“A Great Time”
Reviewed July 23, 2004

We just returned from a week at the Island Seas. July 16-23. We had a great time. Wow, reading some of the others comments in these postings truly amaze me. There are some truly hoity-toity people out there who cannot see the good in anything. You're on vacation, lighten up.

We arrived 2 hours early on a Friday and were immediately checked into our room. No problems.
The rooms are OK, not 5 star, but clean and very roomy. The maids cleaned every day we put the 'please clean room' sign up with no problems.

Yes, service is slow at the restaurant. But it is at ALL restaurants on the island. Have a drink. Relax. Enjoy it. The only problem we had with the restaurant at the resort is lack of diversity on the menu, it is the same menu each night, which gets kind of old.

We were asked to take the timeshare tour upon first arriving at the resort. I told them I would get back to them. We were told if you take the tour then you can use the free shuttle that they offer into Port Lucaya. They put a little sticky star on your room charge card to show to the bus driver to get on. The next day I told them there would be no way we would buy as we already own a timeshare and that I did not want to waste their time. She said "no problem" thank you for letting us know. We used the shuttle all week. Not too hard core there on the whole timeshare issue huh? Be honest and they will treat you with respect as well.

Everyone we met working at the resort was as friendly as could be. If you wanted to chat, they would chat. They always had kind words for our boys and were helpful with information.

Transportation is easy, skip the cabs. Take the free shuttle to Port Lucaya, cross the street to the public bus stop. Tell the driver where you need to go and for $1 per person you are good to go. From Port Lucaya to the International Bazaar or back to Island Seas (the free shuttle last picks up at 4:30 pm).

Food is no more expensive than in any resort area. Look for the deals. All of the restaurants in Port Lucaya have breakfast and lunch specials for $3.50 for breakfast to $6.00 for lunch. The resort has a happy hour 2 for 1 drinks from 4-6pm each day, drinks are $6 and everything is charged a 15% gratuity. Go to the duty free shops and buy your own booze and mix your own. There are vendors selling daquiris up and down the beach for $5 each- they are good! Try Zonk's Conch 'Hut" to the left of the resort on the beach. Take some time to talk to him and his local friends- it's an experience. Try his conch for sure- truly an island original.

We did the Paradise Cove snorkel tour and it was great. A very nice beach, clean environment and nice people running it. We took a Kayak Nature Tour to the Lucayan National Park and it was a great time as well.

A vacation is what you make of it. Make it fun. You're not in the high paced life of what we are used to in the U.S., sit back, relax.

Please e-mail with any questions you have. I would love to help.

We have friend that bought into this timeshare that wanted to sell her week to us, so we bought it from her at a good price.
The Good: The resort itself is nice. Its a U-shaped building facing the ocean, with a nice pool in the center. I wouldn't want to be in the building across the street though. The rooms were very nice as well. The restaurant is pretty good, but has a limited menu. The beach is ok, but a little rocky.
The Bad: The maid stole a few items of clothing from my wife. She must have liked the Gap. After quite a hassle they gave us some cash for them (we set the amount). If you have a choice and know you don't want to buy, DON'T do the timeshare presentation. It's high pressure and a waste of your time.
Another Bad: We didn't really care for Freeport and Grand Bahama. Step outside the resort and it's pushing third world. Even the supposed nice shopping and dining areas were dirty. To each his own though.

We just spent a terrible week at Island Seas. It started at check in. We were a time share exchange and we were to get a 2 bedroom ocean side condo. We checked in at 4pm (Checkin time is 4pm). But, no 2 bedrooms available ANYWHERE. They put us in 2 one bedroom units across the street. We had a handicapped person with us and this made it very difficult for her to get to the beach. They were completely insensitive to this problem. This ordeal took 2 hours to sort out!! The restaurant is expensive, outside, slow and very hot. The employees were rude, slow and disinterested in our needs. At check out 10am, we requested to stay 2 hours in exchange for the checkin delays and problems. They blamed us for the checkin problems because we didnt immediately accept their solution. They told us a late check out would be $50--talk about customer SERVICE The resort location is terrible--its a 20 minute ride to any tourst locations.

I have never been treated so rudely by hotel/resort employees.

Because of thge group of 10 we were with, we had a great time, but if the resort people were ncie it would have been wonderful.

Do not use Discovery Cruiseline! We went the first week of July 2004 and it was terrible! They nickel and dime you to death! It seemed that someone always had their hand out for a tip! And they are rude about it...to include fighting infront of customers. Oh yes...I was on vacation and had to watch the wait staff fight like little kids over a few bucks!

Now that I have vented...The island seas resort--was the crown of the trip. I would not do the timeshare deal however, the resort itself is great! It is away from town, lights and all the tourist stuff. Now it is not in Port Lucaya...but if I wanted to go to the mall I would of stayed home. The floors in the rooms are all ceramic tiles so the sand is always on your feet...kinda sucked however, just put a damp towel next to the bed before you get in bed just wipe your feet on it. The views were great and the size of the rooms, made apartments that I lived in college look like holes...they were huge! Drinks and food at the hotel were excessive/expensive!!! ($6 dollars for an 8oz.) You have a kitchen with electic...just bring a blender and make your own drinks to save a little $$. And cook your own food...food is real expensive there...gallon of milk is 6.50 and a gallon of gas is 3.54. So plan well...and stick to a budget.

Must see's and do's --Wednesday night go to Smith's Point (Tanio Beach) for the fish fry...it was great!!! There are plenty of places to eat on the beach...so try them all. Walk the beach and eat some conch fritters. Thursday night go to the International Bazar. Take alot of money...it was fun as long as you had alot of it. We rented a car from KSR...the vehicle was in prestine condition/I recommend them for price and quality. MUST SEE GOLD ROCK BEACH!!! (Take some bread to feed the fish along the way & Go at Low Tide!)

Do not eat at Pier One...it was over priced and you pay to watch the sharks get fed/not for service of any kind...and they add the tip to your ticket...despite the quality of the service...I was really upset.
If you have any questions/concerns...drop me an email.

WOW! The Island Seas Resort was wonderful! We spent 8 beautiful days there. I'm glad we listened to the good reviews and not the sour ones. By reading reviews and doing a little research, we weren't surprised by anything: $15/day per adult - paid in advance; expensive food - brought our own non-perishables and bought the rest at Winn Dixie the day we arrived; slow/poor service - we just kicked back and relaxed and didn't let it bother us; timeshare presentation - setup appointment and then cancelled the day before with no problems; taxi/bus - shared rental car with family traveling with us. Everyone was nice & friendly, staff & other guests, especially to our 3 children. I would recommend to everyone. Horseback riding was excellent from Pinetree Stables and the glassbottom boat tour was nice from the resort's Paradise Watersports. We're going again next year. This year we went with timeshare owners and we were given Gold Card status because we were their guests and our condo was right on the ocean. ENJOY!

I feel sorry for those who can't enjoy such a beautiful place... Our experience here was very good. We were the 1st people to stay in a brand new condo. The brand new Whirlpool Fridge didn't work. From Indiana I think? Look The Bahamas IS expensive, but if you rent a car and eat in your condo, it is no more than a Hawaiian Vacation. There are long uninhabitated forests. The beach at Lucayan Nat'l Park is magical. Count Basie Square at night is lively and quite entertaining. Try a Pina Colada in a real coconut at Rumrunner's. Very Tastey! We saw a 12 foot Spotted Leopard Ray in 4 feet of water at Paradise Cove snorkelling. Take lots of small bills and travelers checks with you. Things like chaise lounges and umbrella's cost a couple of dollars apiece to use. Tips are included so don't add on. There is a $15 a day room tax per person. But I don't think they charge for weekends, since we were charged 2 days less than we should of been. Say "No Thank You" to the timeshare presentation. We weren't bothered again. We loved it and would go back in a second....
