“We learned to SLOW DOWN and RELAX!”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

We had a wonderful experience at Island Seas. The staff were friendly and helpful and attended to anything we needed. We loved our housekeeper Tanya and front desk Manager Timmy. Our timeshare room was very comfortable. Two bedrooms with AC and ceiling fans as well as a living area AC and ceiling fan. Beutiful view of the resort. Nice size kitchen with everything we needed. I recommend using the free shuttle service to go to Port Lucaya and the grocery store. The beach was clean, water clear and warm. The sand was healing as was the salt water. Coconuts was a great place to hang out to check emails and news. The restaurant food was great. The natives on the island are beautiful. When shopping be prepared to feel pushed into buying. The store owners or booth owners start out really high for things. SOme can be rude and pushy. We seemed to buy from those that just let us shop. We were able to see some of the effects from Hurricane Sandy near the airport. Overall the best vacation for me. Good sleep and great relaxed days.

Room Tip: Ask for second or third floor for additional safety and view.

Very quiet resort with a lovely beach. Staff are friendly and very social if you take the time to say hello. Great if you want to cook some of your own meals, lounge around, and go on daytime adventures elsewhere on the island. There's also a free shuttle to Port Lucaya running on a schedule. Wi-fi is spotty and works best near the bar/pool area, at nighttime I was able to get it from our room. Not a party resort by any means, but I suggest checking out a little restaurant down the beach if you're looking for a good meal and some cold beverages.

We just returned from Island Seas yesterday. The best way to rate this resort is pros and cons.
PROS: The resort property is very nice, clean and well maintained. The resort offers lots of amenities from ping pong, shuffle board, jungle gym for the kids, jet skies, kayaks, etc. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The beach is gorgeous. We had a one bedroom across the street on the marina side. I was not happy at first with the room, but after a day or so realized it was better than I thought. It was extremely quiet and the balcony was private. We were not on display for all to see. The rattan furniture in the room was very nice. We tipped the beach attendant daily for our towels and chairs. By the third day our chairs and towels were waiting for us at our favorite spot. We were given fresh bath towels and dish cloths daily, except on the day before we left. We made a call to the front desk and towels were delivered within a half an hour. I have traded several times with Interval International and have always had to pay a water usage fee any where from $50 to $65 when I checked out. The fee here - free. The hourly free shuttles to Port Lucaya are great. CONS: The blanket on the bed was very old, bally and grossed me out. The bed was not comfortable at all and the linens and bedspread were old. The two sliding glass doors had no screens, The two window sills were filled with black moldy gunk and two dead frogs. The light fixture on the back balcony was a light bulb hanging from a few wires covered with many dead bugs. Never did figure out how to turn it on and off and finally realized it must have been on a timer. Happy hour is from 4 to 6 PM daily, but only on certain drinks. Buy one get one free for $6.00. You have to ask the bartender which ones, they don't volunteer the information. The beach is beautiful and wonderful to walk on, but you have to be carefully where you walk. There is glass everywhere. The brown glass and green glass is easy to spot, but the clear glass are the dangerous ones. I am really surprised I never cut my foot. My last negative remark is that they do not take you to the grocery store until on Monday at 12:45 PM. We arrived on Saturday morining and waiting until Monday was inconvenient. Also 12:45 PM in the middle of the day ruined the beach day or signing up for island activities.

Expected romantic and modern, but found it more camp-like and run down CONS: staff had attitudes and carried billy-clubs, high pressure timeshare sales pitch, food was below average, drinks under sized, blankets had (moth?) holes, shower curtain hanging by threads, towel rack directly above toilet with no lid, no bathtub drain stopper, landfill grade balcony furniture, mattress lumpy/saggy, closet door frozen from caked dirt/sand. PROS: view, pool, beach, new kitchen w/ice maker.

Returned from Island Seas this past Saturday. Had two weeks booked but only used 10 days (my choice). As an owner with confirmed dates, my unit (Ocean front) should have been waiting for me. Timmy at the front desk did a wonderful job of getting me a unit in one of the two ocean front buildings. My friend (also an owner) was there earlier and was in a different building. The room was clean but missing a coffee pot which was supplied almost immediately. The inch long bug skittering across the floor disappeared into a door jam not to be seen again. If you are coming to Island Seas be sure to bring scouring pads for the pots and pans as well as condiments. Nothing is supplied. Yes, everything costs more in the Bahamas but when everything is imported to the island, what do you expect? Solomon's replaced City Market and is clean and as reasonable as any of the other big shopping markets (Butler's or Butler and Sands).

The beach is wonderful but with the increase in cruise ships docking at Freeport, Island Seas has added a hospitality suite. On days when the ships were in, the beach was wall to wall humanity and all the lounges were occupied - and not by owners. Owner's don't get preferential treatment re: lounge chairs and that kind of rankles me. I do understand that the resort is in the business to make money, but not an an owner's expense. In addition to cruise passengers, the quiet is broken by wave runners and a catamaran blaring music - all trying to get business. The photographer is particularly obnoxious and loud. Freeport is getting very commercialized although not as much as Nassau.

Do rent a car! I got one for $35/day (over a weeks' rental gets a cheaper rate). That allowed us unlimited trips to Port Lucaya, Gold Rock and other interesting venues. Do see the Garden of the Groves! Do visit the Rand Nature Centre! International Bazaar is just about closed which is very sad. Years ago it was a fun place.

At the far end of Island Seas next to the park is John and Michelle's open air take out place. For $15 we got two lobster tails (local type) plus rice and peas, cabbage and plantains. Outrageousely good food at a very fair price. It's take away so be prepared not to dine there.

Most of the restaurants offer "early bird" specials and Giovanni's in Port Lucaya is superb (and merits it's own review).

My only dissatisfactions with Island Seas are that maid service is sketchy at best, the sheets don't fit the beds properly and guests ignore the prohibition regarding glass and glass bottles on the beach, but then slobs are slobs whether on vacation or at home.

Room Tip: If you are an owner you should get the room type you paid for. If you are a guest, try to get an oc...

This hotel/ timeshare is definitely showing its age. The rooms are in bad shape, lights missing in hallways and electric continually going out. Thank goodness I brought a flashlight. This property needs SERIOUS upgrading! No maid service for 3days as although I was here for 2 weeks they had me checked out! Although the staff is friendly it doesn't compensate for the seediness & unprofessionalism of this place. It was always a guess if my key to my unit would open the door! Although it is rated as family oriented there were extremely obnoxious and loud guests that used unsuitable language with no regards to others. Security did not stop this noise nor did any member of the staff.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the bar are the quietest.

Just returned home from our 6th trip to Island Seas. Highly recommend for folks wanting quiet place on the beach where you can fix your own meals and entertain yourself. The accommodations are very comfortable and clean, the staff always helpful and courteous (thanks Betty and Karen), and the beach is gorgeous. Wi-fi at the bar and pool area. In addition to the restaurant (which had a really good spaghetti bar one night), on the beach just to the right of the resort (west) is a great little fish place called Michelles. We had grouper, conch, lobster and red snapper - ready to go again.
