“Excellent choice for a family vacation”
Reviewed December 26, 2003

My husband and I took our children, ages 8 and 5, to Viva Fortuna for Thanksgiving break. We had a fantastic time. The staff was curtious from the moment we arrived. We had a nice room with a view of the ocean, beach and a beautiful bouganvillia. The sand was pure white powder, the beach was large with plenty of beach chairs. While the resort may have reached capacity by Thanksgiving day, it never felt crowded and we did not have to wait for a drink or for meals. The food was good, with a decent variety. The all-inclusive deal makes it easy for families, the children were free to get drinks on their own, take their plates to the buffet and get their own food...no waiting to be served as in traditional restaurants. When the kids were finished eating, off they went to the ping-pong table or playground. The shows at night were suprisingly professional. There were plenty of activities throughout the day for everyone. We just loved to hang on the beach and swim. The guests were from all over the world, Australia, Argentinia, Spain, Italy, England... Since Wyndham took over, it seems like positive changes are being made. The place is a true diamond in the rough and seems to be getting more and more polished. There is a new hot tub, baby pool, refurbished rooms (we saw old beds being thrown out and new ones coming in) Our room was freshly remodeled and was just right. We truly enjoyed the experience as a family and would visit again. It is a great bargain for an easy, peaceful escape on a beautiful island.

Club Viva Fortuna was the greatest...I traveled as a party of 6 ages 17-22 and our stay was from Dec. 21, 2003 - Dec. 24, 2003 just before Xmas! The staff is made up of the friendliest most talented people from all over the world! The food was great, the drinks and bartenders were wonderful, and the overall atmosphere of the resort was a tropical paradise. There were organized events like beach volleyball, salsa lessons, basketball and soccer tournaments, bingo, and activities for the young ones also. The all inclusive deal simply includes all!!!There was so much to do and unfortunately we had only a little time to do it in. The other guests were all great too (we met people of all ages from England, Scotland, South Africa, France, Peru, Argentina, Canada, and of course many other places). The rooms were simple but still nice and welcoming, I can not wait to get back to Viva Fortuna because it is simply an AWESOME and Gorgeous plave to stay...oh yeah, the 20 person hot tub was a nice addition as well!

Let me start by saying that this was our first time at an all-inclusive resort. With that said, I went to Viva Fortuna for 4 days/3 nights with 5 other friends and had a great time.

When we arrived we were immediately greeted with welcome drinks at the bar. The rooms were pretty good as we did not expect much. Small insects existed, but what can you expect, it is a tropical resort. The only negative of the room was probably that the floors are tile, not carpet. This is probably because of all the sand, but we still would have preferred carpet.

The beach was beautiful. There were activities galore. The first day we were in a soccer tournament. The second a volleyball (which we won) and the third was basketball.

This is definitely a family oriented resort. We found it great because we are basically a group of college students, so the other teens provided for a lot to do.

The staff was excellent and very polite. Although we continually tipped, I found that they served the people who didn't tip just as well as they served us. Also the resort has a great deal of variety of people. We met people from Germany, Amsterdam, South Africa and Canada to name a few. This provided for great conversation as well.

Once again, we had a great time and are looking forward to going back.
I am sure it isn't the best place in the world, but it was a great time for us.

I had read some negative reviews prior to my wife, and adult kids going. Although worried we kept an open mind. Items we truely enjoyed:#1 The all you can eat buffets; these were a great way of trying tastes of another land before we indulged. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner we always found something we enjoyed. #2 The nightly shows were fantastic! The twenty to thirty year old cast were so energetic ,not only during the show, but in the day while they were conducting games and tournaments.#3 Free beach cruiser bikes gave us a chance to slow down our fast pace, yet tour while getting sun & burning calories! #4 Drinks, although gave you drinks in 8oz. cups, they had no problem filling up ours & others 32oz. cups! Our problems: #1 Mabel, Resort "hostess", who was noticeably upset with us for not going to her presentation and renting a car on our own(not giving her the credit). We would have originally gone with her but she drug her heels and was 45 minutes late to her own presentation. #2 We stayed in a two bedroom (A1110 & A1112) right off the beach, 2 toilets both with problems. and staff never fixed either one. 1 toilet kept running , while the other one, you had to stick yor hand in tank, pull up the ball just so it could flush. #3 We called the front desk 5 times and couldn't get toilet paper. I finally took some off the maids cart that was on the other side of the resort. #4 Little bugs inside room (luckily we took bug killer) #5 Went 1st week of Dec. Cooler than we anticipated, at times needed jacket in day .

This place was perfection. The resort and rooms were very nice. Each room had its own theme, kinda like they do in certain Vegas hotels. Everything looked new right down to the last detail. Great beach, super nightlife, variety of restaurants to choose from...prime rib was out of this world. Nice pool too. Huge place, well kept grounds.

Overall OK. Very old rooms need rehab - Beds are terrible, bathrooms need help. Soundproofing is desperately needed - unless you don't mind hearing your neighbors from both sides & up above. Food was all about pizza, burgers & hot dogs... geat if your on Spring Break or in HS.
Most of the Staff was very pleasant - except for one of the bartenders.
Spend your hard earned money elsewhere unless you get a deal that can't be passed up. If you go to this resort, you'll probably want to stay somewhere else next time...
