave, maybe 55 feet. We spent a long time hanging out near the opening, which was like a postcard. There were huge schools of horse eyed jacks, a million aquarium fish, lobster, and of course lion fish.

Speaking of lobster, Roggie caught lobster for us to eat for dinner on two occasions. Hard to beat steaming up 3 or 4 lobster tails fresh out of the ocean!
We’re looking forward to going back and checking out some new dive sites, as well as getting some fishing in. This is an experience that’s not to be missed—get there before this place gets truly discovered.

Roggie, the divemaster/captain took us out twice. The first day we went to the reef on one dive, then to a shipwreck on another dive. The reef was great, lots to see. The wreck was very cool, lots of life on it, and apparently it was discovered by Roggie and some mates when freediving. The next time we went out, we dove two blue holes. Amazing! One was in the jungle, the other in the sea. We had an amazing time- Roggie (short for Rosevelt) was professional and laid back. The gear was good, and the diving was prime!

We used Roggie's services a few times on our trip to Andros. He took us fishing and it was a fantastic time. It was our first time and he guided us in catching many fish. He cleaned our catch and we ate fresh fish for the rest of our trip!! I am a registered Scuba Diver, but I couldn't dive because a medical issue, but the snorkeling was fun. He knows the Blue Hole spots and where to see beautiful marine life.

Our experience with Roggie is that he is a professional that takes care of his customers and is very knowledgeable about Andros and its surrounding area. I would recommend without hesitation to anyone visiting the Bahamas!!
