“Think Twice”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2013

After reading all of the reviews for the Flying Fish I expected to be wowed. Unfortunately I was underwhelmed. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, scenic views and great service. However, the food simply isn't up to scratch especially for the prices its offered at, 1 small salad, BLT and a glass of wine $60. It would appear that more time is spent on presentation that on taste. I agree with another reviewer that this restaurant would benefit from having some competition. Best item on my visit was the wine.

“One of the finest meals we've had ... anywhere!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

This is the best food on Grand Bahama, bar none. Chef Tim Tibbett and his wife Rebecca have created a foodie experience in Freeport that is not surpassed for flavour, presentation, ambience, and sheer friendliness.

You can eat indoors or outdoors, and I'd strongly recommend making reservations. It is what some would consider expensive ... dinner for four of us with dessert but no wine was $200. But it was worth every penny. We're self-professed foodies ... and have had a few very memorable meals in our lives (Napa Valley, a stunning Asian-fusion place hidden in Waterloo, Ontario called Bhima Warung, Pricess Di's favourite place in London). This is now in our top three; it's that good.

The menu is eclectic and varied, with a strong focus on seafood. One of us had a stunning crispy skin mutton snapper, tropical fried rice, sautéed and pickled vegetables with a wonderful curry sauce. One other of our party had the roasted organic baby chicken breast, confit chicken leg, potato wrapped truffle sausage, chestnut purée, root vegetables, and honey vinaigrette. Every bite of both dishes was a delight of flavours that worked amazingly well together.

The wine list is small but well-pared with the food offered, and Rebecca is the only licensed sommelier on the island.

The dessert menu was small but explodes with flavour ... the ginger caramel sponge, dolce de leche, chestnut, ginger pear ice cream was inspired and so delicious, and the chocolate dish was amazing.

The staff are friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and the owners/hosts are always present to chat and ensure everything is perfect. The ambience is really nice and this is the only place on Grand Bahama that offers a true food experience not to be missed if you love flavourful food, delightful staff and service, and that is presented wonderfully.

A very special place!

“Aboslutley outstanding”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2013

Management describes this as one of the best in Grand Bahamas. CORRECTION: One of the all time favorite of anywhere Ihave eaten.

World traveled seasoned business exec borderline Foodie in short mini vacation with family ate there 2x in one week. Lacaya is a quite place for relaxation and some of the food places in Port Lucaya adjacent to the Grand Lucayan are good. Flying fish was superb. Loved it the first nioth we were here had to do in 4 day slater before we left.

Taste were phenomenal from the appetizers (baked oysters and wakabi salad) to the lobster and risotto and the wahoo. Wine selection and service were great.
DO NOT MISS THIS GEM if you are in Freeport Lucaya area

Island hospitality at its best with a great chef and incredible staff.
Appropriately priced for a restaurant of this stature at about $50 pp with drinks.
Atypical in the islands with a flair that is international cuisine

i went there for my anniversary last year. Food was sooo amazing! If you want to try something different "THIS IS IT" flavors that melt in your mouth. I must say I was still a little hungry when I left but the experience is out of this world. Going to try and go again this year..

“Freeport dining at its best - Do not miss!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2013

We had come to Freeport for a couple of nights before our cruise. Our first night's dining was at our hotel restaurant and was very average so I had a look on TA to find Flying Fish as #1 in Freeport and we decided to go the second night and were we glad we did.

Firstly my husband ordered the guacamole-I never think this is a good idea because my guacamole is amazing. It was very good. Delicious and creamy. The chef/owner came out and spoke with us - he is very passionate about food quality and preparation.

We sat in the outside dining area and ordered off the bar food menu - I had the chefs version of the BLT which was delicious - hubby had the burger (very gourmet) he said it was the best he had ever eaten.

Service was excellent.

We liked it so much we will go back tomorrow for lunch before we catch our flight.
