“Relaxing, clean and close to the ocean”
Reviewed March 27, 2004

We stayed in a one bedroom condo at Island Seas Resort during the third week of March 2004. It was quite clean. The kitchen was furnished with dishwasher, can opener, microwave, fridge, stove, utensils, dishes, etc. The room was beautiful, bright and spacious. We took a tour of the island on a shuttle bus. Michael was our driver. He was quite informative and also quite funny. He told us about the houses that were only partially built, and why they were in that uncompleted state, and about the laws in the Bahamas. No guns are allowed. If you kill someone, you will be executed by hanging, etc. He also took us to the Garden of the Groves where we saw peacocks, alligators, flora, etc.
Enjoyed his tour. The Sunset Cruise with hors de vors was a disappointment. It was supposed to be from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. We got back at the dock at 7:30 p.m. The food wasn't much to speak of, nor was the bar on the boat. The entertainment on the boat ended up being piped in music. So, don't waste your money on the Sunset Cruise. Back to the Island Seas Resort --- the Coconut Restaurant is outdoors and charming.
The waitstaff were pleasant, but service was generally slow. We enjoyed the food there. Our favorite waitresses were Eulamae and Jacqueline.
They were generally smiling and were ready to be of help. Andrew at the desk was also helpful as were several other of the staff. If we ever go back again to the Bahamas, we would definitely stay at the Island Seas Resort. However, we probably won't go back because of all the time spent going through Customs check points. Very, very time consuming and tiring. If you go, fly down rather than take the Discovery Cruise (which cruises every day from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.). Waters were extremely rough going down and about 80% of the travelers were seasick and throwing up everywhere. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

I was here the first week in March with three girlfriends (we are all 40 something). The Island Seas is located on a nice quiet beach. The grounds are beautifully maintained with a gorgous pool and a secluded hot tub. The rooms are nice but I don't think deserving of it's Gold Crown rating. We arrived a couple of hours early. There was no wait and our room was ready for immediate check-in. We requested extra towels which were brought up immediately and we continued to get extra towels each day. There is a free shuttle to Port Lucaya several times a day.
From there you take a city bus to the bizzare or other places on the island for $1.00. The resort is not on the bus route, but for $2.00ea will take you there and drop you off at the front gate. The busses do stop running at 8 or 9pm so then you do have to take a cab which was $14.00 for four of us. We really enjoyed happy hour for $3.00 drinks and meeting the other guest, all of who were having a great time. We ate appetizers at Coconuts which were ok, but we did hear others complain about the food. We had Zonk's special for $10.00 and it fed all four of us and was very good. The conch salad was also very good.
If you're willing to spend a little extra for a fabulous dinner, go to Willy Braodleaf at the Westin in Port Lucaya. On the weekend they have an all you can eat seafood buffet which include lobster tails, crab and shrimp. There is also prime rib and a chef to grill up steak, snapper, pork , lamb or veal. It was well worth the $43.00 per person which included non alcoholic beverages and gatuity. We had an excellent vacation enjoying the resort and the island. We found the island people to be very friendly. Also, regarding the tax, if you are a time share owner or go on trade you do not have to pay any room tax. Otherwise there is a $15.00 per person per night tax. This is a Bahamian tax and is charged at all hotels, not just Island seas.

My husband and I visited Island Seas in December of 2002. The condos themselves were wonderful. It was very nice, clean, and quiet. We had a wonderful ocean view. Be sure to ask for a room on the main part of the property, as they have built new condos across the street. These are NOT on the side of the street with the beach. The main part of the property contains the bar/restaurant, pool, beach, and hot tub. All of the above were nice, except for the restaurant. The food was overpriced and not very good. Do splurge for the breakfast buffet, as it was very nice. Be sure to pack non-perishables with you and then visit the Winn Dixie on the island and make meals in your room. You will save lots of money this way. If you don't plan on cooking, you will have to eat in the restaurant or catch a cab or the bus to town. There are no restaurants within walking distance. This condo property is on the "quiet" end of the island, which is WONDERFUL. There is a huge stretch of beach and the water is pretty shallow and perfectly see through. The pool complex is very nice and large. The jacuzzi was small and not very hot, but the beach makes up for it! We are returning for a second trip in August and are taking my parents along. This will be my 3rd trip to the Bahamas and 2nd trip to Island Seas. I am looking forward to it very much!

This hotel ruined our vacation. It's a five star so you would expect a lot more than what we got. Heads up there is no free shuttle, you have to take taxis everywhere and the prices always change, their really expensive and they rip you off. My sister and my mom got articles of clothing stolen. My jacket that was hung up in our room the entire time was vadalized. There's a gigantic hole in the sleeve, dirt and sutt all over it and the hotel did absolutely nothing about it. They implied that I had done it myself. It's a brand new expensive jacket and I don't even know if it can be fixed. They add on gratuity to everything and don't tell you. The service is extremely slow and rude. And the food is horrible! It took us forever to get in to our room the first night. We called for towels and after waiting two and a half hours, we left to get something to eat. On top of all of this 90% of all the other guests we met had the same kind of problems. And to finish it all off they charge you an additional fee of fifteen dollars a person per day, that totaled $315.00 extra dollars we had no idea about. I will never go to the Bahamas again and if you decide to definately don't go to the Island Seas Resort!

But we're not sure.(ha) We had to wait about an hour for our room to be ready. The frontdesk clerk also let us know that we'd be paying a $15 per person tax for each night we stayed at the resort. $150 added to the great price we got for the room.(Yippee!) Wasn't too crazy about that news. Anyway... The resort is beautiful. We were there the first week of March. The water was still pretty cool, but we still swam in the pool a little bit. The jacuzzi was just the right temperature. Not too hot and not too cold. The beach in front of the resort was well maintained, but we too saw lots of glass and garbage down the beach so watch where you're walking. Also watch out for the famous Conch man! Everyone kept saying in past reviews how great he was. We found him unfriendly and almost incoherent. He's got a huge beat-up wooden sign you can barely read that lists the many ways he supposedly serves Conch. We thought he was going to be this big charming guy from the Bahamas. All he did was stare at us and didn't speak a word to us. We finally ordered a couple of Bahama Mama drinks just to buy something from him. We asked how much and he sort of grunted at us. A nice woman at the stand told us the amount and then we quickly left, right after another woman tried to sell us some cheap looking necklaces from her stand nextdoor. Later in the week we signed up for a beach bonfire party. Got plenty of food, drinks, and music for our $100... but no bonfire! They decided it was too windy to light it.(Bummer!) Overall, The Island Seas Resort was pleasant and relaxing. Beautiful landscaping. Nice pool. You can play horseshoes and shuffleboard. Sounds kind of lame, but it was fun too. The bar is nice, but only at happy hour when the drinks are cheaper! I'm not paying $6.90 for one Bahama Mama!!! The guys behind the bar were all pretty nice and were fast at getting your drinks to you. We found it funny that the bartenders ring up your drink order on a computer touchscreen, then collect the money and put it in a ragged cardboard box behind the counter. Hightech comes to the Bahamas! By the way... they charge you a 15% gratuity on everything you purchase at the bar/restaurant. I didn't appreciate having to tip everyone automatically but most of them deserved it so no big deal, I guess. The frozen margaritas were good. That's all that mattered. Our room was nice, but I wouldn't call it 5 star quality. All tile floors and no carpeting ANYWHERE. We are glad we brought food with us. Here's one food price example at the local WinnDixie. A bag of chips with a preprinted price of 99 cents had a $2.70 cent sticker stuck on top of the 99 cent price. Just about everything was 2 to 3 times the price you'd pay here at home. Overall, we had a pretty nice time. I guess the good outweighed the bad, but we will probably just stick to Florida from now on. Less hassles and cheaper too!

Great resort, on the beach, no golf course, but has a great adult resort, some children, alittle out of the way, nice and quiet.
